There are 3 mains reasons we did not go into Iran.

1.  There is no friendly country next to Iran that we could have used to build up a massive invasion force.  We would have had to rely on an amphibious assault and airborne troops.  The chances of success are much smaller that way.    Also, Iraq's troops were inferior to Iran's and the population of Iran would not have greeted us as liberators like a small part of those in Iraq did.   Iraq was the low hanging fruit.

2.  The geography of the two countries are very different.  Iraq is basically all desert, Iran has very large mountains that make moving a large force much harder.  Getting to Baghdad was easy, it sit at basically sea level.   Tehran sits about 4000 feet above sea level with limited ways of getting there.  They knew what they were doing when they built it there.  The fight to Tehran would have been 100 times harder than the one to Baghdad.

3.  Iran has been an ally of Russia for a long time, an invasion of Iran would be the same as invading Russia.  They would not have let it stand.

What I do not get is why people in this country think we have the right ot just go around invading anyone we want.  Is it as simple as the "might makes rights" philosophy?  Is the US just the 4th graders that hit the growth spurt first and is now 25 pounds bigger than everyone so he can push all the other kids around and  steal their lunch money?

I wonder if you were standing in line to join the military when you want to send them into Iran?

No, I was not and I resent your sneering comment, RG; do you believe everyone who supports military actions must join the armed forces?  This thread is not about me; it's about war strategies.  I feel sorry for those who believe the U.S. is always wrong but then....most liberals do.

IMO, those calculations are best left to the generals.

because we didn't go into Iraq to rid the place of Saddam.....    we went there to take stuff away...   but that would be a CT and I know you don't like to deal with those.

No, I really don't but, truthfully, I can't imagine what we took away from Iraq.  What do they have that we needed?

For one Gilgimesh's sarcophagus. Other kabbalistic things that bring spiritual things into this world and two friends escorted the body of a dead Nephilim.   Just a start.

:o  Even if there was a dead Nephalim...how on earth would one know it and why would whoever orchestrated such a thing let ordinary people know about it?  Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just sneak in and steal those things if that was what was wanted?  Rather than spending a couple of trillion dollars?  I always say 'if it doesn't make sense it probably didn't happen.'  I have to admit I've never heard that CT before and I thought I had heard them all.  I have a nephew who has all of them memorized, hundreds of them, and he spends hours every day online searching for more.  I need to ask him about that one.

I told you you wouldn't like it.  Doesn't change reality, but I'm not going to push it.  It'll all come out in the end.

Based on his profile and how he has been described publicly, what I am saying is absolutely correct. He is a potential threat and needs to be taken seriously.  It will save American lives to destroy his nuke development now when it is smaller, rather than letting his nuke development grow and we end up fighting a nuclear N. Korea.

That's not true.  We can destroy their air fields and anti-aircraft capabilities and prevent their air force from getting in the air.

The irony in this statement is amazing.  For close to a year you were the first to shout down anyone that tried to make similar assessment of our current president based on his profile and how he has been described publicly, but now you are willing to start a war off of what was wrong to do then.

Their Air force is a joke, it is made up of 30 year old soviet era fighters.  The concern are the 8000 plus heavy artillery pieces all aimed south of the DMZ as well as 3000 MLRSs, which are also pointing south of the DMZ.

As well as thousands of other assorted rockets and missiles spread around the country.

I didn't shout anyone down.   I said that Trump's profile didn't make him unfit to president.  If it did, then by the same standard, most, if not all of our elected officials are unfit for elected office.  And I pointed to the hypocrisy of not holding other elected officials to the same standard. It was unfair for Trump's critics to single Trump for special condemnation and hold him to a moral standard that they don't hold other elected officials too, especially the ones they themselves have voted for.   No one on the Left made moral standards a measure of fitness for president until Trump showed up.

Our military has expressed no concerns that they could not decimate N Korea's military pretty effectively and pretty quickly.  And given what we are capable send into N Korea, they would likely surrender fairly quickly.

Of course they have.   Even when I was in, and NK has more rockets and missiles since then, the expected number of casualties from a NK response was between 300,000 and 600,000.  There is no good, effective way to take out mobile pieces like NK has.  And if their leader is as crazy as you say then he will not worry about the counter attack on them and will just go into barrage mode and do even more damage.  They are old and their aiming is not the best, but they can hit a city, if not a certain building.  The damage done to everything between the DMZ and Seoul would be catastrophic for those that survive the attack.

But hey, we are safe over here sitting behind our computers, so who really cares about those living close to the DMZ, they should just move.
