Is communion symbolic or literal?

Here is something precious the Lord was gracious to reveal one time.  Communion is not just symbolic, but neither is it literal.....but actually kind of in between.....it is by proxy.  It's a prophetic act, much as baptism is a prophetic enactment of the old man dying and us being resurrected to new life by faith.  The principle is first the natural, then the spiritual.....when we do something in the natural realm, which seals it by faith in the spiritual realm as it were.  The Israelites of old would eat of the sacrifices (or the priests would eat it on their behalf), and by so doing the sacrifice was applied to them.  Just as they had to eat the Passover Lamb in order for that sacrifice to be applied to them and their household and escape the plague.  This is why we are to discern the Lord's body when we partake of the Lord's supper....because we are eating His body by proxy, so to speak, thus partaking of His sacrifice.  We are RE-membering His death until He comes.....re-enacting it so to speak, re-applying the sacrifice.  This is NOT transubstantiation, though it is something more real and powerful than a mere symbol.  It is His Body and Blood by proxy......the bread and wine standing in for His Body and Blood.  Having communion is a spiritual weapon, just as prayer is, and baptism.....as ordained and given by the Lord.

John 6:47-56

Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.

I am the bread of life.

Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died.

But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

1Corinthians 10:15-18

I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

Something else that is precious is what we can learn from Job who would sacrifice on behalf of His children in case of unknown sins committed by them........Likewise as believing parents whose children are therefore sanctified, and also when there is an unbelieving spouse who is sanctified by the believing spouse, we can likewise intercede as priests by eating the body and blood of Christ on their behalf.  How precious, and how powerful in the Spirit in this way to RE-mind the Father of His Son's sacrifice and by faith applying it our children and unbelieving spouses.  One Lamb for a household, glory to God, amen.

Wait.   did not the Babylonians , do something like that.   The drinking of any blood is mentioned as evil in the bible.

I know that early christains were falsely accused of drinking blood and even eating the flesh of babies .

But it was a lie of course .

The beauty of it is ,   Jesus actually tells them ,  my words are SPIRIT and they are LIFE .

and yes as believing parents we do pray intercession prayers for the youngsters.    In the end though they must come to Christ .

As you well know that too sister.     the partaking of the whole of the sacrifice of being crucified in Christ .   is the whole of who we serve .

we eat of his words , of his spirit we are made and joined as one with  Him.     that was a beauty what you said above about the communion.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
