1 John 2

1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk (peripateo) just as He walked.

[pre]peripateo:

1. to walk

a. to make one's way, progress; to make due use of opportunities

b. Hebrew for, to live

1. to regulate one's life

2. to conduct one's self

3. to pass one's life [/pre]

Hrm...He was a Jew....we are supposed to live like He would....

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Are we supposed to go and find twelve disciples ? Are we supposed to go riding into Jeruslahem on a donkey?

Are we supposed to claim to be Son of God? :b:

Those are very good questions, and something we should all seriously consider.

What does it mean to live like Christ?

It is obvious that there are things that Christ did that we cannot do, or that we do not need to do (dying for the sins of the world comes ot mind).

But what can we do to truly make our lives more Christlike?

Could you expound on that a bit. I'm not sure I get your point.

How would a Jew live?

What is it that makes the way a Jew lives distinctive from the way others live?

I've never really lived amongst the biblical jews. I can only go by what scripture tells me. Jesus said they didn't get it.

Hmmmm... How does one sort this out? :b:

You're right, most of the Jews didn't get it. But some did. His 12 disciples come to mind.

What was it that the Jews were doing that was wrong? In what way were they missing the point?

They were wrapping themselves in legalism, forgetting about a personal relationship with Yahweh. They strained out a gnat but swallowed a camel. They took the Law which had been handed down to them and ran with it, adding rule upon rule to it. They did not understand the purpose of the Law. It was not there to justify man, but to point out man's need for Yahweh. It wasn't about loving Yahweh enough to follow His commandments for them, it was about looking good in the community.

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for  ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith:  these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Does this mean that the Law (Torah) is bad? Did Christ ever tell anyone to stop obeying the Law? Did Christ obey the Law? How about Paul?

But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of Elohim is perfected in him.  By this we know that we are in Him.  He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:5-6

What is the Word of Elohim that we should keep?

"Blessed are those whose Lawless (anomia) deeds have been forgiven, and whose sin has been covered." Rom. 4:7

anomia

1. the condition of without law

a. because ignorant of it

b. because of violating it

2. contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness

If we are not to keep the Law, why must our Lawless deeds be forgiven?

Anyone who claims to have spoken to God, yet God's voice and words are so contradictory to what His word says, is nothing more than a nut not worthy of a debate. I wouldn't waste your time people.

Perhaps I missed something, but I don't see what is so off base about what he said.

This was where he lost me.

What if  Messias is already hear but I am restricted from seeing him because I am blinded by the image of him that I have built in my mind from other peoples perceptions.

And I'm still waiting for him to explain this.

With all due respect, I believe you are missing the point. To "walk as He(Jesus) walked" does not imply that we should imitate His "Jew-ness". The Bible makes very clear to us what it means to follow Jesus.

The Bible also makes it clear that we do not need to become Jewish before becoming Christian. Read Acts 15.

Peace,

Fiosh

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
