I've been doing a fair amount of research on Roman Law during the 1st century (AD as it used to be said, CE as it is said now in the secular era). Christian Era Before Christian Era Even if we insert "Current" for "Christian" they are still affirming that history was split in two by Jesus. BCE → JESUS ← CE

The Story of Civilization volume 111 pages 31 to 33 Heading is "The Beginnings of Roman Law" it will take me a bit of time to get it in a format to post. Talks about the law being a combination of tribal customs, royal edicts and priestly commands. Relates the 12 tables as being one of the strictest law systems ever.... give me some time. I don't know if I can turn it into text and post it, may have to just take a picture and post jpeg's..
