I was just curious if anyone knows. As I understand it they feed steroids to the cows to make them grow bigger faster. If this is indeed the reason children these days are developing faster then couldnt it also be a major reason for obesity? Just thought I would throw that out there. Thats part of why I avoid red meat. I understand that that we have a place localy that I can buy meats that are GRAIN fed. I will have to see what thats like. I'll bet it tastes......NATURAL.

Actually it's not just red meat that is having that problem. Even down to the chickens we eat it's not all natural as they claim. Why do you think KFC is no longer called Kentucky Fried Chicken. Chickens nowadays are mass produced just like most other cattle and we can see the results of that in a lot of our youths today. But mostly because people don't know when to say I've had enough. Temperance is an important aspect of eating that people really don't adhere to.

From what I understand bread and breaded products (carbohydrates) cause weight gain more than red meat. Red meat is full of protien and iron.

I used to be a veggie when i was at school it was the hype then - the new craze - but my doctors told me to go back on meats as people dont realise how many vitamins etc u are missing out on due to switching to vegetarian meals!

Yes, ok now you have things like Tofu, Soya, etc but to me thats just process stuff (and if im honest taste just as bad as meat does)

Has anyone got any ideas as to what i can use instead of meat for extra vitamins n minerals etc for a balanced diet??

I love my fruit n veg but i cant stand fish!! Not even tuna (canned fish) i can just about stand crabsticks and prawns!

I only eat meat as im told too and thats what my mom puts in front of me at meal times

Would help if i had some help!

Hi Curvy,

You're going to have your sceptics about being a vegetarian from non-vegetarians and vice versa. I know of doctors who have said the complete opposite of what your doctor has state about the lack of vitamins you get from a vegetarian diet. The problem some vegetarians have is that they stick to those meat substitutes and they end up just as bad as they were if they had remained a meateater. It's supposed to be like the patch is to the smoker in my opinion. The problem is that many vegetarians stay on that patch the rest of their lives. If you think about it, we eat meat to get the nutrients that the animal received from eating vegetables and grains while they were alive. Now judging from what i said you could just as well get your vitamins from your meat as you could from the source where they got their vitamins........fruits, veggies, and grains.(legumes too). Some of the biggest mammals in the world are vegetarians. (not to say you want to be an elephant  ) but they're pretty healthy and they eat a lot and live pretty long. Here's a link that can help a little with the vitamins you might need in different kinds of foods.

MY VITAMINS

Hope this helps a little.

Here's an extra set of information for those curious about reducing risks for cancers:

Foods to Help Prevent Breast Cancer

Recent research suggests that adding these foods to your diet could significantly lower your risk of breast cancer.

#1 Yellow orange vegetables -- Eating foods high in beta- carotene has been linked in many studies to lower rates of breast cancer. Tip: Baby carrots beta-carotene is more absorbable then regular carrots (MultiWellness)

#2 Cruciferous vegetables-- radish, broccoli, cauliflower, rutabaga, cabbage, turnips, turnip greens, contain indole -3-carbinol, which lowers women's levels of a type of estrogen that may promote breast cancer.(16-hydroxy- estradiol and 16-hydroxy-estrone). Tip: Look for BroccoSprouts, a brand of broccoli sprouts with megalevels of SGS, a compound that fights mammary tumors in mice. (Super Foods Wellness)

#3 Eat tomatoes, including cooked, dried, soups, juice and sauces, to fill up on a compound called lycopene. Diets high in lycopene are linked to lower rates of breast and prostate cancer.

#4 Give up the red wine and eat grapes instead. More than one alcoholic beverage a day increases your risk of breast cancer. But concord grapes have cancer-fighting antioxidant power.

#5 Eat omega-3 rich nuts and seeds (walnut, pumpkin, flax). Research suggests that women with higher tissue levels of omega-3s have lower rates of breast cancer.

#6 Women whose diets are higher in vitamin D have less breast cancer. To ensure that you get the recommended level, add Vitamin D to a healthy diet, advise many experts, especially in climates or lifestyles with out year round sun (20 minutes a day).

#7 Eat a small bowel of dark cherries, blueberries, or black raspberries.

#8 Compounds called limonoids, found in the peel and white membrane of oranges, inhibit breast cancer in test tubes. Eat whole fruit oranges and tangerines.

#9 Avoid refined grains and choose whole grains instead. At least one study has shown that women who ate the most refined grains had more breast cancer. Another study showed women who ate one serving a day of a cereal high in wheat bran lowered their risk factors.

#10 Cut high trans fats out of your diet. High trans fats may increase the risk of breast cancer. Margarine, most french fries, both frozen and fast-food, and many processed and fried foods made with hydrogenated fats are a top trans fat source. If you use margarine, use a trans-fat free brand.

#11 Instead of commercial "olive oil" dressings - usually made with a mixture of oils -- make your own easy dressing with half olive oil, half lemon juice. Mediterranean women who eat olive oil have low rates of breast cancer, studies show.

#12 Garlic kills breast cancer cells in the test tube and maybe in you. But if you're going to cook garlic, always peel and chop, then let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes before you heat. Heating right away doesn't allow time for the cancer-fighting compounds to develop.

#13 Eat a serving of dark leafy vegetable (spinach, kale, swiss chard, beet greens, etc.) at least twice a week .

#14 Cut out the meat from diet.

#15 Use flax seed. It has 75 times more lignin precursors, compounds that inhibit mammary tumors in animals. Use flax seed oil for your homemade salad dressings (DO NOT heat flax seed oil)

# 16 Add soy. Soy's isoflavinoids work as weak estrogen

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
