Wanna be a fashion guru

So I work at a clothing store for now to bring in extra in come. It's also suppose to be one of those "high fashion" stores, though I think the stuff is over rated and over priced. Anyway...

I've been working there a while and I wondered what woul dhappen if I put certain types of clothing on the manikin that just, were not fashionable at all. So I put a black polo on it (with a colar) and the collar flipped up, and a brown button up (with a collar) over it, the collar down. IT's been on there for about two weeks, and over the past few days guys have been walking in with that certain style, almost exact. I also, on another manikin, put a suit jacket inside out with the tie wrapped around the jacket....lo and behold someone today walked in with a style just like that.

People are so easy to lead...

Exactly. I've never been one on following trends, that's why I find it hilarious. We have people look at pictures or manikins and go, "I have to have that outfit, right there". It's funny, but absolutely sad at the same time.

Thats actually sad. I fell into that trap as a teen. I never dressed like a mannequin but I did watch all my "friends" and imitate them. There is a guy at work who refuses to brush his hair when he gets up in the morning. I often offer him my comb and he says his hair is the style. Its quite sad. The folks adopting the outfit you put on a mannequin, no matter how ridiculous, lack any sense of individuality or good taste for that matter. I would like to here of other hilarious outfits you have put on a mannequin that people have tried out so naively.

Actually, Dannyboy, I think that is the style! My sons spend a lot of time combing and gelling to get that "I didn't comb" look. LOL!

Being one who wore gray parachute pants and black and white checkered tennies in the eighties, I can't comment! LOL Actually, I got hand-me-downs and was never worried about being in "fashion". The parachute pants were my mother's proof that I should never be allowed to buy clothes on my own!

Today I like to dress simply. Wranglers, or khakis, and a button-down shirt and I pretty much blend in with the wallpaper!

I went to buy tennis shoes awhile ago but didn't get any. Have you seen the "styles"? Whatever happened to just plain sneakers? I don't want to be a sleek, sports star, a rap artist, an astronaut, a teenager or a fashion model! What's an average, plain guy to do?

My idea of style is $30 sneakers I bought from Sam's Club or BJ's, blue jeans, and either a t-shirt or polo-type of shirt. Total cost: maybe $50.

On the occasion when I have to, I'll wear a black jacket and trousers, with a white shirt and a decent tie and dress shoes.

For work it's BDU's when it military time and green BDU style pants and a gray polo shirt with black boots for my real job.

I laugh when I see some of the wacky stuff people wear and spend hundreds of dollars to "be in style."
