Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

The writer of Hebrews wanted the Hebrews to come to perfection (Hebrews 6:1). Perfection was not in the Levitical priesthood (Hebrews 7:11), nor in the sacrifices of the law; the law was only a shadow.

10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

The sacrifices of the law under the first covenant were supplanted by the sacrifice of Christ for the new testament (Hebrews 7:18-19).

10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Christ's sacrifice was for all sin for ever.

Christ by his once for all sacrifice, perfected the believing Hebrews.

10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

The Hebrews had the past witness of the Holy Ghost , as seen in Hebrews 2:4, by signs (Mark 16:20)and gifts of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4).

10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

The Holy Ghost witnessed in Jeremiah 31:31-34 that he would make a new covenant with the house of Israel and Judah which was restated to the Hebrews in verses 15 through 17 above.

The writer of Hebrews wrote of the new covenant because he was writing to the believing remnant of Israel, who believed the preaching of Christ and the twelve apostles. The remnant believed Christ was Messiah, the Son of God (John 20:31), and the gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 4:23), wherein they would reign with Christ in the Davidic earthly kingdom (Revelation 20:4 Exodus 19:5-6 Daniel 7:18 Daniel 7:27). In the regeneration, the restoration of Israel in the kingdom, Christ will sit on the throne of David in Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:1-3 2 Samuel 7:16 Luke 1:32-33 Acts 2:30), and the twelve will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel (Matthew 19:28 Revelation 21:12).

10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

It was by the sacrifice of Christ, the satisfactory remission of all sin, that God could be just in forgiving the transgressions of Israel under the first covenant (Romans 3:25) that they might receive the promise of inheritance under the new covenant (Hebrews 9:15 Hebrews 6:12).

10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

Entering the holiest of the temple, and high priests, are terms directed to a Hebrew audience, thereby designating this epistle as being for the remnant of Israel.

10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Once again, the language here lends to support the premise that this book is for Israel. Drawing near to God was a provision for Israel under covenant (Zechariah 1:3 Malachi 3:7 James 4:8 Hebrews 7:19). The Hebrews were to draw near in assurance of faith and have their hearts sprinkled (Hebrews 9:14 1 Peter 1:2), and their bodies washed (Ezekiel 36:25 Numbers 19:19 1 Peter 3:21).

10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Under the law there was no sacrifice for deliberate sin, and for the Hebrews, there is no sacrifice that will make provision for it to allow entrance into the kingdom on earth.

10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

The only ones that could count the blood of the covenant unholy, would be unbelieving Israel, as only Israel was given covenants (Romans 9:4).

10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

That Israel is in view, is further upheld by being those people judged by the Lord (Deuteronomy 32:36 Psalm 50:4 Psalm 135:14).

10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Israel had to exhibit patience and do the will of God in order to enter the kingdom (Hebrews 12:1 Romans 2:7 Matthew 7:21).

10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

The Lord Jesus will come to establish the kingdom promised the Israel of God (1 Kings 9:5 James 2:5). Believing Israel will receive salvation at the coming of the Lord (Acts 3:19 Jeremiah 30:7 Matthew 10:22).

Israel had to remain steadfast (Psalm 78:37 Hebrews 3:14 1 Peter 5:9), and faithful (Matthew 25:21 Luke 16:12 Revelation 2:10), to enter into that kingdom on earth and be given authority (Luke 19:17).

Israel had to refrain from forsaking the confidence of their profession of faith to receive the full reward awaiting at the coming of Christ (1 Peter 1:13), to be partakers of his glory (1 Peter 5:1) in the kingdom. To enter the kingdom Israel had to endure to the end (Matthew 24:13 Hebrews 3:14 Hebrews 6:11).

My perspective is a bit different, I think.

Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
The law, the blood of the sacrifices, the continual offerings of the same,  just could never completely rid us of the guilt of sin and enact (wrong word) the change it was supposed to provoke in us,  as God had wanted it to.  With all the instructions and physical endeavors given and done, we remained "deaf and blind" to the love of God it was showing us.

Hebrews 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

Hebrews 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
Moving past that sin, even when a change had come about and repentance had been made was impossible.   The sin was carried within the memory at least till the day it was atoned for,  hampering the "moving towards perfection" needed to stand before God.

Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when He cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

Hebrews 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
There was no "direct conversation", one on one with the Lord.  There was a priest, a go-between.  The system didn't allow the kind of relationship God is looking for or even the child of God was looking for.  Death was always to be feared should it come at an inopportune time.

Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
But God has a plan.  God is going to make sure there is a perfect example set forth of what makes Him happy.  Think about it.  God is a consuming fire.  If you do not rid yourself of as much as can't stand before God, God will.  He has no choice.  He is just.  All treated the same.  But the man who has spent his life making Gods Ways his own, will merely be singed as the man who hasn't will walk away pretty crispy.

Hebrews 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
The whole ceremonial laws and ordinances and sacrifices even when done perfectly did not give way to a relationship satisfying to either side.  God wanted love, man needed some help and comfort.

Hebrews 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
Had the people with love and gratitude used the law to conform themselves to Gods Way, to learn to walk righteous, the law would have worked.  But the sins of the flesh were too hard to overcome on their own.  We needed help.

Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
So Christ became The Lamb sacrificed.  The blood of infinite value, the only blood that could ever allow a repentant flesh man to walk anew, SURE of Gods forgiveness.

Hebrews 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
That WORK, that job done by Christ, that sacrifice FREELY AND OF HIS FREEWILL done by Christ could never be surpassed. Not by anything or anyone anywhere at anytime.   There exists nothing that could ever render it better, or more sufficient, or done more out of love.  Christ is our first fruit, our best the Lamb without spot or blemish that we go get, that we bring to our knees, to plead our case and ask forgiveness of going off the narrow path and we talk to God through our High Priest with our circumcised heart and mind through Christ.  Christ is our ceremony, our ritural, our example, the one who showed us what our faith looks like, how it looks when it is done perfectly as He perfected our faith getting rid of all the parts that didn't work and brought about such an EASY way to come and talk to God.  Blood being spilled for our sins, never again.

Hebrews 10:13 From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool.

Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
As only He could accomplish.

Hebrews 10:15 Whereof the Holy Spirit also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Hebrews 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
We no longer have the heavy yoke our fathers had.  We have none of the physical rituals, no man/priest to intercede for us, no perfect animal to kill.  We have faith in the Work of Christ.  Our heart and our mind or rather our love of God and his ways lead us to our knees and repentance.

Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Our faith in the infinite value of the blood and work of Christ brings us to a place of the POSITIVE assurance of forgiveness.

Hebrews 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
We know that "death" was conquered for us.  We are freed from the fear of death, of having to be "perfect" ourselves upon the death of our flesh.  Our flesh may have a sin, "a broke one broke them all sin" but it does not determine that we will be separated from God because we did not "perform" that last ritual/ceremony of animal sacrifice, we can simply "feel" and think or speak it.  HIS YOKE is oh so very light.  His yoke is oh so very forgiving.  His yoke is oh so very perfect.

Hebrews 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
No more do we "depend" on a time and place and priest.  We have our Lord Christ Jesus, who sets us free to quickly and easily upon our repentance to do what the law could never do, bring about total forgiveness through His love.

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
The old covenant could never provide this way.  The old covenant made it possible to  "follow the law perfectly, physically" and receive what the heart and mind didn't really deserve.

Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Christ was faithful to the work he was sent to do.  Christ is faithful to the promises he makes.

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Once you have learned the truth, YOU MUST REMAIN FAITHFUL TOO.  AND IF YOU DO, SO DOES HE, but there are many "ifs".  Yes, this goes against some dearly held beliefs, but not against any "doctrines" that were given by Christ or the Apostles or the Prophets OR anyone who scribed for God.  Because EVEN IF you had at one time in your life "believed" but then you turned your back and went the way of the world.....

Hebrews 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Hebrews 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
IF YOU have come to know the love of God, the work of Christ, the payment for sin paid, and you still decide to "party like there's no tomorrow", its not like just "breaking the law" anymore, it's more like breaking Gods heart.  God will not be mocked.  Its simple.  Its common sense.  And not one who Jesus came for will be lost because not one He has come for will ever "party like there's no tomorrow".  But that's a whole other story.

Hebrews 10:30 For we know Him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
To every man death and judgment.  (except for those who overcome and endure to the end)

Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Hebrews 10:32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
Many false teachers will come and with all deceivableness, try to sway you from the eternal life God is offering.

Hebrews 10:33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.
Knowledge is to increase in these end times.  The mysteries that have been hidden down through the years are being made known to this end generation.  The mystery of iniquity has been hard at work.  The synagogue of Satan is diligent in their work.  Never forget,

Jeremiah 35:2 Go unto the house of the RECHABITES, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.
(KENITES - SONS OF CAIN)

Jeremiah 35:3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

Jeremiah 35:4 And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:

Jeremiah 35:5 And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

Jeremiah 35:6 But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

Jeremiah 35:7 Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.

Jeremiah 35:8 Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;

Jeremiah 35:9 Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

Jeremiah 35:10 But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

Jeremiah 35:11 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 35:12 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

Jeremiah 35:13 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.

Jeremiah 35:14 The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.

Jeremiah 35:15 I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

Jeremiah 35:16 Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:

Jeremiah 35:17 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

Jeremiah 35:18 And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:

Jeremiah 35:19 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.

Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

Malachi 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their FATHERS (THATS PLURAL), lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Hebrews 10:34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Hebrews 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
Judgment for some will be a most wonderful day indeed!!!!!

Hebrews 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
When is it you MIGHT RECEIVE THE PROMISE??  AFTER YE HAVE DONE THE WILL OF GOD.

Hebrews 10:37 For yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but IF ANY MAN DRAW BACK, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Why were we created?  for His pleasure.

Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Do some draw back all the way unto perdition???  Yes.  Where we once saw a single group of believers, we see it split off into 2.  At least this is how I see it.

Yes, I believe it is written to the Hebrews, not the gentiles and whomsoever would for Gods Purpose and plan.

Even if the book of Hebrews was narrowly directed to the Jews, like all scripture, it is profitable. It is also written in some of the most poetic Greek of the NT. There is a beautiful sense of balance, point and counterpoint, each idea returning to and then launching off of the former, climaxing with the defining of Mt. Zion, the warning to those who refuse, and that wonderful and awful truth: our God is a consuming fire.

All scripture is profitable

Perhaps your very long OP is missing the point of your topic ?  would there not be a simpler way of reaching the answer effective  to us today ? How do people 'read the Will of God' that can get us into His Kingdom ?  The letters of 1Joh  contain a few simple answers that refer to the 'keeping of the Commandments' ...and Yashua Himself being our living example. What is your opinion of that approach ?

1 John is not written to the church, the body of Christ, but to the believing remnant of Israel.

Yes, from that standpoint of being for the remnant, how to enter the kingdom on earth, by doing his will.

1 John was written to the church way after Peter and Cornelius and Saul's conversion and ministry to Jews and gentiles.

Thus it is written to the body of Christ as described by Paul. Way after the James address in Jerusalem that acknowledged Yeshua came to the whole world and not just the Israelis.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
