There's a little known band I really like made up the Scottish duo the Sutherland Brothers and the remains of the rock band Quiver.

Oh that's sounds good and I'll look for them. Debp  just PM'd me and said America's Got Talent is on tonight. If I can get them on our cable, that's something to check tomorrow night. Have you ever heard of the Scottish group, Del Amitri? Look for sort of country blues rock song they did called, Kiss This Thing Goodbye. There's some pretty good dobro guitar and blues harmonica on this tune.

Has anyone mentioned Electric Light Orchestra (Jeff Lynne) and Robert Palmer?  Jeff also played with George Harrison in the Travelling Wilburys and numerous others.

My wife and I really liked Robert Palmer's  body of work.  A great deal of his music, especially his voice, was extremely pleasant to listen to.  What he wrote and what he chose to sing written by others showed a great deal of intelligence and his musical range.  I thought of him as the British version of Harry Nilsson.

Oh, yeah! All these guys too! Terrific! They're all great!

And here's a nice Traveling Wilbury's pic.

I was quite fond of George Harrison and Ringo Starr solo careers after they left the Beetles.  I'm not a Beetles fan.

Although Paul and John did surround themselves with good musicians to back up their solo LPs, George and Ringo took the top name rockers for the work they released during the solo Beatle years. George started out with countless on his first, All Things Must Pass triple album set. Ringo and his All Starr Band, interchanges every few tours. Todd Rundgren, Joe Walsh, many others have appeared with Ringo Starr.

P.S. Everyone knows I'm a Beatles fan!

Ringo Starr solo careers after they left the Beetles.

Although each of The Beatles took snipes at one another following the breakup when they released solo LPs and singles, eventually they all managed to reestablish a sense of endearing bond in friendships. Things were still at bit tense in 1973, but lovable Ringo managed to gather up the lads for a solo Starr LP. Simply titled, Ringo. Each of them worked personally with Ringo to compile some songs and a couple of old covers for Richard Starkey's album. George Harrison and John Lennon probably helped worked on the project the most. One by one, they came into the studio and worked separately from each other. One nice thing was they all remained friends with their beloved drummer.

Note* I have this both on vinyl and CD. Nice! :P

Following after the breakup of The Beatles, each member already had solo LPs ready for release. Ringo always loved country and western and came to Tennessee to perform with session players while recording there. George had a fully capable sound studio in his monastery mansion Friar Park, outside the suburbs of London. He had countless top guest musicians to assist with the triple LP set he'd been working on.

John invited Ringo and fellow Beatles chum, Klaus Voormann, for help on his, while Paul retreated to his farm in  Scotland with a borrowed 4 track recorder from Abbey Road Studios. This was totally a McCartney project by the same title. No one was invited and Paul did all the vocals and instruments, including drums. A great effort, but Macca was no percussionist by any means. Nice try, Sir Paul. Still a good LP with hits.

Among all the solo Beatles firsts, George takes a bow on this masterpiece. This is truly an excellent one filled with fantastic and imaginative songs. Some being backlogged to Harrison's membership with the group. All Things Must Pass, had guest musicians such as, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Klaus Voormann, Gary Wright, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, members of Badfinger, players from Delaney and Bonnie, horn session men, Bobby Keys and Jim Price, etc., a great choral group of backup singers, and the sweet sounds of pedal steel guitarist, Pete (Sneaky) Drake. Phil Spector produced the finished project and added his "Wall of Sound" to it. It was slick and polished but slightly trebley on the high end of the graphic equalizer. In 2001, George remastered it with some assistance and added a few more tracks. Excellent piece of work, George!

How about the great Greg Lake, one of the founding members of King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer.  Besides excellent vocal range, he also added bass and guitars to his contributions to progressive rock.  He wrote Oh Lucky Man  when he was 12 years old.

I saw Emerson, Lake & Palmer in concert. What a show! There were two large stacks of Marshall amps built and enclosed on both sides of the stage to resemble huge stereo speakers. On top were two massive cannons. This was a performance to behold and the loudest in decibels I've ever attended. No distortion at all. Just pure power in sound.

Fog machines flooded the stage and blue back lights illuminated the set up. The guys hit the entrance and a grand piano rose up from a trap door lift in the center of the arrangement. They started with the opening lines to Karn Evil 9, "Welcome back, my friends to the show that never ends - we're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside."

And the crowd took to their feet in the entire arena. They had this one and the audience loved it. Keith Emerson had a large synthesizer with patch cord input/outputs and blinking colored LEDs flashing intermittently. He took to it and an explosion from behind the unit raised the panel two feet higher from the keyboard. Truly impressive!

Carl Palmer's set of percussion instruments were a array of standard and exotic drum kits and cymbals surrounding a semi-circle. Very beautiful set. Behind him was a massage Chinese brass gong. ELP did all their cherished songs. Lucky Man, Fanfare For The Common Man, Tarkus, Still, You Turn Me On, Knife-Edge, From The Beginning, and more.

Emerson, Lake, and Palmer without a doubt put on the most impressive stage show and performance of the entire decade of Seventies. They were a stupendous power trio not to be reckoned with.

P.S. Did the cannons fire? Yeah, they did. At the culmination of The Barbarian, each one flashed successively and then in an explosion with plumes of colored smoke. They were pretty loud too!

  1. Welcome back, my friends
To the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend
    Come inside! Come inside

    There behind a glass
Stands a real blade of grass
    Be careful as you pass
    Move along! Move along

Come inside, the show's about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you'll get your money's worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell, or Earth

You've got to see the show, it's a dynamo
You've got to see the show, it's rock and roll

    Right before your eyes
We'll pull laughter from the skies
And he laughs until he cries
Then he dies, then he dies

You've got to see the show, it's a dynamo
You've got to see the show, it's rock and roll

    Soon the Gypsy Queen
    In a glaze of Vaseline
    Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene
    Next upon the stand
Will you please extend a hand
    To Alexander's Ragtime Band
    Dixieland, Dixieland

Roll up! Roll up! Roll up
    See the show

    Performing on a stool
We've a sight to make you drool
    Seven virgins and a mule
Keep it cool. Keep it cool
We would like it to be known
    The exhibits that were shown
    Were exclusively our own
All our own. All our own

    Come and see the show
    Come and see the show
    Come and see the show
    See the show

    See the show

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
