Freddie and the Dreamers was yet another one-hit-wonder (well, two actually) in the United States. When The British Invasion really took to our American tastes in music we openly embraced the culture and English Way, so to speak. Freddie and the Dreamers had these two hits and made quite a splash here, although briefly rippling the across the pond. Fred and the band had some catchy songs as most of them did. They were, I'm Telling You Now, and his attempted dance craze, Do the Freddie. It looked like doing jumping jacks in place, basically. Sorry, I can't post the YouTube video here, you'll have to find it. Don't worry, it's easy. The dance never did quite catch on. It was rather amusing watching Freddie. He was quite a character.

  1. I'm Telling You Now

    I'm telling you now
    I'm telling you right away
I'll be staying for many a day
I'm in love with you now

    I'm telling you now
I'll say what you wanna hear
I'll be telling you for many a year
I'm in love with you now

    Do you think I'm foolin'
When I say "I love you"?
    I love you
    Maybe you'll believe me
When I'm finally through, through, through, through

    I'm telling you now
I know it's been said before
Say you love me and I will be sure
I'm in love with you now

    I'm telling you now
    I'm telling you right away
I'll be staying for many a day
I'm in love with you now

    Do you think I'm foolin'
When I say "I love you"?
    I love you
    Maybe you'll believe me
When I'm finally through, through, through, through

    I'm telling you now
I know it's been said before
Say you love me and I will be sure
I'm in love with you now
I'm in love with you now
    I'm telling you now

  1. Do the Freddie

Hear the happy feet dancing to the beat of the Freddie (Freddie)
Put a guy in front make a line in back then you're ready (ready)

    [Chorus:]
Kick your feet up swing your arms up too
Move your head both ways like you see me do
Then jump three feet to the swinging beat
Do the Freddie (Freddie), Do the Freddie (Freddie)

It's an easy dance give yourself a chance
    Dance the Freddie (Freddie)
It's the thing to do kids will envy you
    So do the Freddie (Freddie)

    [Chorus]

    Wow!

    [Chorus]

Dance the Freddie, Dance the Freddie

The British band The Status Quo / Status Quo started in 1967 with a psychedelic rock sound.  Pictures of Matchstick Men was quite popular in the UK and USA.  I know I had an album of theirs but I don't remember playing it much.

Ah! Yeah, it was a big hit here in the genre of psychedelia. I always loved the sound effects of what is known as a "phase shifter" or "envelope follower". It's a special studio trick that has been used in numerous songs in and out of this sort of style. The Small Faces, which we have yet to discuss also used it in, Itchycoo Park. Another solid hit song.

I am curious as to what the style of sound this group also had besides the hit song. Quite a few bands did what was referred to as "fillers" for making up the albums back in the 1960's. Even The Mamas and the Papas, from the US did this. I've got a compilation of all the Dunhill records they did in their entirety. This was a four LP to CD set. all the songs they did were included, fillers as well.

They did have one final contractual album to record and release after the breakup, but weren't really happy about it. The executives sent out a 250K fine against each member, so they complied with a final one titled, People Like Us. It was a bomb, even they admitted it. This one isn't included in the set. They agreed to work on it together, but put little effort to quality as was in their previous recordings.

Did anyone mention Eric Burdon and / or the Animals?  He was part of the British Invasion.  His deep voice was very distinctive in songs like House of the Rising Sun.

Yes, indeed.

Eric Burdon and the Animals were straight R & B. Raw and talented. House Of The Rising Sun, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, It's My Life, and Don't Bring Me Down, were big hits for the band. Eric had a large following of fandom. Later on he had some others like, When I Was Young, Monterey, and Sky Pilot. Great stuff.

But I forgot to mention one more great hit, San Franciscan Nights.

  1. San Franciscan Nights

    (Spoken)

This following program is dedicated to the city
    And people of San Francisco
Who may not know it but they are beautiful
    And so is their city
This is a very personal song
So if the viewer cannot understand it
Particularly those of you who are European residents
    Save up all your bread
And fly Trans-Love airways to San Francisco U.S.A.
Then maybe you'll understand the song
    It will be worth it
If not for the sake of this song
But for the sake of your own peace of mind

    (Song)

    Strobe lights beam creates dreams
    Walls move, minds do too
On a warm San Franciscan night
Old child, young child, feel alright
On a warm San Franciscan night
    Angels sing leather wings
Jeans of blue Harley Davidsons too
On a warm San Franciscan night
Old angel, young angel, feel alright
On a warm San Franciscan night

    I wasn't born there
    Perhaps I'll die there
There's no place left to go
    San Francisco

Cop's face is filled with hate
Heavens above, he's on a street called love
    When will they ever learn?
Old cop, young cop, feel alright
On a warm San Franciscan night

    The children are cool
    They don't raise fools
    It's an american dream
    Includes Indians too

How about Herman's Hermits?  'Mrs. Brown you've Got a Lovely Daughter'  and   'I'm Henry The 8th I Am'.  Henry with a Brit accent was more like 'En-er-ray'  LOL.  Ummm . . . also I think was a catchy song 'Something Tells Me I'm in to Something Good'

Catchy songs though . . . .

Thought I would go ahead and pick up on Herman's Hermits, also known as, Herman and the Hermits.

Herman's Hermits were poppy and an immediate charm. Lead singer Peter Noone, started out when he was just a kid. Songs like Mrs. Brown You've Got Lovely Daughter, I'm Henry The Eighth I Am, and There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over The World), were great hits. He also did some older covers like Two Silhouettes On The Shade and numerous others.

And also the mention of this song, another favorite I learned to play on the guitar. Listen People.

Peter (Herman - not his real name) Noone, performed it in a 60's Revival show on PBS. Really incredible and sang all his greatest hits. Noone's band are all talented musicians and always have been. Peter got the crowd into a rollicking live singalong with, I'm Henry the Eighth I am. This was pop at it's finest and the audience absolutely loved it! Here's Listen People.

  1. Listen People

Listen people to what I say
I say everybody's got to have their day

    And don't you know that
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
Everybody's got to win a heart
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
When you do, I hope you never part

I once found love, found love just like you
But then he came, he might come to you

    And don't you know that
Everybody's got to lose somebody sometime
    But everybody can part
Everybody's got to lose somebody sometime
So take care that you don't lose your heart

Take my advice and you'll always find
You'll be happy all of the time
Take my advice and you will see
You'll be happy as you can be

Listen people to what I say
I say everybody's got to have their day

    And don't you know that
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
Everybody's got to win a heart
Everybody's got to love somebody sometime
When you do, I hope you never part
    You never part
    Listen people
    Listen people

Yes, indeed.

The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967, was an event to see and be seen. The Rolling Stones did not perform there, but member Brian Jones, was in attendance. He hung out with all the other musicians and looked beautiful. The Animals also played a set there and Eric Burdon composed a song of this experience.

Among those also performing.

The Mamas and the Papas

Janis Joplin and the Holding Company

The Byrds

 Otis Redding

Paul Butterfield Blues Band

The Jefferson Airplane

The Who

Ravi Shankar

Country Joe and the Fish

The Grateful Dead

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Here's Monterey.

  1. Monterey

    The people came and listened
Some of them came and played
Others gave flowers away, yes they did
    Down in Monterey
    Down in Monterey
Young gods smiled upon the crowd
Their music being born of love
    Children danced night and day
    Religion was being born
    Down in Monterey

The Byrds and the Airplane did fly
Oh, Ravi Shankar's music made me cry
The Who exploded into fire and light
Hugh Masakela's music was black as night
The Grateful Dead blew everybody's mind
Jimi Hendrix baby, believe me, set the world on fire, yeah

His Majesty, Prince (Brian) Jones, smiled as he moved among the crowd
Ten thousand electric guitars were grooving real loud, yeah
You want to find the truth in life
    Don't pass music by
and you know I would not lie, no I would not lie,
    No, I would not lie
    Down in Monterey

Three days of understanding of moving with one another
Even the cops grooved with us
    Do you believe me, yeah?
    Down in Monterey
I think that maybe I'm dreaming
    Monterey
    Down in monterey
Did you hear what I said?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
