I do keep the computer files backed up for i have a lot of time involved since there are a bit over 1,900 individual songs and a bit over 14 gigabytes of files. it would take too many CD's to hold them so i use remote hard drives and carbonite. it is almost impossible to find good original music from the late 50's to mid 70's. i have blue-toothed my phone to my car radio and drove from Oklahoma to Vancouver BC and not hear the same song twice. edited to add that i am listening to B J Thomas's Hooked on a Feeling while writing this... You see, as a former employee of the State Department of Education, being an analog audio/visual tech and multi-media specialist, which also entailed working side by side in the State Library and Curriculum Lab, we had the need for allowable and acceptable duplicates of cassette tapes as both back up for those that became destroyed or damaged and archival purposes. These were permitted and bypassed the usual "no duplicating" for commercial or private use. That being said, if you do not make copies of materials for the reason of selling them for marketing or profit which is basically bootlegging, I would just be cautious not to be blatant about it. Let me put it in the opinion of the music industry. It's almost expected that people will share tapes with other persons like friends and persons you are acquainted with. The idea behind copyright is not about whether you are making money by copying, it is about protection the artists, producers, etc. from losing income they might have realized if not for the bootlegging. Plain and simple, if you make a copy and give it away, you have committed intellectual theft and potentially deprived the owner of a sale. This sometimes gets multiplied when copies of copies are made. I encourage (Christians especially) people to obey the laws and make the production of printed material, photos, sound recordings, videos, etc. profitable. Artists and the marketers make money, from hard work, investment and talent, and they deserve it. It they cannot get a return, then less is available to us. I am afraid that the ease with which material are copied and shared on the internet, has produced a generation which thinks they are entitled to benefit from the work of other, for free! 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I didn't mention videos, but these were also quite common in the the field of Education and for educational purposes. Just to be perfectly honest here, because that's my thing - HONESTY, I have. Yep. I have. So has everyone I've known personally. I doubt seriously anyone in the federal government of copyright controls would be interested in taking advantage and arresting an old man with less than a thousand dollars in his bank account. Never? No I have. However, I don't think I have done so in over 10 years, part of my sanctification, I suppose. I download music from youtube IF I already own it. If there is something I want that I do not have, I purchase it. I do not do that often, because I have very littoe disposable income. If I want a CD etc, I buy legitimate used retail items. When there are items in our video section, I have often gone to the publisher to get permission before posting, many times on behalf of other posters. When I teach a class, sometimes I want to reproduce written materials to hand out (like from a commentary for example), if I do, I get permission from the publisher, they do not always allow it, and sometimes they limit the number of copies I can make. I am not perfect, I am pretty sure that the last time I drove, I might have driven 71 when the sign says the limit is 70. It annoys people when you try to obey the law, because in our flesh, we think we are above the law, I guess! You are probably right about that, but the employees of the govt, are not who we need to please or concern ourselves with, the authority is in the law itself, and we can obey the law, or disobey God, it is not complicated.
