When Bob Dylan teamed with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison, to form the Traveling Wilburys. With such a tremendously talented lineup of musicians and composers. they were an immediate success. They never toured or did any "traveling" together, but did two well loved albums during their rather short lived time as great friends doing terrific tunes. Sadly, Orbison passed away. There was to be no replacement for him and the group decided to disband. One of many songs they did that comes to mind is, End Of The Line. This song featured all four trading vocal lines from the song and became an instant hit.

Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line (It's All Right) George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne

Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze
Well it's all right, if you live the life you please
Well it's all right, doing the best you can
Well it's all right, as long as you lend a hand

You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring
Waiting for someone to tell you everything
Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring
Maybe a diamond ring

(chorus 2)
Well it's all right, even if they say you're wrong
Well it's all right, sometimes you gotta be strong
Well it's all right, as long as you got somewhere to lay
Well it's all right, everyday is judgement day

Maybe somewhere down the road aways
You'll think of me, and wonder where I am these days
Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays
Purple haze

(chorus 3)
Well it's all right, even when push comes to shove
Well it's all right, if you got someone to love
Well it's all right, every thing'll work out fine
Well it's all right, were going to the end of the line

Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive
Im just glad to be here, happy to be alive
It dont matter if you're by my side
I'm satisfied

(chorus 4)
Well it's all right, even if you're old and grey
Well it's all right, you still got something to say
Well it's all right, remember to live and let live
Well it's all right, the best you can do is forgive

(chorus 5)
Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze
Well it's all right, if you live the life you please
Well it's all right, even if the sun don't shine
Well it's all right, were going to the end of the line

Dylan, Lynne, Petty, Harrison, & Orbison

I became a fan of Jeff Lynne when I copied on reel-to-reel tape a library copy of the ELO album On the Third Day.  ELO's Face the Music is in my top 5 favorite albums of all time.  Such great artists all.  It's the music industry's loss that no more music will come from this talented quintet.

ELO splashed on the scene with progressive rock and like some, including Genesis, eventually veered towards mainstream in attempts to keep abreast with remaining on the charts with Top 40 hits. I have the Eldorado LP on vinyl, being their second album. One track resembled Lennon sounding lyrics and another had close similarities to McCartney.

My fondness for Electric Light Orchestra ebbed and flowed through the years, but I've always enjoyed Jeff Lynne's guitar stylings. He was an obvious good choice for the Wilburys and a dear friend of George Harrison. I've always been a fan of Tom Petty and did see him and The Heartbreakers in concert during his Wildflowers project and tour. This was in 1994

What a tragic loss the subsequent deaths of Orbison, Harrison, and Petty were.

It's well known that for some time during Bob's earlier career, Joan Baez and Dylan were like co-joined twins who were outspoken about the affirmative messages in the lyrics to the the songs they composed. Joan personally attended and sat behind the scenes of his first tour of the UK. It was almost amazing to see her take a backseat as it were to his career. Years after their breakup, they did have a few strains personal strains and critique concerning each other's musical styles and abilities. Sometimes they weren't exactly complementing one another. Dylan made swipes at Joan's lyrics, Baez bashed Bob's lack of guitar skills. So did Joni Mitchell for that matter, who used about 50 different alternate tunings to her own style. This did give her quite an edge as an artist. Back in the early happier years, when all seemed more friendly amongst most country folk artists, Joan Baez composed this very pronounced song.

  1. Love Is Just A Four-Letter Word

    Seems like only yesterday
    I left my mind behind
    Down in the gypsy cafe
With a friend of a friend of mine

She sat with a baby heavy on her knee
Yet spoke of life most free from slavery
With eyes that showed no trace of misery
A phrase in connection first with she occurred

That love is just a four letter word

    Outside a rambling store-front window
Cats meowed to the break of day
Me, I kept my mouth shut
To you I had no words to say

My experience was limited and underfed
You were talking while I hid
To the one who was the father of your kid
You probably didn't think I did, but I heard you say

That love is just a four letter word

    I said goodbye unnoticed
Pushed forth into my own games
Drifting in and out of lifetimes
    Unmentionable by name

Searching for my double, looking for
    Complete evaporation to the core
Though I tried and failed at finding any door
I must have thought that there was nothing more absurd than

That love is just a four letter word

Though I never knew just what you meant
When you were speaking to your man
I can only think in terms of me
    And now I understand

After waking enough times to think I see
The holy kiss that's supposed to last eternity
Blow up in smoke, its destiny, falls on strangers, travels free
Yes, I know now, traps are only set by me
And I do not really need to be assured

That love is just a four letter word

Strange it is to be beside you
    Many years and tables turned
    You'd probably not believe me
If I told you all I've learned

And it is very, very weird indeed yo hear words like forever plead
Those ships run through my mind, I cannot cheat
It's like looking in the teacher's face complete
I can say nothing to you but repeat what I heard

That love is just a four letter word

Former AC/DC bassist Paul Matters died this week.  Cause of death is unknown.  He was only with the band a short time and even sang lead circa 1975.  I was never a big AC/DC fan.

No, I hadn't heard. I never cared for their music all that much either. I did see them once for the headlining act Aerosmith. I was a fan of Steve Tyler and Joe Perry. This was before 1980 when they had surrounded themselves into a dark hole of hard drug addiction. At that point I lost interest in them altogether.

As for AC/DC they were just starting their career when I saw them. They weren't stupendous or anything, just driving simplistic hard rock. The lyrics weren't good, indicative of playing fire with the devil. Bon Scott was lead singer then and he died of acute alcohol poisoning. That's the tragedy of rock 'n' roll sometimes.

"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
And it's Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don't pull you through
Don't put on any airs
When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outa you.

Now if you see Saint Annie
Please tell her thanks a lot
I cannot move
My fingers are all in a knot
I don't have the strength
To get up and take another shot
And my best friend, my doctor
Won't even say what it is I've got.

Sweet Melinda
The peasants call her the goddess of gloom
She speaks good English
And she invites you up into her room
And you're so kind
And careful not to go to her too soon
And she takes your voice
And leaves you howling at the moon.

Up on Housing Project Hill
It's either fortune or fame
You must pick up one or the other
Though neither of them are to be what they claim
If you're lookin' to get silly
You better go back to from where you came
Because the cops don't need you
And man they expect the same.
Now all the authorities
They just stand around and boast
How they blackmailed the sergeant-at-arms
Into leaving his post
And picking up Angel who
Just arrived here from the coast
Who looked so fine at first
But left looking just like a ghost.

I started out on burgundy
But soon hit the harder stuff
Everybody said they'd stand behind me
When the game got rough
But the joke was on me
There was nobody even there to bluff
I'm going back to New York City
I do believe I've had enough.

I must be out of the loop on this. Do you know anything about it?

One English band has been overlooked in our discussion and I don't know why.  That group is the Moody Blues.  My wife and I got to see them in concert at Riverport Amphitheater in Earth City, MO.  Great band and talented musicians.  I had their first seven albums on LPs and then they went on hiatus.  Hayward-Lodge came out with a solo album, I think Graeme Edge did too.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
