Scientists can't possibly believe that the universe is millions or billions of years old, can they?

Well consider this, we have developed ways to measure how far distant galaxies are from us. Some are billions of light years away. Well if that is the case then it has taken billions of years for the light they give off to reach us so we can see them which obviously means a rather old universe.

Again the further away a galaxy is from us the older it is and we see that it looks more primitive than the closer ones. Which all points to a beginning at some point in time.

It is obvious that evolution is not the main player because of complexity which does point to intelligent design which points to a God of creation.

When looking at the time question we need to consider from whose perspective is the scriptures measuring time. Gods or ours.

My own personal opinion on this is that if God could create a man,
already grown, mature, and a woman, why not a world, a universe or galaxy, mature (old).
He is God....
Perhaps He has a sense of humor, to mess with the heads of our scientific 'experts'.

"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God"

"See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,
according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ"

I have known many scientists who are believers and say the more they learn about science the more they see God.

You should search Nobel Prize winners in the sciences who believe in God.  The list is quite impressive.

Well said my friend. What's the point of science? Simple: to learn about God's creation. :)

Light travels 299,792,458 meters per second or using a different measurement, 671,000,000 miles per hour. The Earth is approximately 150,000,000 km from the Sun (93,000,000 miles) so it takes photons emitted by the Sun approximately eight and a half minutes to reach us on the Earth. Here's something to think about: the next time you look toward the Sun, you're seeing it as it was eight and a half minutes ago.

I live in East Tennessee, about 45 minutes from the Smoky Mountain National Park. The mountains start about 20 minutes from my house. When it gets cold in. winter, you can see clearly how tge temperature drops based upon elevation.

10,000 ft elevation drops the temperature probably 20 degrees. We are 93 million miles from the sun. if we were 92,999, oo5 miles away, we would die from the heat. If we were 93,000,005  away, we would all mom and pop cicles, lol.

It amazes me we can be so blind as  to think we could make living on Mars possible. We could 'exist' on Mars perhaps, but at what cost? Man is screwing up this amazing planet. If we would put the  money spent on weapons and space exploration into making this a sustainable place with no poverty,  we could do it.... if it were not for fallen natures whose favorite words are ME and MINE.

It should be easy for people to see this, but as the Word tells, "Because they did not like to retain God in their knowledge...", the potential for greatness disappears in a flash. Thank God, He is going to fix this mess, but getting to that  point is going to bring many a tear.

blessings,

Gids

Hey, Gideon. I live in Tenneessee too, there are some mountains in our backyard, I think they are the Ozarks but I don't know? I can't tell east from west, I am in the upper right hand corner of Tennessee on the map, if that helps at all. In a place called greeneville.

I mean, who in their right and sane mind would honestly believe anything like that? It betrays basic common sense and rational thought to say that the universe we live in is millions or billions of years old.

Besides, I thought that radio-carbon dating had been refuted as not a reliable dating method anyway.

My father is a proponent of Intelligent Design. I am not surprised that both of my parents are, they are born-again Bible-thumping saints in Christ. Dad says that the complexity of DNA proves that an intelligent mind created all life on this planet. Things did not happen by random chance. I think this as well.

I say that intelligent design is far more likely than evolution is.  I never really did believe in evolution or believe in the sciences. Lack of interest I believe. Also science is not infallible like GOD is. Scientific papers have shown to disagree with one another, its hard to tell which ones are a lie.

What are some of the things that you guys believe?

The spiritual nature of man _ void of God _ rebels against, resists and pushes away from the notion of a Creator. Desperate to find an answer out there, they grasp at anything in their imagination that can support their views... "There must be a natural, physical causal force ... the answer is out there somewhere ... we'll find it." And because the size of the universe is based on the speed of light, they assume it is 13.7 billion years old. So if they see that light from the furthest stars, they logically think it took that long to get to us.

But leaning on our own understanding/logic without factoring in the supernatural power of God is faulty.

The only logical explanation (when including God in the picture), is that when He created light, He also gave us that light instantly. The light from distant stars that were created on the fourth day was seen by Adam on the sixth day.

Billions of years seems far-fetched to me. I once read that it takes a clock 12 days to tick off a million seconds, but 32 years to tick off a billion seconds. When you translate that into years, it boggles the mind.

Though I'm only a layman, I can't help but think: Would the sun be able to keep burning all that time? How long would it take to burn through all its hydrogen?

One last thing, I've noticed that the "young earth" people seemed to get dismissed and lumped with the flat-earth types. Maybe it's because it wipes out all the eons of time necessary for the theory of evolution?

Young earth people have a false sense of timing for the theory of evolution to be taken seriously.  To actually make the theory of evolution to be taken seriously one would have to support an infinite aged universe.  Since the universe had a beginning, the big bang, the age of the universe can be accurately predicted.  A 13.8 billion year age of the universe is scientifically measured supporting the big bang.  The big bang does not support evolution, only a universe without a beginning supports evolution.  I am an old earth creationist.  The flat-earth people deserve a category all their own with a padded room and lock on the door.

Why? Why can't the universe appear to be billions of years old? The science and the theories really do fit the data from the observations. Well, most of them - the differences are where you get the really fun and interesting science. But let's say you're right. Quantum electrodynamics (QED) and Einstein's theories of relativity certainly do betray common sense - but without both theories, you wouldn't have your GPS. Without QED you wouldn't have the very computer you used to post. Or lasers. Or MRI, or terabyte harddrives. Or the internet.

However:

  • It doesn't affect salvation one way or the other.
  • It assumes that physical conditions are the same all over the universe and throughout the lifetime of the universe.

There are theories that the universe could go through multiple expansions and contractions, followed by another Big Bang. However, an Italian physicist (I forget her name, sorry) demonstrated mathematically that even with that, there must have been a first one.

Interestingly, when the Big Bang theory was first proposed, it was ridiculed by atheists, as it smacked of special creation. But the Big Bang theory has zero to do with the theory of evolution. That's an entirely different discussion and the two should not be conflated.

My personal understanding is that when Adam and Eve fell, the universe broke. At that moment, it changed and became old, decrepit and corrupt.

Could you elaborate on that thought?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
