Hello there, Michael. I hope you're keeping well.

I understand the divisions in the Psalms, but in a more general context it can be significant for some of the more knotty (and bizarre?) mathematical speculations that Bible chapter and verse divisions were introduced arbitrarily.

Strictly speaking Psalm 119 isn't the longest chapter in the Bible. But yes — I'm kinda stating the obvious!

1) What Bible translation are you referring to?

2)  In which century were verses and chapters introduced into scripture?

3) Were these chapter and verse divisions divinely inspired?

1) He is referring to EVERY translation having chapters and verses

2) Jerome started versifying Scripture doing sections (I don't recall which, exactly) in the sixth century (500s)

3) Yes, and no and I suspect a "gotcha" is coming. They were added for the sake of clarification of the texts. No texts were changed, but people could read God's word easier. that is why the yes/no answer is correct.

As far as the longest chapter of the Bible. It is written in the form of an acrostic using the Hebrew alphabet aleph, beth, gimel etc. The first letter of each word in the first section begins with, aleph. In the second section, the same pattern holds true using the Hebrew letter beth followed by gimel, etc.

What is amazing is that in some way, EVERY one of the 176 verses save one, it refers to the Law of God. (However, I have not found that exception.) Because several letters have different constructions if they are at the end of words, namely  kat, mem, nun, peh and tzadeh they are not considered in Psalm 119's acrostic

Here is the direct answer you sought:

The chapter divisions commonly used today were developed by Stephen Langton, an Archbishop of Canterbury. Langton put the modern chapter divisions into place in around A.D. 1227. The Wycliffe English Bible of 1382 was the first Bible to use this chapter pattern. Since the Wycliffe Bible, nearly all Bible translations have followed Langton’s chapter divisions.

Nope. You've found and got excited about patterns where they're really not there.

If you look for 555, you'll find some amazing correlation. It's the way numbers work. Furthermore, in random events, there are billions of random events every day. It would be strange if some of them were not "coincidence".

And then there are meaningful coincidences, like when my wife twenty years ago prays for my migraine attacks to go an never come back and four years later she asks me if I've had any. And I haven't. And 16 years after that - still none. God dun that.

There is no such thing as something intrinsically random. Randomness is an abstract concept that exists only in concept and has no physical basis.

I recall studying the subject of randomness many years ago as part of physics. Apparently true randomness isn't possible in physics because of causation. If we were somehow made aware of absolutely all the factors of causation then no element or event would seem to be random but a result of multiple contributing factors.

Having said that I believe God either intervenes or allows outcomes as He wills, according to His Purpose, Plan, and Pleasure.

Because of our limited capacity to know all causes we perceive things as random, which I believe prevents us from overloading our brains trying to figure out things best left to God.

Hannah is also a  palindrome.

Interesting.

If you guys are looking for patterns, then why in the very important π Pi is an irrational number, which means that it is a real number that cannot be expressed by a simple fraction?

Why are there no patterns after the decimal point? It should be a simple task, divide the circumference of a circle by its diameter  C/d   Doesn't that put a hole in the hull of your little row boat?

I doubt there was a National Security Issue that caused you to edit this post, Bandersnatch.

Great strawman pitch though, as if anyone is claiming all sequences reduce to a predictable, calculable pattern. What can be calculated and predicted with regard to the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter is that the answer will not be a round figure. :emot-LOL:

I've highlighted some palindromes and segments of repetition.

The 5 & 7 pointers are worth quite a bit. 6 nines straight is superb.

Two words in refutation. Quantum Electrodynamics. I might say QED! (Joke for physicists there).  But if you don't like the word random, I'll rephrase:

There are billions of events every day. It would be strange if some of them were not "coincidence".  Here's a fun explanation: https://www.sciencealert.com/watch-here-s-how-a-mathematician-dissects-a-choice

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
