Hey everyone do you mind if I pick your minds a little? I am studying the book of Jude. It is actually an assignment from my pastor. I will be teaching a class on it with three other men in our churches leadership team. I have been listening to it on audio format (KJV) for a few months now. It is starting to sink in. I also have access to PC Study Bible to help me. I have a few questions if any one cares to answer.

1) Do you know of any sites where I can listen to the book in a different translation?

2) When you start studying a book like Jude, how do you do it? I mean beyond just reading it over multiple times. I am still kind of new at doing deep studies of the Word of God, and I am open to any words of wisdom.

3) I am thinking about doing the class in a power point presentation. Does anyone know of any good sites for pictures or animations to use?

4) My pastor told me he wants me to teach on the book and not to preach on it, if that helps to let you know where I am coming from.

Thank you all in advance for any help.

I only have an answer to part of your quesitons about how you go abotu studying a book of the bible..

First and foremost, as i think you know, pray about it, pray about it, pray abotu it  Ask God to show you his word and to revel it too you... second, as you said, read it over a couple times.. another thing, get out a dictionary and look up the meaning of words(I would advise a Webster's 1968 dictionary..i think those are biblical meanigns..)... try studying each verse one at a time and think of ways to apply it to your life and take notes as you go. Before you start, pull out a few peices of paper and something to write with, so that you dont' have to stop in the middle of the study for it... keep praying, and keep reading :b: Another thing, keep asking the pastor questions about it.. he will reveal things to you from a differnt perspective and things that you never previuosly thought of..

There are about 14 cross references in the book of Jude. You can pretty much take this little book exactly as you read it. However, it is always good practice to turn to those cross references and study them out. The Lord may reveal something to you that He wants you to see more clearly. Matter of fact, ask Him to reveal anything to you that He wants you to teach on.

Hey, Joe. Try the Inductive method

Inductive Bible Study Link

Why Inductive Bible Study?

Inductive Bible study is learning how to exegete the Bible for all its worth with our best efforts. We do this through teaching people tools and skills to help observe the text, dig out the meaning, and then apply it to their lives.

Some people view the Bible as an un-climbable mountain, a dark cave that is feared to be trespassed upon. Be encouraged, and be comforted, that you can indeed do it. Through the inductive method, you can climb that mountain and venture into the cave with confidence. In fact you will be able to mine the truths as an expert

I've found it helpful, both in studying out a book, and listening to bible studies, to have an outline of the book. Though you can find these already done, it'll be most helpful to you if you create one yourself. Then perhaps compare others and see where and why they might have made different divisions.

Also, consider the life of the writer, and the audience to whom he's writing. Set a background of the situation that they were in, and how this epistle was to help in dealing with it. This should be presented as an introduction to your class.

Whenever the author quotes another source, look carefully at the surrounding context of the Scripture quoted. The circumstances surrounding those in previous days are often very similar. There is always a reason why he's chosen to quote that scripture, and not another. Seek out the reasons.

Study Jude along with 2 Peter.

Keep an open ear for "echoes". Similar phrases that are used other places in Scripture.

Follow cross references. Sometimes they can be very helpful.

God bless you in your studies

Thank you all very much for your input and advice. I am taking it all in. T & O thank you for the article, it is very helpful. I am doing ok so far. My approach so far is I have listened to it in the KJV dozens of times. I have read it over in the KJV a few times. I did this to let it sink in and become more familiar with it. I have a good feel for the basic flow of the book now. My next step is to start focusing in on the verses and braking it down into sections. I am also starting to read it in the following translations, King James, New King James, New American Standard, Amplified, Contemporary English, New International, New Living Translation and the Message. I think this will give me a good perspective on what the book is saying. I have a few commentaries that I want to look at, but I want to do some more studying on my own before I look into the commentaries to much. Again thank you all so much for your input. God Bless.

I think www.biblegateway.com has some audio bibles.

My favourite thing to do when studying a passage is to check all the references that are in the margins of my study Bible. It's pretty amazing what else can be observed when you see the same thing in a different setting, or a phrase a little reworded. *shrug* that's all the two cents I've got :online2long:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
