The Temple of the Holy Spirit

This is awesome. God dwells among us.

 

2 Corinthians 6:16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,

“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
    and I will be their God,
    and they shall be my people.
17 Therefore go out from their midst,
    and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing;
    then I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you,
    and you shall be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.”

Have you studied this passage which is part of Stephen's Speech?

Act 7:44-50  

Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.  (45)  Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;  (46)  Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.  (47)  But Solomon built him an house.  (48)  Howbeit the most High dwells not in temples made with hands; as says the prophet,  (49)  Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will you build me? says the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?  (50)  Has not my hand made all these things?

Also, have you noted what Solomon said when dedicating the temple he built?

1Ki 8:27  But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built?

And what about this word from Isaiah regarding who God wants to dwell with?

Isa 66:1-2  Thus says the LORD: "Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?  (2)  For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist," Says the LORD. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

The temple is slighted in comparison with a gracious soul, Isa_66:1, Isa_66:2. The Jews in the prophet's time, and afterwards in Christ's time, gloried much in the temple and promised themselves great things from it; to humble them therefore, and to shake their vain confidence, both the prophets and Christ foretold the ruin of the temple, that God would leave it and then it would soon be desolate. After it was destroyed by the Chaldeans it soon recovered itself and the ceremonial services were revived with it; but by the Romans it was made a perpetual desolation, and the ceremonial law was abolished with it. That the world might be prepared for this, they were often told, as here, of what little account the temple was with God.

Matthew 8:20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Yes, it is relevant because Jesus said it to warn against treating this world as our home rather than a place we pass through on our way to eternal glory.

What are your thoughts about these verses?

2Th 2:3-4  Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,  (4)  who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Anywhere the Spirit of God is, is the temple, First it was a tent, then a building, and now it is us. The Holy Spirit is dwelling in our hearts
