Hi there I am fairly new to the forums here at worthy ( a week or so?) i dunno anyways I was just wondering, nto that I overly care what peopel chose to type or how to spell it abbreviatiosn or whatever, btu I am curious as can be why do some people use God and others use G-d? just seeking general information, I am not tryign to belittle anyone or anything, I assume it is otu of a respect thing or perhaps lords name in vain type of deal? nto real sure btu very curious any info would be great.

Ah, well it's a custom among the Jewish people to write out God as "G-D" as they see it as more respectful. It's a way for them to show respect to God in the Jewish culture. Many Christians do it because they are completed Jews and just grew up writing it that way, so it's a habbit. Others do it because they too view it as a sign of respect.

They don't view it as religiously important but just a personal preference.

I see- kind of like how we ( well, most of us ) capitalize God's [ proper ] name/pronouns refering to Him ? A respect thing ?

Exactly. Or how Greek scribes, out of respect to the name Christ would simply write X, which is the Greek symbol for "chi" is X, which is also the first letter in the name "Christ". So out of respect they would simply write "X" instead of the entire form "Christos". Just a culture thing If we write "X" in our culture in place of "Christ" it's considered taking Him out of it.
