I personally don't like modern versions for various reasons. The reaons depending on which version. Sorry about the mistake. I meant to say Refuel Bible. Not Refule. As far as what it is, the Refuel Bible is a joke. Some of the things in it would make you laugh. IT ROCKS!! It's really good commentary and it's helping me understand what i'm reading big time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I actually like the commentary being out of the way. I don't always want commentary on something. God speaks for Himself oftentimes and, as a matter of fact, sometimes I like to read a clean, non-marked up Bible (my study bible has highlights, notes, etc.) so I can really just get the Spirit's leading rather than being distracted by my notes and highlights. Honestly, the NIV has gotten a bad rap for very little real cause. I read one person who said that it was bad because it had more "s"'s in it, and "s" is the sound of the snake, which is the devil. Honestly. *rolls eyes* Many of the others I've read have compared it to the KJV to show its supposed faults, and of what use is comparing two english translations? At any rate, any real differences are so minor that the message is not at all damaged. I have always had an NIV (right now I have the NIV Study Bible; it's fabulous!), but I also own an NASB New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs. Paolo, if you'd like to be able to browse through some translations before buying one, I recommend www.biblegateway.com. Rather, they are paraphrases of the Bible. That means it isn't translated from the original languages/manuscripts. Here, look at this: Accurate, But Readable The Message was paraphrased over a period of ten years, straight from the Bible's original language (Greek and Hebrew). The idea of The Message isn't to water down the Bible, making it easier to digest. The idea is to make it readable - to put those ancient words that their users spoke and wrote every day into words that you speak and write every day. I actually quite like The Message version of the Bible and think it is great to read, but for actual Bible study I use my youth Bible, which is New Century Version, or my metal Bible which is the New Living Translation. Sometimes I'll read my Good News Bible or look in the NIV. I'd recommend avoiding The Street Bible (or Word on the Street as it's now called) that one is a bit weird. I'd like to get a NKJV one day though because I like the KJV but I just don't understand it properly! So if anyone has one spare.. But really, it's down to personal choice at the end of the day and what you feel comfortable with and what you can understand.
