Hmm, the one I could find that I knew was "Smooth": we sang it in Choral class back in High School...that was a fun one

One of the reasons that I asked this question was because when I was growing up (like I said, I was raised on rock music) I used to get a bad rap from some people and from my religious education teacher at school. I was the type to wear black leather jackets and riped jeans and had long hair. My religious education teacher used to keep making comments towards me that would imply that I was a Satanist, which I never was. When he did these kinds of things I would make a comment along the lines of, "look at the grades I get at religious education. I am always top of the class". And he would always come back by saying something like "Yeah but Satan knows the Bible better than probably anybody". I used to get really tired of him judging me like that. Then he would always make comments about the type of music that I listened to by saying that it was the Devils music. That is one of the reasons that I asked if it is only ok to listen to Christian music or is it alright to listen to secular music.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The majority of what i listen to is rock/metal. People are always surprised that I listen to it but the majority of comments are from non Christians. I watch what I listen too, obviously, but I don't think it is fair to tar all non Christian songs with the same brush. Just because someone isn't writing as a Christian doesn't mean they're writing an evil song.

Most of my CD collection is rock or metal, I love it. I'm in a rock band and though none of the other band members are Christians (though I'm holding out for the bassist we haven't found yet!) the songs we sing (I do vocals and write the majority of the lyrics) are all very suitable for me to sing. Though we do our own stuff, we also do covers of rock/metal tracks. I wont sing anything that I would not be happy singing in front of my parents!

Any here have a favorite song that has not been mentioned yet?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ooooh too many to mention, to name a few:

Sunset Blvd by Lucerin Blue

Pinch Me by Barenaked Ladies

Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden

The Wicker Man by Iron Maiden

No More Lies by Iron Maiden

Moondance by Van Morrison

There are soooo many more but I wont bore you all!

Were you posting that in defense of KISS or in condemnation of them? Those lyrics are pretty bad as well (Matt 12:34).

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Trust: That song lyric was in defense of KISS. No song on this Earth is perfect. But to paraphrase Luke Skywalker. There is good..." sometimes. Not always, but sometimes. Remember, even ABBA wrote a praise song about music that I have posted before. "Thank You For The Music!"

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, since you posted it in defense of KISS let's disect it.

G-D GAVE ROCK AND ROLL TO YOU

God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you

Put it in the soul of everyone

Do you know what you want? you don

Then you'll find this U2 expose enlightening.

Follow that link above and then click the link in that webpage to see the expose clip.

Remember, you don't get to be #1 in the world's (i.e. Satan's... 2 Cor 4:4) music scene by being godly (John 15:19).

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I never claimed that the guys of U2 are some sort of model for godliness or anything, Trust. If I were to believe everything the video said (which I don't), they would still sound like mere mortal men, desperately seeking for truth, but stumbling over themselves in their search. Have we not done the same at some point in our lives? At least they're honest about their trials. There are many Christian artists who go ahead living lives of ungodliness and deceit...does that make their music any less valuable? Do you turn off your filters if they say they are a Christian artist? That is dangerous...at least when it's someone who makes no such claims, it is easy to remember to discard the bad stuff and retain only the good.

Anyway, again I find a Christian article which has twisted the truth about people and taken things out of context. *shakes head* When did it become such a trend for people to lie, supposedly in the interest of truth?

Well, I don't know how it is "twisting the truth" when you can clearly see the 666 blasted all over their monitors at their concert. Plus, Bono is dangling an upside-down cross and prancing on stage dressed as the devil.

Yeah, you're right... the Christian who made that expose must clearly be misunderstanding Bono's innnocent intentions. :emot-hug:

Iryssa, is your spiritual compass really that off?

As a Christian I find no excuse for blasting 666 to thousands of people and dangling the cross of Christ upside-down in mockery to Christ.

If they wanted to make a point there are other ways to do it. Why all of the satanic anti-christ antics?

I'm sorry... but, as a Christian, I don't see how they could be any more offensive.

1Co 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

My wife hates the song " Black Magic Woman" because it deals with a woman who seems to have charmed Carlos. But if you read the lyrics it is not glorifying the black magic woman. In fact he is saying that she is a bad influence on him. So is this a song with a good message or a bad message?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm still waiting for an answer on this one. :)

From me? Or just anyone? Personally, I think it's the latter case that I mentioned; that they're leaving it up to the listener to decide. There just isn't enough information, really...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
