Delors to advise on how to salvage EU constitution

23.01.2006 - 10:17 CET | By Lucia Kubosova

Jacques Delors, a former European Commission president and the key player behind creating the bloc's single currency, is now helping the commission revive the rejected EU constitution.

Mr Delors, now 80 years old, has been asked by the development commissioner Luis Michel to lend him a hand in drawing up a new European "access charter," the UK daily Telegraph reported.

The project is designed to promote to citizens all the benefits of the EU in their every day lives, with hints at rights to housing, and the guarantees of access to justice and education to Europeans in the EU constitution.

If citizens were better aware of these provisions in the constitution, they would also be more likely to support the document, Mr Michel argued in Belgium's leading paper Le Soir.

The bloc's constitution was put on ice after its rejection by the French and Dutch citizens last year.

So far, it has been ratified by 13 countries, while other member states have for a time put a freeze on the process.

EU leaders agreed in June last year that they would hold a "period of reflection," to discuss possible consequences of the French and Dutch "no" votes for the union and its constitutional process.

Last week, the European Parliament supported a report calling for this period to be used for salvaging the treaty, aiming to get the document to come into force by 2009.

Praised and condemned

Jacques Delors is highly recognised in the EU history books for his leading role in creating the euro and boosting the bloc's internal market.

Following his work as a French finance minister from 1981 to 1985, he took up the job of European Commission president for two consecutive terms, from 1985 to 1994.

While praised for his performance in many European capitals, Mr Delors faced frequent criticism from the then UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who attacked his federalist ideas and his backing for trade unions to be recognised at the European level.

For his part, Mr Delors has been quite outspoken about his view on Britain and the EU, particularly after concluding his career at the commission.

"Europeans thought a little cynically that the English would be less harmful on the inside than on the outside. They ended up thinking that it was better for Great Britain to be inside, a decision which some people still regret," he said last year at a speech for students in Italy, according to the Telegraph.

Concerning the EU charter, Mr Delors commented "I have been hearing more and more, especially from the other side of the Channel, that European construction as conceived by the founding fathers is out of date, is finished. I do not think such an abrupt judgment will allow us to progress."

"It is true that this crisis is grave, to the point where Europe has sunk into a light coma. But we must not let ourselves get bogged down in this serious crisis," he added.

Chasing Rabbits

As I read about Javier Solana's -- yes Solana's -- new European Gendarmerie Force (Read about it here)>>>> http://www.statewatch.org/news/2006/jan/03eu-gendarmarie.htm

(And here)>>>> http://www.realinstitutoelcano.org/analisis/735.asp

I'm reminded first of the rabbit hole in the children's story, Alice in Wonderland. And, second, I'm reminded of some lyrics to a song that say, "When your chasing rabbits."

You see, that's what I see many of us evangelicals doing. Every time a new rabbit pops up, we think we have to chase it. This is especially true of Bible prophecy. What we don't realize is, while we're busy chasing rabbits, we may miss important events in the real world.

Jesus even warned us about these end-time rabbits. When His disciples asked Him what would be the sign of His coming and the end of the age (Matthew chapter 24), the first things Jesus said was rabbits would appear to distract us. Some of these rabbits, Jesus warned, would even be able to perform deceiving signs and wonders. And, it was up to us not to be deceived by them.

For example, take a look at all the differing views today on Bible prophecy. They're like rabbits darting in every direction. I believe it's time for us to stop this nonsense. It's time for us to take our heads out of our rabbit holes and begin looking at what's before us.

Israel has been reborn as a nation. Israel is crying out for peace. Israel is looking to Solana's 1995 Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for Peace and the Barcelona Process to deliver that peace (Read about it here)>>> http://nyjtimes.com/cover/12-19-05/TheBarc...cess-Israel.htm

Solana appeared among a 10-nation alliance known as the Western European Union (WEU). With their Recommendation 666, the WEU have made themselves the military wing of the EU and, with the Solana Decision, have erected around them a wall of secrecy. Now, we learn five of these 10 nations have formed a trans-border, para-military police force. And, here's the kicker. This new EU-wide police force that they have created was created outside the institutions of the EU. In other words, outside the EU, but not outside the 10-nation WEU -- where Solana is Secretary General!

Friends, I believe the writing may be on the wall.

And, we're chasing rabbits.

Daniel 9:27

Jesus was referring to Daniel 9:27 when He said:

Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will (Matthew 24:15-21 New American Standard Bible).

What always jumps out at me is the part in parenthesis that says, "let the reader understand." It's evident that something of potentially great importance is being communicated. So, let's take a close look at the passage that Jesus was referring to. The prophet Daniel wrote:

And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate (Daniel 9:27).

It is commonly understood that the "he" in this passage is referring to the "prince who is to come" that is mentioned in the preceding verse -- Daniel 9:26. Since the people who destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish temple back in 70 AD were Roman, it is believed this coming prince will be from a revived Roman Empire.

Where it says this prince will "make a firm covenant with the many," some other translations -- such as the King James -- says he will "confirm a covenant." In other words, instead of making a new covenant, the prince that will come will confirm, or make strong, an existing covenant -- one that's already on the books but not working.

The duration of this agreement with many will be for "one week." The Jewish calendar didn't only have weeks of days, it also had weeks of years. So, it is believed this confirming action will be for a period of seven years.

In the middle of this seven-year period, this prince will put a stop to "sacrifices and grain offering." This suggests that a part of this seven-year agreement will allow Israel to return to their temple services. However, after only 3 1/2 years, the agreement will be terminated.

This brings us to today's news. A center piece of the Jewish temple services has to do with animal sacrifices. And, it's interesting that part of the EU's seven-year budget for external actions will be directed at what's called "thematic strategies." Among these strategies will include an action plan geared at bringing the participating nations in line with EU standards on animal welfare (Read about it here)>>>> http://www.nieuwsbank.nl/en/2006/01/23/r014.htm

(And here)>>>> http://www.fulfilledprophecy.com/fs3.html

Now, notice the date when they want these new standards to be established -- 2010. Friends, that's the middle of the EU's next seven-year budget period that will begin on January 1, 2007.

Is that the way the events foretold in Daniel 9:27 are going to come down? Is the 1995 Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for Peace the foretold covenant with the many? (Read about it here)>>>> http://nyjtimes.com/cover/12-19-05/TheBarc...cess-Israel.htm

Is the new European Neighbourhood Policy that will begin on January 1, 2007, along with its many action plans, the seven-year confirming process? Will a thematic element that has to do with animal welfare lead to a termination of this agreement with Israel 3 1/2 years later in 2010? Remember, it says, "in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering."

There's no way to know for certain. But, as God's people, we need to be aware of what's going on around us. Especially, in these last days as we read more and more about geo-political realities that seem to fit the prophetic picture. The most important being, the prophecy that Jesus referred to -- that one about the coming prince and his agreement with Israel.

The one that's up to us readers to understand.

Rev. 17:12-13

Behind the news reports coming out of Europe an intriguing drama is playing out. Although we're only getting bits and pieces, as we bring the pieces together, an understanding of the drama may be possible. And, once again, what we're seeing may be biblical.

To begin with, we keep hearing about an on-going conflict over information going on between the European Ombudsman and the Council of Ministers. Upon closer examination, it actually appears to be a battle between Ombudsman P. Nikiforos Diamandouros and Council Secretary General Javier Solana.

From what I've been able to gather, this battle goes back to around June of 2000. This is about the time the 10-nation Western European Union (WEU) adopted its Assembly Recommendation 666. A month later the Council adopted the infamous Solana Decision. This action amounted to a clamp-down on the public's access to documents the Council deemed secret.

It was said during this time that it was the US and NATO culture responsible for what Solana was doing in the Council. However, one must keep in mind that Solana was once the Secretary General of NATO. And, he was, and still is, Secretary General of the 10 NATO/EU nations that make up the WEU. So, I strongly suspect that something more than just NATO culture may be going on here -- especially in light of Bible prophecy.

This brings us to today's news (Read it here)>>>> https://poky.atpco.com/dfn/login.asp?forwar...79%26C%3Deurope

Solana's new terror tzar, Gijs de Vries, has given a speech where he spells out how far the EU has come in its war against terror. And, he has also spelled out where the EU is still lacking. One of the areas lacking, says de Vries, is the EU's failure to approve its new Constitution.

Why does the EU need its new Constitution? The report provides an interesting answer. Fran

EU leaders seek legitimacy through action at 'elitist' event

30.01.2006 - 09:54 CET | By Mark Beunderman

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - A high-profile conference in Salzburg on the future of Europe saw the interest of leaders and intellectuals shift away from constitutional designs towards concrete political action - but EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana warned against sidelining the EU constitution.

"Legitimacy through action" emerged as one of the buzzwords at the "Sound of Europe" conference on Friday and Saturday (27-28 January), staged by the Austrian EU presidency in a bid to revive the discussion on the EU constitution.

Participants in the prestigious conference, including four EU government leaders and two presidents, differed in their diagnosis on whether or not the EU is "in crisis" after last year

rollinTHUNDER,

Thank you so much for being faithful in keeping us informed and up-to-date on these current events and also for giving us your insightful commentary on the events and the potentiality that they may be and how they may be fulfillments of prophecy.

I, for one, believe the dates line up with what I've been hearing from the Lord. I think we should take serious consideration of the events that are unfolding all around us. The Lord said that we should know when the time is near by the signs, and he did say that we should be able to read the signs. I think you are doing an awesome job of reading the signs. I'm not saying I think you have everything 100% correct, but that I believe you are well-read, you have followed the news stories, you have compared them to scripture, and you have done a great job of putting the puzzle pieces together.

I don't understand how all these news stories fit with prophecy, so I really appreciate your commentaries and how you demonstrate the possible parallels between scripture and what is taking place in the world.

I notice that you seem to focus a great deal on the EU or the WEU. What do you think about all the unrest in the middle east, and where does that fit in with prophecy? Where do you think the USA fits? If we are truly at the beginning of the seven years of tribulation, then either the USA is there or it is gone. I wonder about all these countries who hate us so much. I know Israel is hated that much, too, but sometimes I think they hate us more because of our power, affluence and our protection of Israel. I'd appreciate your commentary on what you think will happen to the USA and how you feel what is going on in the middle east fits with prophecy. If you have already stated that previously, then please just give me a link.

Thanks so much!

rollinTHUNDER,

Would you please provide a short synopsis (possibly in bullet form) of the events that have taken place since you made this prediction and what has been fulfilled so far?

Thanks!

Hi Sue,

Every so often I'll throw in one of my commentaries, but basically I started this thread to keep watch of the EU, and particularly Solana and the WEU. When I first started this thread, the western media hardly ever said anything about what's happening in that part of the world. And I believe it's a must for prophecy students, especially since Jesus commanded us to keep watch. On this page, I've posted three commentaries from Fulfilledprophecy.com that sum up pretty well what's been happening over there. The EU is rapidly becoming a major player in world affairs, including the war on terror, the Mid-East peace process, the global economy, and even the race in space. It's very interesting to see Daniel's fourth beast and Israel rising up again to take center stage in the world in these last days. And it's all laid out for us in God's prophetic Word. All we have to do is read it, and pray for understanding.

Times getting short, so stay tuned!

Big five agree to refer Iran to UN

31.01.2006 - 09:50 CET | By Lucia Kubosova

China and Russia have agreed to join the EU and US in efforts to refer Iran to the UN's security council due to its resumed nuclear activities.

Foreign ministers from five permanent members of the UN security council (US, UK, France, Russia and China) plus Germany reached a consensus late Monday (30 January) in London.

They suggested that the UN watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) "should report to the security council its decision on the steps required of Iran," stated a joint statement released after the meeting.

But ministers noted that the security council would not take any action until March after it has received a formal report on Iran from the IAEA, the BBC reported.

In a reaction to the move, Iran's deputy head of the Supreme National Security Council Javad Vaeedi said that his country would not bow to the international pressure.

"Research and development is the Iranian nation's legitimate right and is irreversible," Mr Vaeedi told state television on Tuesday, adding that Tehran remained open to "logical and constructive talks" with the EU over its nuclear case, according to Reuters.

But earlier on Monday, UK, France and Germany rejected a fresh bid by Iran to slow down nuclear research, with the EU trio arguing the offer was in fact not "new" at all.

While Iran claims it wants to use enrichment programmes for peaceful objectives, the international community fears they could be used to develop nuclear arms and cals for their complete closure.

Less than US expected

According to analysts, the message of Monday's meeting of the superpowers is less radical than was desired by the US and EU members of the council, as it stops short of the immediate formal referral of the country to the UN.

If Tehran is eventually referred to the UN, it could face sanctions.

US president George W Bush said he would mention the escalating issue in his State of the Union speech to be delivered on Tuesday (31 January).

He noted that his message to the Iranian government would be "if you want to be a part of the family of nations, give up your nuclear weapons ambitions."

"We're united in our goal to keep the Iranians from having a weapon, and we're working on the tactics necessary to continue putting a united front out," he added.

EU extends aid to Palestinians in bid to prevent 'mini Iran'

31.01.2006 - 09:56 CET | By Mark Beunderman

EU foreign ministers meeting on Monday (30 January) agreed to continue aid to the Palestinian Authority under strict conditions put to election winner Hamas, fearing a complete cut-off of funding will create room for Iran to step in.

The ministers refrained from quick moves to slash its aid to the Palestinians, amounting to

Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
