Standard & Poor's specialists predict global economic Armageddon

Front page / World / Americas

31.01.2006

Experts of Standard & Poor's forecast a global economic collapse. The collapse will be caused with the demise of the US dollar rate against the European currency by more than 30 percent. The dollar, specialists say, may lose almost 45 percent of its current value against the euro. However, it is obvious that even a 30 percent reduction will affect the international economy greatly.

Standard & Poor's (SP) ties the possible decline of the American currency with the imminent rise of the European economy and the payment shortage of the USA, which made up 6.4 percent of the nation's GDP last year ($790 billion).

SP analysts emphasize the restricted growth of the USA's GDP, which has been behind the level of ten percent for quite a while. US assets

Right On Cue

In the New Testament book of Revelation we not only read about the revival of the old Roman Empire under 10 kings and the Antichrist (Rev. chapter 13), we also read about an end-time Babylon (Rev. chapters 17 and 18). We also find that the 10 kings and the Antichrist will hate this Babylon, and will destroy her with fire (Rev. 18: 16).

There is not enough space in this commentary for me to list all the reasons I believe this 10-horned beast of Revelation is a revival of the Roman Empire and, specifically, the EU. However, here is one reason. The Scripture tells us the 10 kings and the Antichrist will destroy this Babylon for two reasons. One: They will have a God-given, common foreign policy. Two: This Babylon will rule over them. The Scripture says:

For God has put it in their hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God will be fulfilled. The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth (Rev. 17: 17-18 New American Standard Bible).

So, God will give the 10 kings and the Antichrist a common purpose -- in other words, a common foreign and security policy. Isn't that exactly the purpose of the new office that the EU heads created for Javier Solana back in 1998 under section 666? The official title of his office is High Representative of the Common Foreign and Security Policy. On top of that, the EU's new military wing that Solana heads happens to be made of 10 nations.

Evidently, the 10 kings and the Antichrist will hate the coming Babylon because she will somehow rule over them. The above passage says she "reigns over the kings of the earth." Doesn't this sound like what the UN wants to do -- reign over the kings of the earth?

This brings us to today's news about the privatization of the UN (Read about it here)>>>> http://www.thebusinessonline.com/Stories.a...2E-D07EB5AA1CEE

You see, the end-time Babylon of prophecy has two faces -- a religious and a commercial. Her religious side is revealed in Rev. chapter 17, and her commercial side in Rev. chapter 18.

That's why the news about the privatization of the UN at this moment in history is so interesting to me. In my last commentary, I wrote about a new person on the scene, an Islamic leader by the name of Ekmelettin Ihsanoglu. It turns out that the EU's Solana has decided to develop a long-term working relationship with Ihsanoglu. It also turns out that Ihsanoglu is busy within the UN attempting to promote new international laws and standards that will foster greater respect for Islam and Islamic culture throughout the Western world. My point is, the UN has a religious side.

And, today, we're hearing about the UN's growing commercial side. At the prompting of the US, the UN is turning to the private sector for help restructuring. The agency has even hired US consulting firms. In other words, from now on, the UN's driving motive will be the same as that of US big business -- profit.

Now, all this brings us to another issue that is commonly raised -- the idea that America is the Babylon of end-time prophecy. The reason for this view is because, when we read the description of the Babylon found in Revelation chapter 18, it does have things in common with modern America. However, we must remember, the UN also has these things in common. That's because, the UN was created by America, in the American image. It was created to be a united states of earth where the world's leaders could yield, willingly and without coercion, to a higher authority than that of man.

Yes, thanks to America, the UN is fast becoming an international, religious organization. And, thanks to America, the UN may now be growing into a more efficient commercial organization.

End-time Babylon may be right on cue.

New Iran enrichment work 'escalates' crisis: EU

Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:49 AM ET

By Mark Heinrich

VIENNA (Reuters) - EU president Austria said on Wednesday Iran's resumption of work to enrich uranium for nuclear fuel had needlessly raised tensions with the West, which fears Tehran is covertly striving to build atomic bombs.

U.N. inspectors saw Iranian scientists feeding uranium gas into a few centrifuge machines in a test run on Tuesday, officials associated with the International Atomic Energy Agency said. The action defied Western efforts to have Iran give up enrichment work in exchange for trade and other incentives.

Iran confirmed to Russia on Wednesday that a delegation would come to Moscow on February 20 for much-delayed talks on a Russian proposal to defuse the crisis by purifying Iranian uranium on its soil, Interfax news agency said.

But Tehran insists on a right to enrich uranium, the fuel for nuclear reactors or -- if purified to high levels -- warheads, on its own territory. The West fears this would allow Iran to divert high-grade fuel for clandestine bomb-making.

European Union powers and Washington persuaded the IAEA's board of governors on February 4 to report Iran to the U.N. Security Council for possible action, which could include sanctions.

Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, in a telephone call with Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki on Tuesday, urged Iran to re-suspend uranium enrichment efforts because "this represents an unnecessary step toward escalation at a critical and decisive phase in (this dispute)", her office said.

"We're not questioning Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. But the history of Iran's nuclear program and the many unresolved questions have raised serious doubt about an exclusively peaceful use of this program," she said.

She said Iran's resumption of uranium enrichment activities would damage relations with the 25-nation EU.

Russia and France issued similar calls on Tuesday.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she saw a "real chance" for a negotiated solution, citing the Russian proposal and world support for the decision to report Iran to the Security Council.

"We're a long way from having exhausted all the possibilities," she told the German weekly magazine Stern in an interview released ahead of publication on Thursday.

"Iran must recognize that its actions have left it isolated within the international community and has gained nothing."

RUSSIA COOL ON SANCTIONS

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in Vienna for talks with EU leaders, said the IAEA's ability to ensure compliance with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Iran has signed, should be improved.

"(But) I am convinced that ...sanctions will not help achieve this goal. Talks and work within the framework of the IAEA will help achieve this goal," Lavrov was quoted by Russia's RIA news agency as telling Russian journalists.

Iran says its nuclear program, parts of which it concealed from the IAEA for almost two decades, is designed solely to generate electricity for its economy.

Iran has given conflicting statements on what exactly is being done at the Natanz pilot fuel enrichment plant.

Gholamreza Aghazadeh, director of Iran's atomic program, was quoted by ISNA student news agency on Tuesday as saying the centrifuge work relaunched was on a "small laboratory scale".

"Injecting gas into one or a few centrifuges could not be termed enrichment," he was quoted as saying.

A senior Iranian official, who asked not to be named, denied on Wednesday that any uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas had been injected and said he could attest to this because he had been with inspectors all day at Natanz on Tuesday.

"Iran has not done any uranium enrichment work yet but the ground has been paved to do so," he said in Tehran.

A diplomat accredited to the Vienna-based IAEA said on Tuesday inspectors watched Iranians doing test infusions of UF6 into "less than 10 centrifuges" among a cascade of 164 that were operating at Natanz before it was mothballed in 2003.

Another IAEA-linked official, who asked not to be named, said the amount of UF6 put into centrifuges "was of absolutely no use" for making bomb material. He called the new work "an early testing phase en route to mastering the technology".

Tehran believes the Western-backed push to curb its nuclear program will eventually fade because of international dependence on Iranian oil and gas exports.

Iran had vowed to resume uranium enrichment and halt short-notice IAEA inspections in retaliation for the IAEA vote.

Britons must have ID cards in five years

Feb. 14, 2006 at 2:08PM

British Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labor government has ensured passage of a bill requiring Britons to have ID cards in five years.

Parliament members loyal to the party overcame opposition within their own ranks and won by a margin of 31 votes in the House of Commons in support of the measure.

The bill would require people to buy the ID cards when they request or renew a British passport, reports The Times of London.

The lower house vote reinstated the government's original plans for people to pay an estimated $175 for both documents when they request or renew a British passport from 2008. The bill now goes back to the House of Lords, whose members previously had decided to keep the two documents separate from one another. The Times said the peers are likely to let the government have its way.

Under the bill, applicants for residents' permits and for visas from certain non-European Union countries and asylum-seekers would also be subject to compulsory registration of biometric data such as fingerprints and iris scans on the identity database, the newspaper reported.

Supporters say the program will allow the government to know who is in the country and who is entitled to work and services.

EU to mend relations with Islamic nations: Solana

The European Union is willing to restore strong relations with the Islamic nations, which were soured over the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad, Javier Solana, the visiting EU foreign policy chief, said on Wednesday.

During a meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II, Solana said the aim of his five-nation Middle East tour is to build bridges between Europe and the Muslim world with mutual understanding and dialogue.

The 25-member EU hoped the Islamic nations help calm the situation to avoid escalating the crisis, he added.

Danish daily Jyllands-Poste first published 12 cartoons last September, including one showing the Islamic religion's founder wearing a bomb-shaped turban.

The controversial cartoons then appeared in other European newspapers, sparking widespread protests and a boycott of Danish products in the Muslim world.

King Abdullah II said that the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad by some European newspapers was inexcusable, and they had insulted Islam under the pretext of freedom of expression. He called on all European countries and the EU to prevent recurrence of such offending acts.

Solana arrived here Wednesday after visiting Saudi Arabia and Egypt as part of his Middle East tour which will also take him to the Palestinian territories and Israel.

EU Rules out Contact with HAMAS

By Zaman, Anadolu News Agency (aa), Ramallah, Brussels

Published: Friday, February 17, 2006

Javier Solana, the European Union (EU) High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, declared the EU does not have any plans to make contact with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) for the moment.

Solana, in his press conference after meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said: "The EU will neither invite HAMAS leaders or any of its members, nor contact HAMAS before seeing the new government's program."

Abbas was told to continue cooperation with the EU, and Solana reported the union will never abandon the Palestinian people and will continue their economic support and examine how they will work with the new government.

French diplomats sharing their assessments with Zaman in Brussels Thursday said Ankara's attempt was "worth trying."

One of the European Parliament's most effective committees, Foreign Affairs Committee leader and German Christian Democrat Elmar Brok declared he "welcomed" Turkey's attempt, "The EU clearly has said that HAMAS can only be seen as an acceptable political partner when it stops violence and acknowledges Israel's right to exist.

I assume that Turkey will direct negotiations using these principals in order to help the peace process in the region. Because then this attempt might lead to positive results."

Netherlands blasts Solana on alleged cartoon apologies

21.02.2006 - 17:36 CET | By Mark Beunderman

The Netherlands has sharply criticised EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana for the allegedly apologetic tone he has used when facing muslim countries in the row over Danish cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed.

Dutch foreign minister Bernard Bot has put in a protest to Mr Solana objecting to remarks he made last week during his tour around muslim countries, a Dutch spokesman confirmed.

Among other things, the EU's top foreign policy official said after meeting the leader of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIS), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu "I expressed our sincere regret that religious feelings have been hurt", vowing "to reach out...to make sure that people

Quartet members: Give Hamas time

By HERB KEINON AND HILARY LEILA KRIEGER

Voices are being raised in the Quartet (the US, EU, Russia and the UN) arguing that the cutoff date by which Hamas must accept certain preconditions or face international isolation is "malleable" and not necessarily the day a Hamas government is formed, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

One Western diplomatic official said that among the questions the Quartet principals were dealing with now was what would happen if Hamas were to make some move toward recognizing Israel and continue to abide by a cease-fire, but would not go all the way toward full-throated recognition of Israel or committing itself to nonviolence.

"We struck a hard, tough position, placed a very high bar," the official said.

On January 30, the Quartet issued a statement saying that "all members of a future Palestinian government must be committed to nonviolence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations, including the road map."

"What now requires a lot of fine-tuning is what if they start moving in that direction, while perhaps falling short of the principles. What do we do then? "Do we bring down the guillotine anyway," he said.

He also said that the Quartet never precisely defined what recognition of Israel or a commitment to nonviolence actually meant.

Up until now Israel's understanding of the Quartet's position was that if Hamas did not recognize Israel, disarm and disavow terror, and accept previous agreements with Israel, the international community's relationship with the Palestinian Authority would change when a new Hamas government was sworn in.

Now, however, there are those in the Quartet arguing that the Hamas government will need more time - once it is sworn in - to clarify its positions.

"The outcome of the diplomatic activity that is under way is not predetermined, and there are question marks - questions that will likely remain unanswered for a fair period of time," the official said.

He said that Hamas had little inkling of what it meant to take on the responsibility of government, such as having to pay salaries to 135,000 workers. He also said Hamas was currently working on two tracks: trying to get Fatah into the government and touring various capitals to gauge support and measure their maneuverability room.

"These are both learning processes for them," he said. "It is a reality check. Coming out of the shell and getting exposure abroad is almost always very beneficial, because one starts understanding what is possible."

He said that the Quartet statement of January 30 did not say that the international community's relationship with the PA would change once a Hamas-led government was formed. Rather, the statement read: "It was inevitable that future assistance to any new government would be reviewed by donors against that government's commitment to the principles of nonviolence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations, including the road map."

But, he said, it would take some time once the government was set up for its positions to come clearly to light. In other words, Israel was likely to be disappointed if, as it has said publicly, it expected the world to cut off financial ties with the PA immediately after a new government was sworn in.

"This is a soft plastic moment, not predetermined," he said. "One of the facts that will determine where Hamas goes will be how the international community behaves toward it."

He said that if the international community's premise regarding Hamas was that it is a terrorist organization that has now turned the PA into a terrorist entity, then it is "a lost cause."

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
