Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
In Paul's lifetime - he says COVET To prophesy (which is weird because we are generally supposed NOT To covet); and he says forbid not to speak with tongues - so apparently there were some already trying to forbid it...
What does it mean - in Paul's day and in ours - to be a COVETER OF PROPHESYING and a FORBID NOTTER of speaking in Tongues?

"to have warmth of feeling for or against." Now the books I have translate it "be eager".

From the Greek word rendered "Covet" we get the word "Zealous". In modern English the word "covet" is given an illegal dimension, but it is not so in the Bible. In the Bible the object desired decides whether it is illegal or not. So;

Modern English "Covet" means to inordinately and illegally desire something

Bible "Covet" is to earnestly and zealously desire something. That something could be legal or illegal

I think that prophesying is important being able to prophesy means that lives are changed and the implementation of the spiritual gifts are exercised. This is probably why Paul said we must covet this gift. prophesy is incredibly important for exercising goodness in believers and even non believers lives.
