Yomo, Hollywood movies are full of worldliness. They convey the values and priorities of the world to those who watch it.

I think it is a wise thing for a Christian to not saturate their mind with the things that God calls "the works of the flesh."

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Go through that list and you can pretty much tie it into most scripts that come out of Hollywood.

Watching TV, especially movies such as the ones you listed, is sowing to the flesh and not to the spirit... plain and simple.

And, if you sow to the flesh you will reap corruption. Corruption in your mind, thoughts, speech, and life.

Do yourself a favor and don't watch anything that is contrary to the life of the spirit.

Greetings,

Just because we have the freedom in Christ, because we are not under law, does not mean that we should be involved with the world's version of entertainment or happiness. We are to be filled with the Holy Spirit. You may want to consider:

1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Amen, Dad E. My thoughts exactly.

This is the day when holiness is called legalism.

If ones heart is desperately wicked, how then can one follow the teachings of Christ? Wouldn't the wickedness of the heart cause us to reject the Word of God?

NITE, I would disagree with that. Not only is the heart desperately wicked, but it is also deceitful.

Our wicked and deceitul hearts can allow us to be in Church singing praises unto the Lord one moment, and then the next moment a thought of lust comes to our mind.

That is our wicked and deceitful heart.

We can be hearing a message on covetousness. We can be saying "amen!" to the message. While, at the same time we are coveting something.

Our heart is deceitful and desperately wicked... who can know it?

The answer is:

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

We must crucify the flesh and allow Christ to reign in our lives... moment by moment.

I don't think anyone here will disagree that 99% of television is carnal and fleshly. It doesn't have to be X rated to be carnal, fleshly, and sinful.

The purpose of much of the programming on TV is to tear down the barriers of morality. They are constantly pushing the envelope season after season.

I remember when homosexuality on TV was non-existant. Now it is rampant. But, it didn't start out that way. It was one character here, one character there. Now you have Ellen who is lesbian with her own show... then you have shows that are almost purely about homosexuality in some way or another.

The point is that it is seeking to sell you something in one way or another.

I will agree... my flesh is entertained by MI. It is so neat how he gets around all of the obstacles and fools everybody. But, the whole premise of the movie is lies, deception, and falsehood.

Now, tell me that doesn't offend God.

Eph 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

My wife likes (or used to like) watching the TV show "Alias." It's a "undercover CIA spy" type show. But, it's whole premise is lies, deception, and falsehood.

Misrepresenting who you are, what you're doing, why you're there. That is all lies, lies, lies.

How is that justified as "entertainment?"

Remember, "Thou shall not bear false witness" is one of God's "top 10." What else made God's top 10? Murder, covetousness, adultery, etc. That's some bad company there.

Remember:

Pro 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

Pro 6:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Pro 6:18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Pro 6:19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Be careful what you "entertain" yourself with.

BTW, MI is filled with murder, covetousness, and adultery, too.

If we are to close our eyes and ears to all that is evil and deceitful, we might as well rip out our eyes and puncture our eardrums and go sit in a closet.

There is nothing pure on this planet we live on.

This computer I'm on right now has access to every evil thing a man could think of. Should I shut'r down and never turn it on again?

The truck I drive is capable of ending another's life. Should I not drive it?

Evil is everywhere. You can't get away from it. It sits there waiting for us to drop our guard. Whether it's a movie, driving my truck, walking down the street, or watching a back to school commercial, it sits there and waits.

I know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. I put my trust in the Lord and that's it. There's nothing else.

How many people went and saw " the passion of Christ "? Where was the message there? It was a 2 hour movie about a man being tortured and then crucified. There was no message. It didn't tell anyone what they must do in order to enter the kingdom. But wait, I spoke to soon, there was a message there. It told everyone that if they wanted to make buck to just put the word passion together with Christ and you will make a profit.

That movie was nothing but marketing tool. It also showed just how little people actually know about Christ.

You may believe my heart is evil, but I know better.

You quoted Gal. 2:20. Paul said his heart was filled with Christ. How can ones heart be filled with Christ and still be evil and wicked? A kingdom divided can not stand.

What we speak comes from the heart, that is true. But everything that comes from the heart is not evil.

I know myself, just as you know yourself. I know what's going to pull me from the path and I stay away from it. I'm not just out there running blind.

What's good for one is not always good for the other. What bad for one is not always bad for the other.

I said this before, if something is causing you to sin, stay away from it.

I can tell the difference. This may sound really arrogant to some of you, but I know where I stand in the eyes of God. I put my trust in no one other but Him.

The world is an evil place but I have no other place to live but here.

If you disagree with me, that's ok. If you find fault in my words, that's your opinion. No two people are alike. Even the body of Christ is divided on this world. That's the main reason I don't attend church. I have my bible and Christ is my teacher. I put my trust in no one else but Him.

I don't know if any of this made any sense but it's what I believe. It's me and Christ. Not me and Christ and the devil.

There is a difference with being exposed to evil by being in the world and intentionally exposing yourself to evil for "entertainment/pleasure."

No, I don't think you need to do that. Just stay away from those places on the net that are evil. The same goes for the TV.

Now, if you lack self-control and cannot own a computer without the temptation being too great, then perhaps you'd be a candidate for getting rid of it.

Remember, the context of this thread is "entertainment." So, the question should be "should I entertain myself with that which God calls sinful?"

I say the answer is "no."

Or.....you could simply be a good steward with what God has given you, use His gifts judiciously and be blessed for your obedience to His Word.

Just another option to isolation :(

Be blessed my friend,

Tim

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
