When it says the race is not given to the swiftest, but he that endures.

It is a metaphor that points to the reality that we cannot rely on our own natural strength.

The overarching principle the writer expounds is a reliance on God for all things. For salvation, for strength and for wisdom.

As those 'In Christ' of the Father--our endurance comes from being sustained by God as we look to Him for everything.

We decrease and He increases.

2Cor. 12:10 (NAS20S) Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

What version of the Bible are your using?  My Bible doesn't say "but he that endures" in Ecclesiastes 9:11.  I just checked Biblehub.com that cites individual verses in a wide variety of versions and none of the Bibles say that.  Here is what they all say -

Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

"I returned and saw under the sun that -

The race is not to the swift,
Nor the battle to the strong,
Nor bread to the wise,
Nor riches to men of understanding,
Nor favor to men of skill;
But time and chance happen to them all.
For man also does not know his time:
Like fish taken in a cruel net,
Like birds caught in a snare,
So the sons of men are snared in an evil time,
When it falls suddenly upon them."

This passage from Solomon is saying that "time" and "chance" pull the rug out from under the swift, the strong, the wise, the skilled, those with understanding sometimes.

This passage is not about "enduring" at all.  It does not say anything about enduring.  It's not about salvation.

There’s actually a quote where I have a habit of using the endure part, sorry, but someone quoted it on this site.

Thank you for your fast response.  I see that this is someone's incorrect theology taking a piece of a scripture from Ecclesiastes and a piece of a verse from the New Testament and creating a verse that does not exist.

Best to read the Bible straight from itself.

Absolutely--and yet the OP gives an opportunity for some teaching that is profitable.

Sorry, yeah the wording is off.  The adage was always close to the Bible verse.

Ecclesiastes are lessons given to us, my friend.

I said to myself, “Behold, I have magnified and increased wisdom more than all who were over Jerusalem before me; and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.” And I applied my mind to know wisdom and to know insanity and foolishness; I realized that this also is striving after wind. Because in much wisdom there is much grief; and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain. (Ecclesiastes 1:16-18 NASB)

There came a time when I realized that the more one knows, the more one suffers. Why? "Because in much wisdom there is much grief; and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain."

When my responsibilities were increased, I learned of things which brought sorrow and burdened my heart. When my fellow worker said, "I would like to know about those things, too!" what did I say to them?

"The less you know, the better off you are, my friend. Trust me."

No sweat. Again--what we find throughout all scripture is a clear picture that we should all continually rely on God in and for all things.

And all of scripture points to Christ as the solution. We can do nothing without Him.

John 15:5 (NAS20S) “I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him   bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Does this say we can do somethings? Does it say that we can do some things partially? And then God helps out?

No---Jesus says apart from Himself, we can do NOTHING. No Thing.

Heb. 4:16 (NAS20S) Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
