“But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory..... Matthew 24:29-30

Then the "sign of the Son of Man will appear.... and all the tribes of the earth will mourn".

Why do the tribes of the earth mourn?

First of all, who are the tribes of the earth?

I believe they are the decedents of the 12 sons of the patriarch Jacob.

In the story of the Exodus, we read of their travels across the  wilderness to the promised land over a period of 40 years.

They tell of a being led by a "pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night". They knew that God was with them, leading them.

Every year, they recount the story of their ancestors slavery in Egypt and their release from captivity by the Hand of God, their desert wanderings, and their being led by God through the Sea of Reeds, through the wilderness, to the promised land.

So, why do the tribes of the earth mourn when they see "the sign of the Son of Man"?

The majority of the Jews across the world don't believe in the Son of Man. They worship Jehovah God. What causes them to mourn when they see the "Sign of the Son of Man"?

The sun is darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. Everyone in the world will be in fear. The sky is almost black....no light. God has everyone's attention. And then....

Out of the darkness will appear the "sign of the Son of Man".

The "sign" is the "pillar of cloud and pillar of fire" that led Israel out of Egypt thru the wilderness to the promised land.

.... and they will be cut to the heart... they will mourn.

They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with power and great glory!

Joe Jesus returns in the heavens no question, however the complete counsel of scripture teaches the Lord will be revealed in destructive fire in judgement also?

Those that teach and believe in a future Millennial Kingdom on this earth, somehow forget to mention the fire seen below at the Lord's "Revealing"?

In Love, Jesus Is The Lord

Matthew 24:29-30KJV
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

1 Corinthians 3:13KJV
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

Luke 17:29-30KJV
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-8KJV
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

I tend to agree with your assessment of Matthew 24. If you start with the Temple in verse 1 right until verse 31, everything is Jewish. It is those who live near and in Jerusalem that will witness our Lord bursting forth from the clouds. It is all to take place above Mount Olives (Zech.14:4, Acts 1:9-12). The Greek can be rendered "Tribes of the LAND".

But Revelation 1:6-7 enlarges the company that mourns.

7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen

The phrase "and they also" introduces the Jews as another group. That means that ALL that see Him mourn (and wail) and that some of them are not Jews. But this is not special because Jerusalem will then be the center of world politics and religion. Revelation 11 says it is trampled by the Gentiles. So it is not wonder that more than Jews see Him.

What ever the "SIGN" is, it will have the desired effect. All men will know, at that moment, Who He is. All men on earth will have just endured the Great Tribulation. Already in Revelation 6:16-17 they know Whose wrath they face. They will know that they all made a very bad choice when they chose the Beast. They will know subjectively that they should have chosen a SAVIOR - not a king from the abyss.

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

If scripture says that they will "mourn" AND scripture says the Lord comes with "fearsome" judgment, you have to deal with BOTH. For the Gentiles and those Jews who embraced the Beast, the day will be "fearsome". Fear is a different emotion to "mourn". On that day the Lord comes with destruction on the Nations and their army. But the prophets, right up to Paul in Romans Chapters 9 to 11, all say that the Lord's coming is to SAVE Israel - not destroy them. So you will have the men of this earth having a violent bowel movement while at the same time Israel will mourn and wail at their stupidity, but be saved.

Naturally, without the Messianic Kingdom of 1,000 years, you must emphasize the fire and brimstone and a final destruction of all - good , bad, Israel and the earth. With the Messianic Kingdom of 1,000 years, all the prophets can be taken literally and must not be dismissed, AND one does not have to scratch Hebrews 3 and 4 and Revelation 20 from the Bible.

Only the "Remnant Elect Jew" will be saved, sealed, and added to the Church on earth, "The Rest Are Blinded"

7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

A Messianic Kingdom of 1,000 years on this earth, is found no place in scripture

No place in Revelation 20 does it show or teach a literal Kingdom on this earth, with mortal humans present as many claim, it's a fabricated fairy tale of man

Millennialist use this fairy tale and the words (Thousand Years) and jump into the old testament and use various claims to present their 1,000 year Kingdom, with all claims being "False"

Examples:

Ezekiel chapters 40-46 is the 2nd Zerrubabbel temple 536BC "Historical"

Ezekiel chapters 47-48 is the eternal kingdom, where the river and tree of life are present

Zechariah chapter 14 is the eternal kingdom, where the river of life is present, after the day of the Lord in final fire judgment

Isaiah chapters 11 & 65 is the eternal kingdom, in the New Heaven, Earth, Jerusalem

You should have quoted the full context. It runs till verse 15. There, all Israel receives mercy. Your two divorced verses don't tell the whole story.

And you should also appreciate what a REMNANT is used for by God. It is a representative company for saving the whole group. If Abraham had found 10 in Sodom, God would have spared the city. The Levites were a remnant. Then the Nazerites.

The words "thousand years", mentioned six times in Revelation Chapter 20, are God's Word. They have the same value as "thou shalt not murder", or, Jesus BOTH Son of man AND So of God. I do not dismiss God's Words - especially when they are plain and they are repeated. Look at the state of mankind because Eve dismissed God's plain words.

(Thousand Years) in Revelation chapter 20 shows nothing more than the events described are in the Lord's eternal spiritual, where one day is a thousand years, not literal earthly time as Millennialist claim

Revelation 20:1-6 is 100% in the Lord's eternal spiritual, Angel, Heaven, Devil, Satan, The Souls, The Dead, God, Christ

2 Peter 3:8KJV

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

T7,

Thank you for your response, but it really doesn't have anything to do with  the OP.

Why do the tribes (the Jews of the world) mourn when they see the "sign of the Son of Man" in the heavens?

I'd say it is because at that very moment they realize that they crucified the "God that was leading them" thru the wilderness out of Egypt to the promise land.

Even to this day, they don't really care much about Jesus. But when they see that "sign"....... they will know the truth..... and be cut to the heart.
