An Islamic guide on how to beat your wife

MADRID -- An imam who wrote a book on how to beat your wife without leaving marks on her body has been ordered by a judge in Spain to study the country's constitution.

The judge told Mohamed Kamal Mustafa, imam of a mosque in the southern resort of Fuengirola, to spend six months studying three articles of the constitution and the universal declaration of human rights.

Mr. Mustafa was sentenced to 15 months in jail and fined about $2,600 last year after being found guilty of inciting violence against women.

A judge released him after 22 days in jail on the condition that he undertake a re-education course.

The Spanish government has set up a commission to find ways for the Muslim community to regulate itself. A central recommendation is that imams speak Spanish and have a basic knowledge of human rights and Spanish law.

In his book "Women in Islam," published four years ago, Mr. Mustafa wrote that verbal warnings followed by a period of sexual inactivity could be used to discipline a disobedient wife.

If that failed, he argued that, according to Islamic law, beatings could be judiciously administered.

"The blows should be concentrated on the hands and feet using a rod that is thin and light so that it does not leave scars or bruises on the body," he wrote.

Mr. Mustafa's lessons, which he must pay for, will be taught by teachers from Malaga University.

According to La Vanguardia newspaper, he will have to study articles 10, 14 and 15 of the constitution. The first two address "the dignity of a person and inviolable rights" and states "all Spaniards are equal before the law."

The third one states "the moral and physical integrity of a person in no case can be submitted to torture nor inhuman or degrading punishments or treatment."

I hope the rest of the world will open it's eyes soon. Islam must GO! This imam needs a good session with the rod himself!

C'mon! You know very well there are a good number of folks walking around whose personalities would be vastly improved by a bust on the beezer! I can point to couple of times in my younger years when I certainly needed one......

Yeah, Leonard, I spanked my kids. That's not what I mean.

I'm talking about men who BEAT their wives and kids. I've got quite a few individuals who were abused children, as my clients, who are now very messed up adults.

Very sad.

Disclipine on a child is quite different from "beatiing your wife". A child needs instruction and punishment to learn what behavior is acceptable.

A full grown adult woman should never be physically disclipined , by ANYONE!

Unfortunately, it's not only Moslem men who think it's ok to beat your wife, or even your child.

When was the last time a Christian or any other non-Muslim religous leader published a how to "wife beating " book. Sure this happens in other cultures but not under religous guidelines. How ridiculous does it have to get before the whole non-Islamic world says "enough!!!" Where is the outcry. While many in the West are whining about inncorrect Q'uran handling and pantie-headed terrorists in Iraq, this type of junk is common place in Islamic society but it never seems to make front page. Hmmmmmmm .....Religion of peace...I know...here it comes " well....most Muslims are nice daaaaa". Do " most " Muslims lift a finger to stop this nonsence or are the sorta passive and quiet about it. "We don't want anger the imams" "remember...Muslim sensitivity...we must be sensitive or they'll be mean to us". I don't know which is more sickening, wife beating imams or enabling liberals who have their heads buried in the sand when it comes to the dangers of this relogion". We had better start getting mad before we start getting dead.
