So its ok for fantastic characters to commit blasphemy and claim to be Jesus?!?!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You don't believe Lewis was trying to point people to Jesus?

**********

OK, I found a web page ( Click here ) that includes Lewis' own quotes on the matter:

For example, on May 29, 1954, he wrote to some fifth-graders:

You are mistaken when you think that everything in the books 'represents' something in this world. Things do that in The Pilgrim's Progress but I'm not writing in that way. I did not say to myself 'Let us represent Jesus as He really is in our world by a Lion in Narnia': I said 'Let us suppose that there were a land like Narnia and that the Son of God, as He became a Man in our world, became a Lion there, and then imagine what would have happened.' If you think about it, you will see that it is quite a different thing. (Hooper 425)

The topic is biblical connections in the narnia books. If you want to call names and judge people, I suggest you open your own thread.

First of all, I wasn't the first one to call names.

Second, I judged only the work in question, Narnia, along with its related genre.

Since the topic IS Biblical connections to the narnia books, I have submitted scripture that refutes the idea that the narnia books are in any way truly annointed or edifying to the believer, and further show them, as well as LOTR, to be cheap frauds that contradict scripture.

What have you shown? Nothing but opinion unsupported by scripture. Even the examples given earlier about pagan philosophers having been quoted by Paul, that isn't exactly fair, because Paul was going to say that anyway, and further it was a statement of fact, not a fantastic construction using paganized symbols and non-existent alternate universes.

How about information from someone who HAS read the books?

The lion is never called 'god". He is called king of narnia.

Sings the universe into existance...God spoke and the world was created. Is the bible pagan?

Biblical prophets were shown futuristic times and places, is the bible pagan?

Evil (witch is portrayed as evil)requiring death.

For the wages of sin is death!

Animals speaking... they did in the bible too.

CS Lewis himself said that it was not an allegory but a "story" based on the question "What if Jesus did the same for Narnia that he did with the world".

Get over it already so I can discus the comparisons in the bible.

I want to hear from people who have read the books and have discovered comparisons to scripture.  I want to know the connections, maybe I have missed some.  I find it facinating.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Sorry Giaour.

I have another example.

In The Silver Chair, Aslan gives Jill 4 or 5 signs to memorize that will guide her in her quest. He instructs her to repeat these signs every day - morning and evening, or something like that. At one point in the story, she and her companions are given refuge in a place of comfort and indulgence. She becomes so relaxed that she forgets to repeat the signs. Later, they discover the deception that they were in - this "refuge" was meant to destroy them. To her dismay, Jill realized she was unable to completely recall the signs she needed to follow.

I was in elementary school when I first read this book.

A few years later, I began reading the Bible on my own. I read this passage:

Deut. 6

6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

See the parallel?

But I am comparing it to the Bible. And the Bible says it aint gospel.

I agree biblical prohets were shown futuristic times and places, but they weren't shown fantastic places and times and universes. I agree God spoke the universe into existence, but Jesus is not a literal lion, and Aslan is not Jesus. Nirvana is never called "God" by the hindus either, but it fills the same role as any other pagan god-principle. Do you know that one of the commandments is not to make graven images? Even if it is one that represents the true God of heaven? This is the same principle.

Exodus 20:4 - Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

WSB,

Please stop ruining the topic I started.

I am trying to find the biblical comparisons.

If you don't want to stick to the topic, don't post in it.

Giaour -

i have to appologize to you. This thread is probably the first time we actually agreed on something. :)

But I am going to have to back out at this point.

I'm too tired from my chronic illnesses to really address this issue as it deserves

And I'm just feeling more and more physically drained with this stuff.

WSB - I agree with Gerioke on this one:

...I also understand that he comes from a place were witchcraft and voodoo run rampant.

I even worried about him when he hadn't been around for awhile. But I have been noticing an air of discontent in a lot of his posts.

WSB, you were bitter when I first met you and you are even more bitter now. I pray that you find some spiritual nourishment, where ever you are. You have an amazing brain.   I wish I could meet you face to face and give you a big hug.  :)  I know you have good intensions but please lay off the caffiene. :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, maybe not the caffeine part....that's just Geri's humor.

There is a place for judging sin.

But to borrow a quote from Petra ages ago: "What are you looking for the devil for when you ought to be looking for the Lord?"

(The funny thing is they put this in a backwards masked message during the time when Christians were getting all up in arms about backwards masking! :o )

They had a point. When we get so caught up with looking for and stamping out evil - we forget our focus - "Whatsoever is good . . . think on these things".

When I was younger, I was "sin obsessed" as well. I was rebuking everybody for "sin! sin! sin!" Where did it leave me? Did I bring anyone to Jesus? To my shame - no. I can tell ou names of those I drove away from Jesus because of my attitude, though. :(

But as for:

You just helped refute your own argument. You spoke of no apparant conviction toward the Lord, or of being compelled to memorize the Bible after reading this passage. If your(collectively) arguments about how Narnia can be used to evangelize were true, then you ought to have instantly been convicted in some way towards God and his true Holy Bible....

In fact, there is nothing in that passage that even remotely convicts anyone. there is only a superficial parrallel.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Actually, I was convicted. I remember this all these years later because it still convicts me.

I have this terrible problem with laziness, though. :(

A very terrible problem. . . .

I'll leave it at that.

If you want to devow me as a lazy sinner . . go ahead. I can guarentee it won't help me overcome this problem, though.

I'm so sorry you are sick, Neb.

I didn't know.

I pray you will feel better soon.

I think the more you get to know me, the more you will see we have in common.

If you can think of any more comparisons, please post them. You don't have to make them long posts, save your energy for healing.

I through arguing with WSB on this topic. I'll just skip his posts until he sticks to the topic at hand.

You have shown me things that I had not caught before, for that I thank you very much.

No apologies needed.

Your sister in Christ

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
