One of the main things Jesus came for was to reveal the Father to us.  Why is the title "Father" so important?  A father has offspring in their image and likeness. Once a father brings forth children, they are his, and nothing can change that.  They have his DNA, his biological life and many of his attributes.  They can't somehow not be his children, because they were born of his seed.

We have been born-again of our heavenly Father's seed (Greek: "sperma"). If what is true of us being born of our earthly fathers, do we think it is different with our heavenly Father, Who is infinitely more steadfast and powerful?

Of course not.

What loving fathers do is not kill their offspring or allow them to die (if at all possible).  However, they do test and discipline their children to see what is best for them and their development. The testing can sometimes be severe, in order to somehow save the child.

Notice the verses below from 1st Corinthians 3:13-15. The previous verses talk about how were to be careful with how we build once we're born-again (with wood, hay, stubble or gold, silver, precious stone) - this is regarding our works, not our eternal salvation:

"Each one’s work will be made manifest for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet only so as through fire."

We were looking at John's First Epistle and Romans 8 yesterday and Father, Son and Holy Spirit feature being linked together in the work of redemption. Such an important observation.......

I reckon we were thinking about the importance of recognizing the Persons of the Godhead..........

Everyone will choose either to live for their flesh, or to live for their spirit. The former leads to death, while the latter to life.

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

If we then continue to live for our flesh when we are aware of the truth, there is then no other sacrifice for our sinning (choosing an alternate path).

Hi @luigi Such a tremendous chapter, Romans 8...........

It would seem the sweet holy Spirit is convicting you letting you know the way you are doing it is wrong. They drank wine yet never took it so far as to get drunk..not even close. So if you do it and you get drunk then yes its wrong meaning a sin..

But it's good to know that I'll still go to heaven anyway, right?

People here have provided a lot of good verses from the Bible to back up their positions

Except for one person, everyone seems to believe we go to heaven regardless of what our lifestyle is during this life.

I'm running in to far more people that say you cannot ever lose salvation and very few that say you can

So it seems like how we live doesn't natter at all because we cannot lose salvation once we get saved.  I guess that's why they call it good news right?

That would be a waste of time if the kid cannot lose salvation would it not?

If your kids are bad, do you kill them or apply some discipline?

Read 1st Corinthians 3:13-15 and you will see it's about discipline as it says that after the testing "he himself shall be saved, yet as through fire."

From that passage we see that once born-again, the believer's works - what they do after getting saved - will be judged.  And even if they are found wanting (their works are completely burned) they themselves remain saved as God's children.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
