You can add scriptures, but you cannot take away from these scriptures that state clearly that

salvation and election are both through sanctification of the Spirit.

Q. What does Peter mean by "sprinkling of the blood"?

1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,

through sanctification of the Spirit,

unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:

Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Paul stipulates that the process of sanctification is paralleled

by a (growing knowledge and) belief in the truth.

Grace AND Truth in Salvation, established in every good word and work.

2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you,

brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you

for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord

Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were

taught, whether by word or our epistle.

16, 17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father,

who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,

comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

There is a rather thorough and I think wonderful sermon by the Prince of Pastors Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon that demonstrates sanctification is threefold. It is of the Father, the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

“Sanctified by God the Father.”— Jude 1
“Sanctified in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Corinthians 1:2
“Through sanctification of the Spirit.” — 1 Peter 1:2

That sermon is titled

"Threefold Sanctification" Charles Haddon Spurgeon  February 9, 1862Scripture: Jude 1 From: Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Volume 8

Credit to  https://www.spurgeon.org/resource-library/sermons/threefold-sanctification/#flipbook/

The opening paragraphs are so very powerfully presented. I recommend a read of at least the opening regarding sanctification and the unity of God in this matter of our sanctification, a matter so important for understanding our own eternal security.

By God, in Christ, through the Spirit. Beauty.

That says enough for me. Sunday sermons tend to be a bit wordy. Excellent example of using the scriptures in presenting the simplicity of the Gospel. Shows the three fold nature of God, but sanctification is One. "That Christ would be fully formed in you".

Hi, Yes wordier then a seven second tv commercial anyway. I thank you for the topic as it led me to this absolutely awesome presentation  from Rev. Spurgeon. His presentation is helping me already put together  in far better harmony some thoughts on the subject of sanctification that have previously left some conflict in my mind over time.

Awesome that God has used your thread this day  to lead me to  Spurgeon's presentation in the word of God. I think it will soon lead to practical applications for my own perseverance.

As for myself I think it is treat when coming across a wordsmith's compilation, their melding  of practical thought for use, my use today, along with the  scriptural basis for that practical application. I now see need of and opportunity  for practice, as I am set aside, sanctified. I see it more clearly now for the presentation by an illuminated wordsmith shepherd. It is now a most awesome morning for having read it.

Romans 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin,

but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This would be a better application for the term "dead reckoning".

All ye navigators, take heed!

I like the way his closing links directly to your thread on "where is deliverance"?

May it be yours, to come humbly and confess your sin,

and ask and find forgiveness, and then, but not till then, there is hope

that you may be sanctified in the Spirit of your mind.

The Lord bless you for Jesu's sake.

This statement also illustrates the point raised in the thread on repentance,

as distinguished from confession and forgiveness.

We often offer the lost the opportunity to repent and be reconciled to God.

Here, Spurgeon offers the Saints the opportunity to come forth and confess sins.

@Mr. M  What's the difference, in your opinion, between justification and sanctification?  Right now, it seems that you are convoluting the two concepts.

Could you elaborate on how I am convoluting concepts?

I prefer to integrate all concepts of the apostolic doctrines in Christ.

For example, we are taught:

Matthew 12:36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

I would suggest that in order to be fully justified in word and deed, we need to go a step further.

1 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

I would further suggest that the process of bringing "every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" to be a statement that illuminates sanctification, and enables one to be fully justified in "word and deed", which is to be approved by God.

Christ is said to be "justified in the Spirit" 1 Timothy 3:16,

as we must also to be "conformed into His image".

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,

giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

This clearly demonstrates sanctification and justification in Christ.

Only by trying to separate them can there be the appearance of convolution.

I will leave that to you.

Justification is by faith alone ... and then once one comes to justification then the work of sanctification is "proof" of salvation.  I believe that is probably the way to view the subject.

The thread's title was ... Salvation through the Sanctification of the Spirit.

This is a list of verses that show that Salvation is by Justification by Faith Alone.

https://www.openbible.info/topics/justification_by_faith_alone

Sanctification is the cleansing work ONCE someone is BORN AGAIN.  This is probably the way to view it in my humble opinion.

is the academic work of theologians.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
