The majority of academics, scholars, interpreters, and followers of the Scriptures contend there IS A LITERAL ANTI-CHRIST actor or figure that will come onto the scene in the near future.

There is a very small number of folks that believe there is NO SUCH EVIL FIGURE, but there is certainly the “SPIRIT OF THE ANTI - CHRIST that has been around since the cross and will continue until the end.

Unless I am mistaken, the literal mention of the word “anti-Christ” is only found in 1st and 2nd Peter, and they speak of the “spirit” and not a literal person.

If that is true, then where do we find this “anti/Christ” person in the Scriptures and when does he arrive?

It is my thought that there is NO such person but there is the “little horn” that is clearly revealed in Daniel 7,8, 9 and 11 (but he is not ever identified as the “anti-Christ.”

So, can someone please explain the verses showing he is a real person/individual?

Thanks.

Yes, you are right.. these are the  verses. They do not us "an anti-Christ" will come but anyone that deny the Christ or speak a different gospel, etc., are labeled as "anti-Christs." If you deny the Messiah - if you are Muslim or Hindu or atheist, or anything other than a believer, you certainly are an (not THE) anti-Christ).

God has gone to great lenghts to describe the evil one (the little horn of Daniel 7,8,9 and 11), and He specifically told us what he will do, when he arrived, how long he will continue. There is no shortage of verses disclosing him. However, there is almost NO mention of him in the commentaries or interpreations.... does that make any sense. Yet, almost everyone has locked on to these few verses that speakRE of the "anti-Christ" spirit or one who will be labeled as an "anti-Christ" because of his / her refusal to accept the Messiah.....There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THE SCRIPTURES THAT SPEAKS OF A LITERAL FIGURE OR INDIVIDUAL (MEANING "THE ANTI-CHRIST" OR BOOGEYMAN OR WHATEVER... NOTHING). This was / is ALL DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED BY THE Jesuits in the 16th century along with their unscripural 7 year tribulation period (they stripped the Messiah of the last week of the 70 weeks prophecy and through it 2000 years in the future). This last week was specifially set aside by God for the Messiah to fulfill His part in God's plan of salvation. The Jews part in the restoration covered the first 69 weeks - restored the city, the walls, the buildings, the Temple, the sacrificial services, the sabbatical cycles... all had to be completely restored BEFORE the arrival of the Messiah on the first day of the last week.

If you want to see PURE EVIL, the little horn has taken the "Holy Week" (last 7 years when the Messiah was to fulfill His God given mission in His plan of salvation), and stripped Him of it... and attributed it to some mystival boogeyman that will come in 2000 years.

Shows that antichrist shall come, and every spirit also that confesses not Jesus Christ is come in the flesh that this is spirit of the antichrist.

Appears very much like one spirit that works in many

1 John 2:8 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come,

*even now* are there many antichristswhereby we know that it is the last time.

And here, Every spirit .."this IS that spirit of antichrist"

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:
and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Many deceivers, and yet "this is A deceiver AND an antichrist"

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh
This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?

He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

You do know how to search the internet for things like the date when John wrote his epistles, I hope.

Also you may be interested to know I found 8,151 results in this Prophecy forum for the word "antichrist".

I am not sure what that means.

Can you comment on the breath of scriptural verses revealing the “little horn” verses the few verses in the NT that seems to clearly speak to the “spirit” of the anti-Christ..

The joys of researching the resources available online are worth experiencing.

Over 50 years after the crucifixion of Christ, John speaks of "the antichrist to come".

The exact date of writing John’s epistles is not known, but it is believed to be written

between AD 85 and 951. According to the Encyclopedia of The Bible, the epistles were written

after the gospel, and at least 1 John and 2 John were written at about the same time. A likely

date would then be about AD 87 for the epistles2. [Sourced by BingChat]

In the book of Daniel, the “little horn” is mentioned in chapter 7, verse 8. The prophet sees a vision of four kingdoms, and the fourth kingdom has ten horns. Among them is a single “little horn” that makes itself prominent and “speaks blasphemously.” 1. The little horn is given more details. It has eyes and a mouth, perhaps to indicate that this is a person rather than a kingdom. Eyes are often associated with pride 1. It speaks boastfully and uproots three of the other horns. In the judgment scene which follows, the other horns are not specifically judged along with the little horn. There are at least three possibilities for who this arrogant “little horn” could be 1:

  1. The majority of scholarship accepts a Maccabean origin of the book of Daniel, so this arrogant horn is an obvious reference to Antiochus IV Epiphanes. In fact, this identification seems clear in Daniel 8:23-26. The vision in Daniel 7 is therefore not prophecy, but a retelling of Judea’s relationship with Babylon, Persia, Alexander’s Greece, and the Seleucid king Antiochus IV 1.
  2. For the minority of scholars who argue that the fourth and final beast is Rome, the little horn is a Roman emperor, usually Nero or Domitian, but the first century has plenty of candidates for blasphemous kings! Revelation 13 and 17 seem to take up the imagery of beasts and arrogant horns from Daniel 7 and apply it to the Roman Empire 1.
  3. It is also possible to argue that this arrogant little horn is a future enemy since the final kingdom is destroyed by the kingdom of God (the rock not cut by human hands in Daniel 2 or the son of man in the next paragraph). If the prophecy extends to the time of the messiah, then the little horn is plausibly explained as the antichrist, the leader of the rebellion against God in the last days. I would suggest that this is how Revelation read Daniel 7 1.

While it might sound like dodging the question, perhaps the prophecy applies to Antiochus, Rome, and the end times all at once. From the perspective of the Jewish people, there will be waves of anti-Jewish kings and governments throughout history. Prophecy often functions in this way in the Hebrew Bible 1.

Thanks so much… I do believe you are responding for the majority here.

But except for that the few references in John about the “spirit of the anti-Christ” there is nothing in the Scriptures that speaks to such a literal figure. It is all smoke and more created by the Jesuits (RCC) in the 16th century. No scriptural support whatsoever. However, it certainly has taken a life of its own during the past 400 years.

But the little horn of Daniel 7,8 9 and 11 is definitely the papacy. He is the one that come out of pagan Rome right behind the 1o horns. As pagan Rome declines, the little horn will rise to o the top of the 4th beast kingdom which will become papal Rome. And he will continue until the end of time when he is destroyed without human hands  (God).

Hello,

[2Th 2:3 ] 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for [it will not come] unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

So as you stated the actual TERM anti Christ is only mentioned a few times, but as with JESUS he is referenced by several titles and names throughout scripture.  the above passage indicates that he will be a PERSON as do other references.

Rev 13, again calls the a/c  a "HE" giving him a personification, not just an ethereal  spirit of the times....

Rev 13 also states, his number is THAT OF A MAN...

THE BATTLE RAGES TIL THE LION ROARS!!
