The following is gleaned from a sermon I heard a number of years ago which elaborated upon the damage and destruction that sin produces in the lives of sinners. I neglected to note who the Preacher was and cannot recall, anonymous, he shall remain. How sin effects the affected and the falling back into bondage;

Separates the sinner from God. Isaiah 59: 1,2

Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save,
or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;
but your iniquities have made a separation
between you and your God,

Blocks prayer. Isaiah 1:15, Proverbs 28:9

When you spread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
your hands are full of blood.

If one turns away his ear from hearing the law,
even his prayer is an abomination.

Is disobedience. Acts 5:32, Psalm 51:11

And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

Takes away peace. Isaiah 51:20

Your sons have fainted;
they lie at the head of every street
like an antelope in a net;
they are full of the wrath of the LORD,
the rebuke of your God.

Leads to ignorance of God's truth. Proverbs 4:19

The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know over what they stumble.

Produces madness. (Observe the current times). Ecclesiastes 9:3

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that the same event happens to all. Also, the hearts of the children of man are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

Shortens life. Proverbs 10:27, Romans 6:23

The fear of the LORD prolongs life,
but the years of the wicked will be short.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Produces death. Ezekiel 18:4,20

Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.

The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son.

FYI @D. Adrien Some threads are better suited to the Bible Study subforum. If there is no discussion being raised I move threads there and ask members who repeatedly post what are essentially studies in the General Discussion Forum to desist.

Not a sin, but a discrepancy. :thank_you:

And yet;

The Lord...visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation. (Exodus 34:6-7  Deuteronomy 5:8-10)

“Because of their iniquity, and also because of the iniquities of their fathers they shall rot away like them.” (Leviticus 26:39)

Seems the statement might require  some qualifiers, some context in order to hold true.

A household often suffers the sins of the head of that household does it not?( A household of three and even four generations living under it.) So; could be a timeline  of generations  or a common physical location at one time that are affected.

I was under the impression that one had to be a Preacher to post new threads in the bible study page.

Perhaps the difference deals with a person's understanding of the law?

I try to stick to the written word and let those more qualified parse the meaning.

Oh I think it is a matter of context for each isolated verse and passage. That is one reason I dislike even having division of God's word into verses, for it hinders seeing the flow of the fuller context.

That would be the Study Group subforum you are thinking of, which only those on the Oversight Team can start threads in. Anyone with access to the main site can then post in such threads.

However, see the highlighted subforum in the snip below which all unrestricted members can post their study threads in.

 Hello Neighbor, I have found for myself  that practicing Christianity and leaving the doctrinal stuff to others provides me with the most peace. Context is nearly everything though, as to not get drawn into obscure and wrongheaded thinking.

Thank you Michael!

You're welcome. The Oversight Team are for guidance in the first instance, then correction, and lastly disciplining when necessary.

Your thread here has raised discussion on sin so no need to move it, and actual Bible Studies do attract replies without leading to lengthy debates and speculations.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
