Here is the change in the law, here is what was done away with, the priesthood and the sacrifices. There is now no need for sacrifices, and thus no need for a priesthood.

Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for under it the people received the law (Notice what law it is talking about, that which was received under the Levitical Priesthood, not the Ten Commandments), what further need [was there] that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Dennis is telling us there is a distinction being made by the author of Hebrews

We should keep God's law because we want to out of appreciation to Him, and as a recognition that He is Lord, but certain ceremonial laws of the Jews were done away with in the new covenant.

Act 15:5-11 But some of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed stood up, saying, "It is necessary to circumcise them and to direct them to observe the Law of Moses." The apostles and the elders came together to look into this matter. After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe. "And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. "Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? "But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are."

The Holy Spirit gave them the answer to what ceremonial laws were still comanded

Act 15:28-31 "For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials: that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell." So when they were sent away, they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. When they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement.

There were only four ceremonial laws necessary in the New Covenant, and the Sabbath is not one of them

Col 2:16-17 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- things which are a {mere} shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

And, of course, no fires burning in one's home on the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath! Very cold at night. And, too, when one flies across the International Date Line on the weekend, one would lose the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath altogether! Oh, oh, death!

The 19th-century whims & vagaries of one, SDA-founder Ellen Gould Harmon White, are too tragicomic to observe without the help of a respirator.

I also would like to ask a question.

Is the Sabbath something that we observe, or is it something that we enter into?

Interesting that 6 days have a night and day, except the seventh day or Sabbath day which seems to be eternal. it really mentions no day or night like the other days. It also appears to be the only day that God blessed and sanctified.

So is this day something that we enter into or simply observe once a week?

Seems like a play with words but I'll say both. :24: the bible called the sabbath a holy convocation...I figure that means we have to assemble together and worship. :24:

The Sabbath is a part of the Law and so to deal with the Law is a part of the Sabbath question. No issues stand alone, but are related. You see there is another prophecy about a change in the Laws of God:

Dan 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth (history tells us as well as Daniel, who the fourth world kingdom was, Rome) which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. (Holy Roman Empire)

7:24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom [are] ten kings [that] shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

7:25 And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

7:26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy [it] unto the end.

Paul refers to this prophecy in Thessalonians:

2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him (the 2nd coming is our gathering together in Him),2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God (including the law of God), or that is worshipped (the Holy Sabbath of God); so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (I am the substitute of Christ on earth)

2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way.

You see, as the law to love your neighbor does not do away with the commandment that says 'thou shalt not murder', thus the commandment to love God does not do away with the 4th commandment, cease from all work in order to be instructed in righteousness and worship a Holy God on His Holy Sabbath day. You see on the Sabbath that Jesus created and made Holy, God ceased from all His works, which were Holy, Spiritual works in order to commune with God. We don't cease from those works until the 1000 year Sabatical rest with Jesus when He comes back. This is why Paul tells us:

Heb 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].

4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4:4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. (God's works were Spiritual works)

4:5 And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into my rest.

4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest (Sabbath) to the people of God.

4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God [did] from his.

4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

You see, the Christian, who has ceased from his own works of the flesh, now labors in the Spirit to enter in to the 1000 year Sabbath rest with Jesus when He comes. He labors to be among that church 'without spot or wrinkle or any such thing'. In the 1000 year Sabbath there is no more labor. Sin has been overcome, the believer has 'grown into the full stature of Christ, there is no gospel to be preached, no sinners to convert and now the believer has the 24/7 rest and worship that the Sabbath forshadowed. This is one of the main problems with the 'Lukewarm' church, they want to rest now instead of labor to enter in.

God bless,

Dennis

No, you do not "labor" to enter into the Millenium or 1000 year rest. Only those who have put their faith in Christ will enter. We do not labor to enter into Christ, thus we do not "labor" to enter into the Millenium. Salvation is not by works, but faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross. If you are working to ensure or to maintain your salvation, then you are not obeying the gospel. Salvation is not labored for.

The above remarks demonstrate that you are working for your salvation and are trusting in your Sabbath as a "labor" to enter that which can only be entered by faith in Christ and Christ alone.

Brother Shiloh,

You conveniently left out the Scripture that I quoted where Paul says that we are to labor to enter in. Your argument is with God and the Scriptures and not me. Do you think that God has done away with all the Scriptures that talk about the war between the flesh and the Spirit? Do you You think God has done away with all the warning Scriptures that speak about completing the course, fighting the fight and claiming the prize. Are you a believer in a robotic cruise control joy ride into heaven? if so you must ignore most of Scripture. The fact that we are justified, forgiven, by faith born out of repentance does not negate the works of faith which are not forced upon us, but that each must choose to do. There are no works required to be forgiven, just repentance and faith, but real faith 'labors abundantly'. Faith can be renounced, it can die, it can be denied, it is up to the free will of the believer.

Now that one has been born again, recreated in the Image of God, He has a war to wage with the flesh. There is no guarantee that he will complete the course. Each believer still has a free will to use and choose to walk either after the flesh or after the Spirit. At the new birth he is a babe in Christ. He is to grow into the full stature of Christ. This he must choose to do each day by abiding in Christ and obeying the word. All the grace is available, but it remains up to him/her whether they will indure to the end or not. There is more to Scripture than just 'by grace you are saved through faith and not of works lest any man should boast'.

Peter says it well:

1Pet 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1:3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.

Again Peter says:

2Pet 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (all we need to grow into Godliness, the fulness of Christ has been given, yet we are the ones that choose to avail ourselves of the power and cleanses ourselves as Paul says we are to do.)

1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (our choice)

1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence (this means that the believer puts for all his effort to do the following), add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make [you that ye shall] neither [be] barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. (He that doesn't put forth all his effort to do these things is blind and has forgotten that He was justified and forgiven)

1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Here again Shiloh I have quoted the Scriptures. I have taught children and they were able to understand what these Scriptures mean. You see this is saving faith. This is what saving faith does. This is proof that one in leaning on the power of Christ to do these things because no one can do these things on their own.

You see the "lukewarm" church is resting on their lees waiting for God to 'light their fire' and God is waiting for them to receive the 'baptism of fire' and get up and be 'more than conquerors through Christ who strengthens them'. You see it is a matter of faith. Most don't believe that they have the power to do anything more than they did before they uttered the 'sinners prayer'. I council you to read Hebrews 11 and 12 for an example of true saving faith.

Your argument is not with me for I have only quoted the Scriptures and pointed out some of the things that are overlooked today. I would suggest that you argue with the Holy Spirit who inspired Peter and the rest to write the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit never contradicts Himself. If we don't understand what is being said, it is because we are not listen to the Holy Spirit.

God bless you my brother,

Dennis

To understand the laboring you describe, the context of the passage. The witer of Hebres says this in 4:11:

Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall through following the same example of disobedience.

Hebrews 4:11 NASB

The example of disobedience is actually defined in Hebrews 3 (which gives the reason for their falure to enter rest):

And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.

Hebrews 3:19 NASB

Those who sinned in the wilderness did not remain outside of the land because of their sinful acts. Those were symptoms of a larger issue: unbelief. Obedience is an outgrowth of true belief. If we don't have saving belief, we can labor all we want. We will still not enter in. The determining factor is belief.

This is really an unfair way of aguing. It does not really prove anything. One could just as well argue that the reason you had no problem convincing children is because they are gullible. It is really an irrelevant appeal akin to the statement "everyone believes this"
