If you wouldn't take spray paint and go to the Temple in Jerusalem and graffiti it, why would make marks on your body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit? I hate tattoos and faith-based ones seem even more vile to me because it's a slap in the face to God to take His temple, mar it, but claim you're doing it for Him. I have rather strong feelings about this one and would probably offend others, so . . . to put succinctly, I view this topic negatively and that's how I will conclude my post.

I, unfortunately, have a tattoo that is 38 years old. I see it, and refer to it, as an old scar... From my years before Christ.

I also know people who have riddled their bodies with tattoos that they claim reflect their "faith." I find this to be superficial, and that this faction of believers choose to decorate their bodies rather than openly live a life that portrays the meanings of their tattoos...

But, when I was a young Christian, (two years after the tattoo), I had a nightmare that I was afraid I wouldn't be allowed into heaven with it... In my dream my friend told me to "look again." The tattoo flaked off before I went to heaven.

It's not the best choice to make, but as long as it isn't the mark of the beast, it won't be a part of your eternity.

This may be true in some cases.

A better way to put it is that people with tattoos are more likely to be diagnosed with mental health issues. Behind the pride I see a compensation for feelings of inadequacy. Good candidates for the love of Jesus and spiritual healing. My attraction toward them is more out of compassion than admiration.

@Indentured Servant You are indeed right that the best form of testimony is a consistent walk before the Lord and others and the cultivation by the grace of God of inward and spiritual qualities which are consistent with Christ revealed through the Word.

As regards getting tattooed, it used to be predominantly a male thing among sailors and the military and bikers.

Now GodsGrace's observation is likely quite accurate:

.............

almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

Even the most conservative of young ppl do seem to find their way as clients into a tattoo parlor; sometimes for something that reflects faith-based conviction, widely thought to be an age-appropriate way of expressing it.

Guilty, as charged... I was a sailor, and associated with a bikers club, hahaha. The biker group was a stronger influence than being a sailor regarding the tattoo.

Hi @Indentured Servant Well now it's gone a long way beyond bikers and military as a seemingly established custom. FYI, these quotes from the Bible Belt:

Most of them are biblical (crosses between the shoulder blades are the most common ones) getting tattoos when your old enough is pretty much expected in the family.

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

The interesting part of all that, to me anyway, is that more than twenty years ago, a technology was created that merged cellular signals with tattoos that vibrated as an alert to incoming calls, texts, etc.

That technology can conceivably track anyone with a tattoo, which can hold all their personal data, etc

@LaurenMay PS: You've talked about your mom a bit; presumably she would have given you impressions about tattoo designs; though maybe any she may have are not faith based...

Hi @NConly

I say if a tat is painful that person has lived a shelter life..I think once a person gets a compliment on their tat they get a good feeling about having done what they thought about maybe quite a while..

This is I guess why a tattoo on turning 18 is regarded as a coming of age thing; proves if nothing else that the person is willing to endure just a bit of pain, right?

Christian young ppl often plan for a Bible verse/ faith-based one.....

I have not spoken to many on why they get or got a tat.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
