The words of the Lord answer your question:

My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. (John 10:27-28 NASB)

I listen to the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I follow Him. I know His voice, and He knows me. You?

Due to the obedience to God

Revelation 1:19 (KJV)

[19] Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

I believe by this Scripture John wrote:
things which thou hast seen     - The Gospel of John
the things which are                  - The first 4 chapters of Revelation
things which shall be hereafter - The rest of Revelation 4-22

The writing came closely together thus all contain a 90ish date of writing... The Gospel was preserved perfectly by the power of The Holy Spirit as John wrote it nearly 60 years after the events He witnessed...

John 14:26 (KJV)

[26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

This is a foundation for comment on the verse you are justifying from God that all should or could hear from God audibly

The immediate context of this is the Jews and Pharisees had earlier heard He being The Good Sheperd discourse now have come to the temple of the feast of dedication and the Jews demanding He speak clearly of Him being the messiah...

The whole grammatical flow of the passage is the immediate now of then .... thus, He is referencing those who actually heard Jesus, in flesh, vocal words at that time... there absolutely no passage support that He is referencing all sheep of all time...

In fact: The OT pattern at the time of and since Moses God spoke to prophets and they in turn wrote down God's Words to them... even suggested same coming into into the NT

Hebrews 1:1-2 (KJV)

(1) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

[2] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

And this was written down by John like suggested above by God's inspiration Jn 14:26

You are taking your ideas of literal audio to the ears and foisting them upon the Scripture which is eisegesis not exegesis...  which is improper hermeneutic to arrive at thus sayeth The Lord...

There are different ways to hear the Lord's voice. It isn't remotely unscriptural in the least.

To hear the sweet sound of the Lord's voice in our daily life, we need to look for and follow the Spirit-produced inclinations. Following these inclinations will issue in the sense of life and peace within. Under the new covenant, His speaking does not normally come to us as an audible voice. It comes in the line of a verse, in the words of a song, in fellowship with another member of the Body, in a message we heard from the Word, or in the growing burden we feel in our hearts. As we open ourselves to live out of the source of the Spirit (Rom. 8:4-5), we will increasingly be made aware of our heart's inclinations (Rom. 8:6). It is in those inclinations that we will find the Lord's voice for our daily life.

A big amen to this, though I'll add one thing to it. Something I've learned to be wary of is when situations arise where fleshly desires would seem to align with God's desires. It may seem to be weird at first thought, but does happen sometimes.

The most clean cut and obvious example I can think of is our relationships with unbelievers, especially when they take a turn for the romantic or involve family. We know God wants all to be saved, and we should long for others to be saved as well. The thing is the amount of personal involvement can really lead to a lot of mistakes and unproductive or counterproductive heartache. It really pays to self examine and seek the guidance of fellow believers who are mature and discerning, because when a high level of personal involvement is involved it can be one of the hardest things to discern our own will from God's and to know when to step back or step away.

A great example.

It helps that my family disowned me decades ago, so that's one less distraction in life. Just as well, I have no family of my own and I know that it will remain that way. I don't pine for nor yearn for such a thing; I pour myself into the work that Christ places in front of me to do.

With regard to hearing the Lord, that's what He deals with: the work I was created for. When I'm not working, I rest and enjoy the fruit of my labors.

When the Scripture is boiled down to opinion- the Scriptures can no longer lead but opinion of man does! This is really what happens when the work of study/contextualizing is ignored and is intuitions or feelings, that of flesh takes over...

The proper hermeneutic is 1. grammar=what is it exactly saying to the rules of written formation. 2. contextualization - who, what, where, when, why, how. 3. derived application. 4. brought forward to present applied...

It is with very much common sense to do so as God chose writing... and grammar applies to all language ... then context is most of common sense for the example: say I write down of 10 pieces of paper 'come over and sit on my lap baby' and pass it out to 10 different people. Asking what they think it means. With our sexually charged world the probability would be high some connotation to that influence. But when the proper hermeneutic is applied they learn it is a father speaking to his daughter across the room!

Do the work and you have the highest chance of understanding what the written passage is conveying as thus sayeth The Lord... it is an obedience to God

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

[15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

[16] But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

[17] And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

[18] Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

[19] Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

[20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

[21] If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)

[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Just in case you have any doubt in the leading of Scripture this way God speaks directly to the fact here

John 17:17 (KJV)

[17] Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
