Excellent thread, excellent posting from everyone who has contributed. A truly WORTHY conversation!!!!

I would add here, (in my tendencies to always spiritualize everything  ) that in the Bible the word 'burden' tends to symbolize sin. For a man to carry a burden on the Sabbath could symbolize carrying his sin into the Holy Sabbath rest. When a person gives their burden of sin over to the Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus Christ, He can truly give them rest.

When Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath, what He really did was take the burden of sin away from Him that he had been carrying, and the healing of is legs was an outward sign of this. Carrying his little mat was nothing compared to the burden of sin he had been carrying. Thus in this way Jesus fulfilled the law as well.

I never thought of it that way...very interesting way to see it. That makes sense.

I'm not personallly offended by Ellen White's writings. I savor the parts I like and ignore what does't fit. She's never denied the diety of Jesus Christ.

I have read a book of hers called "The Desire Of Ages" (almost all of it) and my thoughts were man this lady really has a great insight and a real love for the Lord. I was really moved by this book.

Well any way one day a brother told me I was treading on dangerous ground and went on to explain who she is and what she teaches. I have since went on the internet and researched who she was (I had no idea at the time) and have since not picked up the book. For fear that maybe something was being ingrafted into my subconscience that could be dangerous to my walk that I did not see.

But to be perfectly honest, I didnt consciencly see anything wrong with the book. it appeared to me that she lifted up the Lord Jesus but maybe I was blinded by her articulate style of writting. but I still dont see it. I dont know much about 7th dayers except they worship on Saturday (of which I am not convinced is wrong and Sunday is right) and are pretty liberal in thier prophecies.

Anyone else read this book?

God Bless

Satan attacks every Christian who's a threat...he doesn't mess with the ones who're do-nothings ...Satan will slander anyone who's doing the work of the Lord.

I'm not terribly fond of SDA, particularly their assault on Sunday worship. There's much bigger issues and concerns right now than which day to worship...We will face a major apostacy, according to scriptures.

I don't think which day of the week people worship is a major issue but some people will be so easily distracted by such things ...straining at a knat and swallow the camel itself.

As for Ellen White...I love her and say, "to each his own". I'll continue to read and enjoy it...regardless. I have an entire documentary about the SDA and it's roots and date-setting and all. Ho-hum. I figure every denomination has something wrong with it. When we all get to heaven, we'll get the whole picture.

What troubles me is when the very core essentials of the faith are being challenged...

People will get up in arms over which day to worship - strain at knats but swallow the camel.

To me the really big deal is when someone says, "I'm a believer" but slander Christianity as if it were the enemy instead of who we are...(usually a red flag, IMO), engage in "Jew" bashing and introduce very New Agey ideologies such as multiple ways to enter into the Kingdom of heaven.

I think the biggest problem is when people are distracted by peripheral issues and miss the big picture or they focus on relatively minor doctrinal disputes but when faced with major heresy, they completely miss the boat.

Someone once said that people are more likely to believe a "big lie" than a small one.

Blindseeker,

You keep insisting that the point was Jesus was the "Sabbath rest" when really the point was He was God. Therefore nothing could touch Him or defile Him. As God He alone is the Giver of rest.

Matthew 11:28 - Come unto Me all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.

Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath because He is Lord of heaven and earth.

Also . . . why do people keep referring to the Law as the "Jewish Law?" Did they originate it? Did not the Law exist long before ever a Jew was?

Agreed, the point is that He is God. It is not my conviction that the Sabbath was changed at all. Since God created time, the 24 hour day has nothing to do with Him. That is why the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath--indicating that it was made and not always existant. As I have stated earlier creation days 1-6 end in "So the evening and the morning were the sixth day." But the 7th is not ending this way, but blessed and sanctified, showing me that the world was intended to remain in that state of rest. Then, the fall, then chaos, the human race is at emnity with God and in no hope until Jesus came to restore that relationship with God.

Why do I/we refer to it as Jewish law?

Deut. 5:2,3 "The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those of us who are alive." Then in verse 6 are listed the 10 commandments

It wasn't done away with, it was fulfilled.

Jesusisgod:

It has been pretty much determined that EGW plagerized the Desire of Ages and didn't even write it. I can get you some documents on that if you are interested.

Yod and One Accord,

Fine about spiritualizing the burden, but what say you about the Numbers passage that I posted where the man simply was gathering kindling on the Sabbath and the Lord ordered him stoned to death? The story is there for a reason, everything in the Bible ties in together. I believe God wanted to show the severity of breaking the law and then I believe Jesus intentionally told the lame man to take up his bed and walk to show to all that could see that His purpose in coming was to fulfill the law and become our intercessor. He fullfilled every aspect, such as baptism to fulfill the cleansing laws, Holy SPirit decending on Him to fulfill the annointing of the High Priest. Cephais the High Priest at Jesus' death tore his clothes, which in the law it is stated if the High Priest tears his clothes he loses his priesthood. The scapegoat...Jesus became him, the veil rending in two. It's all there.

Cats, wolves don't come in wolves' skins.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
