OK, I don't know which forum this is best posted in.

I figured this one might actually get the better responses.

I was watching some of The History Channel's series on the Roman Empire.

In there was mentioned something that pricked my ears.

To help fund the building of the Colloseum, the Emporer used the captured articles from the Jewish Temple. :emot-heartbeat:

It just struck me hard, knowing what the Colloseum was used for - from pagan revelry to Christian martyrdom.

It broke my heart that the items made to worship the Lord ended up being used to fund such a horror and defemation.

Does this strike anyone in any way?

That is heartbreaking, isn't it? I would have like to have seen that. I am not surprised, to be truthful.

Yeah....Emperor Vespasian completed the Colosseum using lootings from Herod's Temple. He didn't live to see the completion of the Colosseum.

it reminds me of the part in the Bible when the Jews were in babylon and the writing on the wall appeared and according to Daniels prophecy the king was dead that very night for defiling the things of the temple.

I wonder how long it took for vespasian to die?

This of it this way, both Vespasian and Titus (his son) engaged the Jews in battle in 66AD, which lead to the burning of the temple, scattering of the Jews, etc. In 68 AD Nero died, his successor Galba was murdered, Otho, who did the mudering took over Galba's seat but shortly died in a battle against Vitellius. Four leaders in less than one year. When Vespaian took over the throne, he left his son Titus in charge of the war in Judea. His reign would actually be 9 years, but this is still short for any Emperor (70-79). Titus, the one responcible for burning the temple and completing the colloseum, only lasted two years.
