The Shewing away of Duane Brotherly

I just wanted to bring up the treatment of Duane by the members of this board. I thought it was shameful. Now this misguided young man has left and we no longer have the opportunity to plant seeds and show him errors in his interpretations. He was listening to us it just wasn't going to happen overnight. He needed to think through alot of scripture and all he needed was a little guidance and especially not people telling him how to think. That was the wrong approach especially when accompanied with insults. I think every one guilty of shameing Duane in the name of protecting the WORD should reread Jesus's 2nd Greatest Commandment for man to keep.

P.S. I would like to recommend to George and G-dman to consider a heresy folder. Instead of deleteing those posts. They should have been moved to a heresy folder with maybe a warning page as a gateway. This would have allowed continued discussion and would have provided significant separation from G-ds true Word. This would also provide a place for future Duanes to work out their thoughts on a board that has the ability and knowledge to correct these errors if done with patience and kindness. Just my thoughts.

But I will say, there's been a rash of violent sorts through these parts of late, and I can't explain it. Hence I've been retreating to friendlier topics or to my own forums.

I tried to post this a few minutes ago, but here it is again. Some BB's have a section where non-Christians, or 'other' can post. They aren't allowed to post in the other areas. Christians can talk with them in that area, and anyone reading can tell that it's not in the normal Christian area and may have odd or incorrect doctrine.

If you have kept up on my other threads that were deleted you should see a trend concerning men and angels. Do you, or do you too think I am way off base?

And I have a question that I am not sure you can answer but...

These two translations differ slightly, and I was wondering if you have access to the original Greek to compare them to. I just came upon this today, so right now I am in the dark.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

RSV

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

One translates the word as rebellion, the other as falling away.

Any ideas as to the more correct translation?

I have an interlinear at home, and will check it tonight if you can not do it sooner.

The difference could be very important, as well as informative, in light of these threads I have posted.

I also looked at it in my interlinear, and the literal says "falling away" like the KJV.

Looks like I will not be posting any more. I am tired of being called names, insulted, and having my threads deleted in the middle of a discussion.

I do not see how I can explain anything if I am not given the time to do so.

Anyway, I want to say thanks for being one of the only ones not to insult my intelligence.

WeLL cool you have a right to your opinion but i thought duane was treated rather kindly--i didnot see any of the name calling or insults----i also have an opinion as to whether or not a newly arrived poster ought to be trying to correct or call anyones actions as shameful....yeah you really need to try reading some other aspects of GOD'S word LIKE --BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS!!!!!---- WHAT that boy was posting was ERROR!!!!!! I find myself agreeing with coolwaters. Running him off seems like an extreme way to deal with someone who was so obviously searching. It's sort of like throwing someone out of your church, which is extreme.

I also agree that it would be very nice if there was a forum for newbies or nonChristians (if they confess to it) to start in and then maybe graduate to an advanced forum after so many posts. That would help filter some of this trouble out.

I also think that some of the responses were very harsh. When I was first learning I had to be corrected about a few things, and I probably still do, but when some corrected me harshly, and believe me it happened more than once around here, I was pretty shocked by the Christian love I was being shown. It just didn't fit my image of meek, gentle, humble, mild-mannered at all. I've had to learn to accept that Christians can get very aggressive in defending their point, and do rather quickly resort to name-calling. Lord forgive us.
