I was recently impacted by a newsletter put out by David Wilkerson. He spoke about how we impact the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives by what comes out of our mouthes.

I'm really intrigued at how much power the tongue really has.

***This is just a "study". I'm learning so much from it and thought I'd share what I'm learning with anyone who's interested.

I've highlighted everything concerning the "mouth" and what it does.

Mt 12:34 Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

Mt 13:35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: I will open My mouth in parables; I will declare things kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Mt 15:11 It's not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, that defiles a man."

Mt 15:18 But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a man.

Lu 1:64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God.

Lu 4:22 They were all speaking well of Him and were amazed by the gracious words that came from His mouth, yet they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?"

Lu 6:45 A good man produces good out of the good storeroom of his heart, and an evil man produces evil out of the evil storeroom. For his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

Lu 9:39 Often a spirit seizes him; suddenly he shrieks, and it throws him into convulsions until he foams at the mouth; wounding him, it hardly ever leaves him.

Lu 22:71 "Why do we need any more testimony," they said, "since we've heard it ourselves from His mouth?"

Ac 1:16 "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke in advance about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.

Ac 3:18 But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets--that His Messiah would suffer--He has fulfilled in this way.

Ac 3:21 Heaven must welcome Him until the times of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about by the mouth of His holy prophets from the beginning.

Ac 4:25 You said through the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of our father David Your servant: Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot futile things?

These are just a few verses which speak of the power of the mouth.

This is what I've been able to put together so far in studying this concept.

I've never really done much of a "topic" study before - usually a Chapter study or verse study but this would be a topical study.

Jesus exposes that the outward appearance of a man is not to be judged but that God judges the heart, which is revealed by what comes out of a man's mouth.

Mt 12:34 Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

Lu 6:45 A good man produces good out of the good storeroom of his heart, and an evil man produces evil out of the evil storeroom. For his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

John 7:24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That the first thing that came from a mute man's mouth was praises to God.

Lu 1:64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They tell us that God gave his Holy Spirit to David in the verse Acts 1:16, where it's written that God spoke through King David.

Ac 1:16 "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke in advance about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.

Ac 4:25 You said through the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of our father David Your servant: Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot futile things?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It tells of how God communicated to the prophets of old, (including David) from the very beginning.

Cats;

I can't tell you how wonderful it is to read that. It falls in line with a study on SIMPLE Faith that I am doing also. The Lord tells us that it is NOT the outward actions that He is concerned about, but it is the inward state of our heart, for out of THAT will our actions be taken. He called the Pharesees a white washed tomb. What a graphic picture of people ACTING clean and actually are full of the stench of death! What do our insides smell like? Is the river of life flowing through it or is the stench of death resident there?

Look at how important the state of our heart is to our Lord;

Matthew 5:21-22

"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell."

Matthew 5:27-28

"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.'But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Matthew 5:31-32

"It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery."

Matthew 5:33-37

"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

Matthew 5:38-42

"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

Matthew 5:43-45

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven."

You can see how well our Lord spelled out the simplicity of His message and the importance of our heart instead of our appearance!

Wonderful!

By His Blood;

Jesus told us that whatsoever we SAY believing, will be given to us by the Father in heaven. And WHATSOEVER does not exempt ANYTHING. So that the final effect of our own murmuring and complaining is that we each have defiled ourselves, because God gave us what we said in belief

Cats and Sagz :t2::D:t2: :il:

Cats: What a wonderful post Sister absolutely dripping with Wisdom :t2: Yes you can tell so much about the inside person by what flows out of the oral outlet.

Sagz: The Words of our Messiah Jesus are awesome arn't they :D They pack so much punch and are so clear as well. Many try their best to intellectualize away their meanings in an attempt to justify their rebellion against them. But the power of His words are in their simplicity :il:

May all who read them accept them in meekness so that they can truly make Jesus their Lord of Lords, their King of Kings.

Our Redeemer also said:

John 6:63

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

So my Brothers and Sister Read them and accept them for in doing this you will have life :t2: Eternal life :D

Thx, Adstar! :a: Gee, I thought I was on a pretty unpopular topic.

We weren't told to be silent but to speak...however the words we utter can be for good or for evil.

That is so very true Cats!

The tongue is our instrument of righteousness, or evil!! This is a very imortant, and all-together overlooked part of the human body. Look at what the Psalms have to say about it. (I will not post every verse, just some of them. There are about 35 instances of Tongue in the Psalms).

Psalm 34:11-15

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

Psalm10:7

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

Psalm 51:14

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness,O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness

Psalm 52:2

Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

Psalm 52:4

Thou lovest all devouring words,O thou deceitful tongue.

Psalm 71:24

My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

Psalm 119:172

My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.

Psalm 120:2

Deliver my soul,O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

Wow!! What a contrast! Glory to God for the ability to control such a wicked beast!

Whenever I feel anger I do my best to shut my mouth and wait for anger to subside, because I know that whatever comes out of my mouth when I'm angry will not be fruitful to the Lord.

Its a good policy, when your angry shut up :x:

Dear Cat's,

Yes this is a very good post and study - we all need to come before God and ask Him to examine our hearts to see what is there likewise King David:

Psa 26:2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

If our hearts be right before God our speech also will follow.

Psa 90:8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

Even as the children of God we have at some time or another hidden secrets. The toungue surely is a problem even for the elect.

One problem I can think of is gossiping, now some like to call it - 'sharing' but I would think that if someone has shared something with us that is personal to them, is it then right that we 'share' that with someone else? I think not -

All the scriptures in this tread have and are a blessing Amen! and as we read them I think it would be wise for us to come to God in prayer and ask Him to examine our hearts and show us if there be anything there that needs repenting of.

Satan is very subtle and will often whisper to us that it is just 'sharing' or you just have to tell this other person so they can 'pray' hmmmm...let us be very careful.

Just my observation and things that I have learnt in my own life.

Great thread though Cat's :t2: very needed I think.

In Christ

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
