What do you believe Jesus meant when He said "the first will be last and the last will be first."?

and which book is this scripture in? I've read it but cannot remember where.

Hello sister,

Luke 13:23-30

And one said to Him, Lord, are the ones being saved few? And He said to them,

Strive to enter in at the narrow gate. For I say to you, many will seek to enter in and shall not be able.

And once the Master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us, and He shall answer and say to you, I do not know you; from where are you;

then you shall begin to say, We ate and drank in Your presence, and You have taught in our streets.

But He shall say, I tell you, I do not know you; from where you are. Depart from Me, all workers of unrighteousness!

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you will see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves being thrust out.

And they will come from the east and the west, and from the north and the south, and will recline in the kingdom of God.

And behold, there are last ones which will be first, and there are first ones which will be last.

Blessings to you

I think it is an earlier reference of what we are told in 1 Thessalonians.

1Thessalonians 4:16,17

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Is it at all possible that Christ is talking about Revelations? The saints appear to be with God in Heaven in ch7 beginning in verse 9 and then again in ch 8:3...is it at all possible that this is meaning the Chruch (Gentiles if you will) who were last and the Israelites who were first? After all we do see that the 144,000 of the 12 tribes have the seals placed on their foreheads and the wraths that fall to the earth are not to kill them and they remain until the 2nd coming..

Is it at all possible that this is the meaning?

I just posted a link on all this for you in the "Rapture" thread you posted in.

I believe that before the 7th seal is opened we are Raptured.

Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

Rev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

These articles are very enlightening, get back to me when you're done reading them.

hi, This is my first post here. I was searching the internet for John the Beloved the last supper, and the first link was to Worthy Boards. I was following up on the DVC movie about the LS picture by Leonardo and wondered how John the apostle could've been mistaken for Mary Magdalene.

This passage in Matthew 20 gives another perspective of the last first, and the first last:

Matthew 20:20-28 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

......

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

John

Thank you CC...and so it is..but what does it mean?

OOh Ohh me me :emot-highfive: ....I know......................................................................... It means....that humility is inevitable......those that put them selves first...shall be humbled.....and those that were cast away, of men, for thier sins....shall see thier "extra" burden lifted...that "extra" burden to be answered and accounted for...by those who place it on thier backs........................there is therefore no condemnation in christ.......the one man beat on his chest and said....god I am unworthy.....while the other that sat across from him said....thankyou god that I am not like this man over there.....and jesus said to them...which of these shall first see god....and they replied he that humbled himselm.......amen.....and so the last shall be first, and the first shall be last...and god will use the foolish, to confound the wise.

I like it and just as is said about God in Hebrews 4:12 for the word of God is living and active. sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul an dspirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thought and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

And I believe that just as God's word is living and active and can separate the way spoken of, it is also true about the scripture (because it IS God's word) that there is the obvious to man and there is the spiritual that man does not always equate into the scripture. He has a double meaning for everything yet it ALL ties together. :P

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
