You certainly are not alone in your belief as many feel that way..My dad thought it was evil..

But when people tell me they think it is such as you say, or my dad..

well, I think of the story where Jesus healed the blind man and people came and asked him about it

He told them "I once was blind but now I see.."

And please ...I said I once was blind but now I see..."

Whether or not you personally have this experience is between you and God...

Just as it is with me and God....

"Not all ..." have that gift...you have what God has gifted you with... :)

I do have the gift of speaking in tongues.

I must tell you the first time it happened I was in high school. It really scared me I had no idea what was up. I had convenced myself that this was a very bad thing and that I was being possed by evil. Then one day my mom and I where talking about gifts of the spirit and she told me about an old man she knew thru her greatgrandpops church (her grandpop was a pastor). Seems this man had this gift of tongues. She said he would show off his gift to everyone and that it really scared most people. It can be rather disturbing. She went on to tell me that it is a very special gift to be used in convesation with our Lord. She said I should never use this gift in front of others unless it can be translated. That my gift can be a huge distration to people whom believe that this gift should be shared by everyone. I do not believe that God has stoped passing out this gift I just believe that these people are really given the gift of intersectionalry prayor and they need to use it in Gods name.Which is something I am working on. Its not a sideshow trick. I cant tell you how many people are lead to believe that this gift given by God, is given to everyone that is like saying everyone whom is a believer should have brown eyes. God gives gifts according to his will not ours. I do believe that a person can speak in tongues or do any thing God gifts them to do. You may from time to time be blessed with an added gift almost like a seconday thing in order to reach Gods goal. Praise God that he gives us what we need. :emot-hug:

Do you speak in tongues?

If not, do you want to?

I speak in tongues as well. While praying one night , and I should mention, my whole world was falling apart at that time, I started praying outloud in a lanuage I have never heard before. And I had NEVER even heard about the gift of tongues. However, I found out years later...that I was speaking in Aramaic !!! And I now know what I was saying...........I was asking for PEACE & COMFORT.....talk about a shock ! And the peace & comfort came :D

Before I start, I just want to say that I mean no offense. But... I ask myself what good it did for God to make you pray for peace and comfort in Aramaic? And it took years to find out wh at it was that you said? What good did that do? I would like to think God has reason for what he does. Why wouldn't he just let you speak in English and then give you peace and comfort?

Just wondering.

Julia, If you are comfortable sharing then How did God reveal this to you..

That's pretty cool... :emot-crying:

I have a sister in law who as a child was praising God one day and began speaking in tongues but did not know until she was an adult what it was she was doing..

She just knew it was her praise and worship and to the Lord.. :th_frusty:

Mark..

have you considered that if God can cause a jackass to speak... He could cause us to speak ..

For whatever His reason was...perhaps it was to show her how incredible He is ..

That is what it sounds like to me..

I have been given words from the Lord I received 30 years ago that I remember like they were yesterday..

When God speaks sometimes those words are etched in or minds forever..

Tah,

I believe God can do anything He puts his mind to doing. If God gives prayer languages and such - I would expect it to be in Scripture, though. I asked earlier for a Scriptural presentation. I am still open to one if there is anyone who can give it. For instance, in Acts, there is a description of the tongues given on the day of Pentecost. It was the speaking of the mysteries of God where every one heard the Apostles words in their own language. Where is it explained, in Scripture, about prayer languages? I mean a clear passage(s).

The example given above about speaking in Aramaic is a little different. I still cannot see why God would do such a thing? Were there other people around that spoke Aramaic? Why would God give conformation about peace and comfort years after it was given. It seems confusing.

1Co 14:5

1Co 14:6

1Co 14:18

1Co 14:21

1Co 14:22

1Co 14:23

and there are about 8 more scripture with the word tongues in it..

any good Bible program on your compute has them all...

and the why of Julie's experience is between her and God...

Perhaps she will feel free to share part of it with us..her decision..

and He has His purpose when He speaks whether we understand it or not..

I have asked the same question when I have seen things that didn't make sense.. :24:

I just trust God knows the whys of it all...

Have you ever had the experience of the lord speaking to you to do something and it did not make sense at the time but you did it anyway and found out why later?

or the other times when you didn't do it and found out why?..

Same thing...

I am not going to understand everything God does in my life ..

Let alone my someone else's life..But I do have faith in Him for all of us..

God has all our answers we just need to get before Him for them..and wait to hear..

Tah,

Thanks, I will look at them. I am not the kind of person that wants to argue or debate endlessly about things. I like to "go to the well" so to speak and hear it from the source. Even though, I have never had such anexperience with any version of tongues - and I have not seen it in Scripture - I am still willing to consider and pray about it. So, thanks.

And if Julie feels like it maybe she can answer my questions.

Mark

BTW: Tah, I will get back to you as questions arise.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
