if you have only read the NT, and think that that is all you need to read, you are wrong, read, or re-read the OT, you'll find, and i truly hope you belive that both God and the Bible are refered to as perfect, along with Jesus. it doesn't bother you at all that during the time you were typing your last reply it didn't occur to you that at least God would have been refered to as perfect, or has the Mystery of Iniquity (Thessolonian) crept upon you to a point that even the thought that God is perfect gets clouded from your mind upon heated discussion.....

crabs><>

Crabs, before you accuse me of claiming somewhere that God is not perfect, prove it first. For I never said that. Your accusations are not justified.

The problem is that you are confusing the COMPILATION of the book "The Bible" with the "WORD OF GOD". Be clarified that the Bible is a physical book where the WORD OF GOD is written. It is not THE WORD OF GOD itself. THE WORD OF GOD is JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, who is God Himself. We cannot say that the bible is Jesus Christ but we can say that the Word of God is Jesus Christ. So stop mixing up the two... don't make a cocktail drink out of it.

For clarification sake, the Word of God, Jesus Christ, is perfect but the compilation of the book "the Bible" is not. Why? simply because the compilation of this book was made in the 4th Century by the Council of Nicea under the Roman Catholic Church. Furthermore, there are still manuscripts/materials or documents of Scriptures hidden by this institution which are not revealed yet or perhaps will never be revealed anymore. And now you want to call this "the perfect"? I won't!

I rather declare JESUS CHRIST as the ONLY PERFECT one, not the compilation of a book or any books.

Saints,

There has been much debate over the years as to the meaning of the perfect by gifted theologians. If there was a definitive answer to this there would be no disagreement. Lets not resort to making accusations over a grey area.

Thanks, the moderation team

Thanks, EricH, for the reminder. IMO, a definitive answer can be reached if two different opinions become one by the unitiing work of the Holy Spirit and by God's living Word.

It just amazes me if someone says the bible is "the perfect". On the other thread, one cannot even settle the issue "which bible is right". If there is a bible that is perfect, which bible then?

If one cannot even find the answer which bible is right, how can anyone expect finding the answer which bible is perfect. :24:

Therefore it is easier to say that GOD alone IS PERFECT, isn't it? :noidea:

I was saved in a Pentecostal church and the way it was explained to me was speaking in tongues is more for your prayer closet, prophesying in tongues is for the edification of the church and an interper must always be present. I go to a Wesleyan church now and I speak in tonuges under my breath during corprate worship (and prayer) because I know it would offend some, and may cause division (as their doctrine doesn't really deal with the issue of tongues). :24:

Maybe what is being confused here is my meaning of tongues, I take it as, a way to communicate, from God to us. This has ceased, I understand that some of you feel compelled for whatever reason to pray in tongues, you can do that if you want, but it isn

tah,

just so i understand, what do you see tongues used for in these days

your exapmles can be all your opinion of course, if you want, but backing it up with scripture would help open the mind a little, for me...

i'm not trying to be difficult, its just that if you can prove to me through scripture that tongues are still in use today, or any of the gifts for that matter, i'll drop it.........

Hey,

It's an issue I've thought about alot for various reasons. In answer to relevance today: (This is just what I have concluded through prayer and bible reading - I don't claim these to be perfect answers - I've interpreted both wrongly before now!)

Prayer for myself in private - If I'm tempeted by somethign I find it useful to pray in tounges to edify myself to try and resit - it's a sort of positive action and Im aware that I'm entering into God's presence.

Prayer in Worship - Praising God, sometimes I can't express my desire or delight at God, but I know that I'm expressing it through tounges. It gives me a form of expression.

Prayer in Intercession - I enjoy prayer ministry - and do prayer ministry at my church - people often come for prayer for one thing - but also want prayer for something else. I will pray for what they want, but I pray for them in tougnes to let God 'pray' for them - a possible interpretation of being led by the spirit to pray for others. Often this leads to interpretation in the area I'm praying for and I can pray for that in English.

As a side note, the bible verse about tounges that has stuck out most strongley for me in 1 Cor 13:1:

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. (NIV)

As in tounges is good & it is a useful tool - but it requires the emotion behind it. I've prayed for people int ounges and started thinking about other stuff - and God just hightled to me that this has no effect. You need the love/compassion for them - tounges is a way of expressing that beyond what human words can and leading you to the correct prayer - expecially when you don't know what to pray. eg. When I'm tempted & down I don't know what to pray - I mostly just want to give in, but at somwehere the desire not to give in, causes me to speak in tounges - and give me something to pray? Does that all make sense some how?

God Bless,

Jonathan

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
