Humbling your self before the cross in repentance and asking Christ to forgive you of your sins and come into your life and fill you with His holy spirit, is not a tradition. It's a requirement for the salvation for your soul. IMO. Even pagans follow some sort of tradition. Like washing their hands before eating

The indefectible Church:

The task is to determine what constitutes authentic tradition. How can we know which traditions are apostolic and which are merely human? The answer is the same as how we know which scriptures are apostolic and which are merely human

Tradition you say. The Bible clearly spells out that Peter was married but according to the Catholic church, all priests are to be single. Reconcile that one since Peter was obviously married!

Michael333 asks,

And that brings up another point. How do you know what constitutes the New Testament canon? How do you know for certain that these 27 books here in the New Testament are in fact inspired and should be in the New Testament? And how do you know for certain that maybe some inspired books haven

You are absolutely correct when you say Peter was married, BUT you confuse or are unaware of the teachings of the church.

Attacks on priestly celibacy come in a number of different forms

HI Michael,

It might be helpful is you would state your Theory #2 in a sentence or two. It seems that you defended "it" but never actually state what "it" is.

:emot-hug:

Thanks,

F

:)

Theory #2: Divine revelation is transmitted in two ways: through Scripture and apostolic tradition.

The Catholic Church bases her teaching upon one source: The word of God. This divine revelation is transmitted in two ways: through Scripture and apostolic tradition. Many assume that only the writings of the apostles are the word of God. However, their oral transmission of the faith is also considered the word of God (1 Thess. 2:13). Few Protestant groups today accept the validity, let alone the authority, of tradition. In fact, many believe that Scripture is the only definitive source of divine truth. For this reason, they are critical of certain doctrines of the Catholic Church, which, according to them, have no basis in Scripture. In fact, those who embrace the theory of sola scriptura attempt to use the Bible to contradict, to prove baseless, certain Church teachings, such as the Real Presence and the existence of purgatory. However, these teachings are reflected in Scripture.
