Still, it's just like abortion. The Republicans DO NOT want these issues resolved in their favor; they want to keep forcing the Demoncrats to come out in support of abortion and gay marriage, so that the Christian community stays firmly in the Republican camp.

Don't you conservatives repubs feel a little used on this issue? I mean, for 5 years the Prez has done nothing but make promises or simply bring the issue up around election time. We all knew it wasn't going to pass so isn't it just a ploy? Don't you feel like you're being manipulated for political gain?

Here is how I see it. If Kerry or Gore were President, these issues would not be brought to the forefront at all, so even if the motives are wrong, I take what I can get. In addition, no I don't feel I am being manipulated for political gain. I feel like the people we elected are under pressure to come through for us and actually do what they said. They are feeling the heat of an election year which is what a free society is all about. I don't blame anyone for the failure of the amendment's passage but the 48 Senators that voted against it and those that didn't vote at all. Once it came before the Senate for a vote the opportunity was there for our elected officials to do the right thing.

I disagree with Leonard on the abortion issue. If Roe vs Wade is overturned, it helps the GOP solidify it's base in an even greater way. At that point, the issue goes back to the elected officials where it belongs and they would have real power to place restrictions on the practice. That would be a boost to Republicans when it comes to pro-life voters turning out, especially in the Bible belt.

As an Anglican ArchBishop said recenty, he's convinced from his studying God's word that this kind of licentious behavior has individual eternal costs, as well as the national negatives that are usually mentioned in public debate.

It's not about political advantage. Rather, it's about God-given, time-honored values; and avoiding the nationwide legal and moral mess (with accompanying individual and national consequences) we are setting in motion by trying to selfishly gain personal promotion within our faith or society.

-Without referancing the bible, can you support your opinions on homosexuals/homosexual behavior?

I really don't mean to rock the boat here (I lied, I do actually), but I've met too many people who merely tell me that 'the bible says so'- and nothing else. I'm hoping some you can help me understand this, nonetheless valid, viewpoint.
