Will Niv Nasb eventually do us in?

I came across this yesterday, while looking into the KJV vs NIV dispute on many websites,Thought it was interesting and wanted to share it here.

A SERMON FROM THE FUTURE

December 8th, 2047

The following is a copy of the sermon from the pastor at the

New International Church of Anytown, USA.

"Good morning. I sure do love hearing the choir sing those traditional Christmas songs. 'Silent night, quiet night. All is calm, all is bright. Round young woman, mother and child, Infant baby so tender and mild'. Those old songs just make me feel so spiritual.

"Take your NIV and turn to John 1:14. "The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

Let us chant.

(Followed by a brief catholic-style prayer which never mentions Jesus by name)

"Church, I'm here to tell you how wonderful the One and Only is. Our church has been very blessed. We have grown very quickly. We are seeing hundreds saved every week. That's because we preach the good news of the One and Only. In the days of old, preachers would try to scare folks with horror stories about a place they called 'hell'. I tell you, that's why church membership in the late 20th century fell to an all-time low. People didn't want to hear about that kind of stuff. Church, those poor folks back then didn't know what they were talking about. I did a computer search of my NIV, and I couldn't find the word 'hell' anywhere. Church, the term they used as hell, really meant eternal death, not a physical place. R. Laird Harris, a great man and follower of the One and Only, he was also editor of the first NIV Bible, is quoted as saying "Hell may stand for eternal death. It refers to death, not to any punishment." When they created the NIV translation, people were so scared of hell, they had to replace it with different words. [Note: it was replaced in the majority of the places, over 100 of them. There are a few places where it is left though. Obviously, the "preacher" lied about his computer search. Please see The New International PerVersion for correct information.]

"Back in what I like to call the 'Dark ages' of the One and Only's church, there were many different denominations, that spent more time engaged in arguments about their relegious beliefs, than actually worshiping the One and Only.

"Thankfully, the NIV and other modern translations came along and gradually changed the wording of the Bible to conform to all relegions. Now, we no longer have Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Seventh-day Adventists, Episcopalians, Mormons, etc. We just have the New International Church. Now you still have a few cults that refuse to join our one world church.

"You have Jehovah's Witnesses, and a group that calls themself 'baptist' who only read out of the archaic King James Bible. That Bible is the single most damaging threat to the One and Only. That Bible is responsible for many of the mis-conceptions that our older generation has today. That Bible taught about hell being a real and physical place of torment, (the congregation laughs) it taught that Mary was a virgin when she conceived, (more laughter) it taught that once you are saved, you stayed saved, even if you later sinned. (the congregation shakes their heads side-to-side) Also, if you read the King James carefully, you would find that it condemns homosexuality as a sin. (more head shaking) My NIV clearly says I Corinthians 6:9 'homosexual OFFENDERS'. Simply being a homosexual isn't a sin. A sinfull lifestyle whether homosexual or heterosexual is a sin. Church, if we still followed the archaic King James Bible, a homosexual like myself could never preach the word of the One and Only.

"The most damaging thing taught in the King James Bible was that they made it real hard to be saved. They had some crazy idea that you had to actually believe with all your heart that Jesus was the son of the One and Only, which they called 'God'. As I close, take your NIV and turn to Acts 8:36. "As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?" And he gave orders to stop the chariot, then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him." My NIV says nothing about believing. It simply says you must be baptized. Please stand.

"When the music plays, please come up to the alter. If you're not saved, we will sprinkle you with the saving water of the One and Only, and you will be saved."

END OF SERMON

At this service, hundreds were "saved" because this new generation had the teachings of the NIV and other modern translations, and weren't "held back" by the archaic teachings of the King James Bible.

This generation is far too smart to use the Bible their grand-fathers used. Grandpa didn't know what he was talking about, and they could use their Bible to prove it.

lol Cats,

Yeah it seems as if all Ruckmanites/KJV-onlysists either have bad ADHD or just very poor reading/hearing skills.

hohummmm (I yawn)

Brother Van Vidrine,

What flavor of KJV-onlyists are you pray tell?

I was praying today in the back with another man on the prayer team. We were reading the passage our pastor was preaching on and he was reading from the King James Version. I followed along with my NASB. After my partner finished, I confided in him that I LOVED hearing the KJV read out loud. It makes so much sense and sounds soo wonderful to hear, that I prefer to HEAR that version read out loud.

"But," I told him, "I can't understand a word of it when I read it to myself." I have to read NKJV or NASB or NIV to be able to understand when I am by myself.

Now, I don't agree with the new NIV that came out that is non-gender. I don't know...there is something very wrong about not refering to the Lord as a He. I can't explain it.

But I refuse to believe that we all need KJV's to be able to get what the Lord is saying to us. I can't get behind that argument.

I prefer the KJV, but in no way agree with the KJVO's. There is a preacher that comes into where my husband works. He was wanting us to visit his church. Then, he gave hubby some literature, and it was KJVO material. They even said (if I remember correctly), that a person wasn't really saved, if they were using any version except a KJV. Husband told him that he didn't agree with that, and the preacher acted like he was on borderline angry...

LOL! Calam, it sounds like an Independent Baptist....they're militant about the KJV only.

What can you do? That's the bondage they're under.

These silly and contentious arguments won't steal my peace or my joy!

Praise be to GOD!!! He is my one and only...my joy and the finisher of my faith...let NO man judge me...I'm free in Christ Jesus. Praise to His name..Name above all names.

It is lack of knowledge that destroys us. Any bible that person actually reads is a good bible for that person. But there is no bible that just reading alone is sufficient. Prayer and study are required as well.

Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Yes, cats, he was Baptist, and probably Independent, or Independent Fund. Not sure. The thing is, we are too, or have been, but don't believe like he does, or like a lot of the others do about certain things. We're visiting in a S. Baptist right now.

I won't get involved in this discussion, even though I want to! :)

I read many different translations, including the NIV and NASB...I guess I had better pick back up my KJV so that I can go to heaven, huh? :)

I wonder which version of the KJV that people use? Why is it the 4th version of the KJV that people insist is 'inspired by God Himself'. I just wonder why God 'messed up' the other 3 times He 'wrote' the KJV Bible.

I am by no means AGAINST the KJV, but to assume that Satan is the author of any English Non-KJV is downright....well I had better tame my tongue here.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
