But in saying that you have muddied the issue. Discussing how we choose a candidate in an election is not the same as discussing how the war is being handled. One does not use "intel" to choose candidates. We choose candidates based upon whether or not we believe a certain candidate shares our views on certain issues.

you should also choose candidates based upon their effectiveness or potential effectiveness in office. i would pretty much always vote for a candidate whose platform differed somewhat from my own beliefs, but whom i believed would be most effective in changing things for the better and making a positive difference, over one who claimed my beliefs but was/would be useless in office.

Then how can your party make any ground?

Personally, I see what you are saying, but a part of me tends to want to pick the ones that I feel will stick to their guns. Then, hopefully, the voices will be heard and a movement for change can gain momentum. If we continually pick from the two main parties, nothing will ever change.

Had Ross Perot not been such an idiot, his new party could have made a difference and that's what I use to show that parties can gain significance from the grass roots.

Not that I agree with a lot of what he was pushing, but the example was given to show that a difference can be made by a few.

Actually, it's how our nation began, when you think about it.

I'm kind of a cross between Libertarian, Conservative, and the Constitutional Parties.

Liberconstiservative, I guess.

I support the Republican's efforts to do something about Mulim Terrorists, but they don't do much domestically. The WOT was many years coming, IMO.

Had Gore, or later- Kerry, been elected, things would have turned out much differently, I'm afraid, concerning our efforts to stop terrorism. There hasn't been a Dem worth his salt on defense since Kennedy. Johnson tried in Vietnam, but his heart wasn't in it after he saw that it might take a while.

Nixon went overboard and actually ran on a "end the war" platform, but expanded it greatly

Ford just tried to shut up long enough to get out of town with his sanity

Carter was a joke

Reagan gave us the model to follow

Bush had the idea, but was too preoccupied by building his NWO

Clinton was even more of a joke than Carter

And Bush seems to want to do it right, although he has much of his dad in him.

Perhaps I should run in '08?
