I'm going to throw a monkey wrench into this whole discussion. But please know that I do not believe the sinner's prayer to be un-Biblical. I think it's fine. But consider the following also:

The Bible does not prescribe a specific means of confession unto salvation. There are only two things a believer must do according to the Bible. One must believe into the Son, and one must confess with his mouth. The believing and confession go hand in hand. And the confession is not related to confessing one's sins. Take a look at Romans 10:9:

"That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

The confession here is not the confession mentioned in 1 John 1:9. The confession of sins in 1 John 1:9 is a confession of the regenerated believer. Now take a look at Romans 10:12-13:

"For there is no distiction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him;

For 'whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved'."

The simple formula, if you want to call it that, to be saved is just that you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth. I believe that if a person believes that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and simply opens his mouth and says "Jesus is Lord!" Or even if he just says "Jesus!" Then he is genuinly regenerated.

Now, as to confession of sins, this will some as a natural consequence of being regenerated. The Bible says that without the law there is no knowledge of sin (Rom. 3:20; 7:7). So for a person to have a genuine confession before God, God must come into that person's heart, imparting the law of the Spirit of life (Rom. 8:1) and writing the law on his heart and mind (Which is naturally part of becoming a believer - Heb. 8:10; 10:16).

There is no other name in the universe which a person can call and be saved. Even Jesus' name means salvation. Jesus is the Greek form of Joshuah, which means "salvation of Jehovah." Jesus is salvation. When you call the name, you get the person.

I think that we complicate things a bit too much. When preaching the Gospel and bring a peson to the Lord we want to make sure that we do it right. So we include all these things into the prayer to insure that a person gets "genuinely saved." Yet I think this is a kind of mistrust of the Lord's ability to regenerate a person. All a person must do is believe and call. The confession and consecration to the Lord come as natural consequences of being regenerated.

I go back to what Jesus preached.

Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Mark 6:7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

6:12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

In His Love,

Repentance is a matter of turning away from sin, and from the life of sin. Believing into the work of the cross of Christ is also an act of turning away from sin. A sinner can believe into Christ and have their sins washed away. That's the initial need of a sinner aside from having the life of God. remember that in the Old Testament a sacrifice had to be offered before their sins were covered. Also there were the two aspects of the Passover: The application of the blood and the eating of the lamb. The blood had to be applied before the passover lamb was eaten.

then brother i guess we could throw this scripture out.

if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus set us examples of this in the Lord's prayer

and on the cross.

and like that scripture says...if we confess our sins ,he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins

confess means lord i am a sinner ...

And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Luk 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Luk 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

Luk 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

if we cant take the Lord's word , whose word can we take?

God bless....Until the shout that takes us out, evang. dare

I think the confession referred to in this verse is an ongoing process as believers, not a one time confession unto salvation.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
