Latter Rain/MSOG heresies in our pews?

I have left a congregation (independent/non-denom/pentecostal bent) because elements of the Latter Rain and Manifested Sons of God (maybe Moral Government Theology) are infiltrating it.

The elements seem innocuous enough taken as activities of God's people unless you know the back story. God led me to the sources of information about these heresies.

Are you seeing, undertaking:

Harp and bowl (and sceptre) services

River Revival

the City Church

Boiler rooms (24/7 prayer)

The Unity

five-fold ministry

The new thing

?????

My interest in this is in combating the heresy. Taken individually, none of these seem like a problem as I said. We should pray, we should praise, we should come together as one...

I am hoping that some of you have some experience of this and can pray (knowingly) for me and perhaps assist me in what I can or should do.

Because of what I learned, I left my congregation but can a child of God leave others in darkness?

Never heard of any of those things! But if God has called you out of there, then you did right. It's one thing to know truth, and it's another thing to stay under the authority of those who are perpetuating lies. Yes, you come out from among them.

I believe that when you leave, you should tell those who are in authority exactly what you don't agree with. Not in a combative way, but in a clear, honest nonconfrontational loving way. They may take you seriously. However at the same time, if they think this is right, they probably will ignore them. And you can't stay and be led by them.

I'm really rusty on all these things though...what are they??

Generally, Latter Rain, MSOG and Moral Gvmnt are all about man becoming as gods and ruling and reigning on earth, having perfected the church and having "cleansed" the churh of unbelievers. It is all a power grab but a lot of people can be hurt by the power grabbers in the process. (BTW, YWAM was heavily into Moral Gvmnt at one time)

I believe that the congregation does not really understand that whereof they partake. There may be one person who is working to the the avowed ends of these heretical groups but not the congregation generally.

I was delivered by God from the occult. He kept me safe in that time but as a resilt of that time, I have to be careful of anything of satanic or demonic origin. I practically ran away from one harp and bowl service. Truly oppressive experience!

No, I meant those other things like boiler room and stuff like that. I have a thread of my own about Moral Government Theology cause it reared it's ugly head here on worthy...

Harp and bowl (and sceptre) services These services are based on Revelation and the harps of praise with bowls of prayers. (the sceptre of righteousness often gets left out of the title) The people come together once a month (or whatever) and sing, are taught a brief lesson that ties to the Revival and renewal in the city and then prayers are offered for the city. This has changed slightly as now incessant choruses are sung over and over and over and prayer is really downplayed or over-ridden by the worship/praise.

I should mention that I cannot (physically) sing so I am not as open to the mesmerizing effect of songs.

River Revival I know that a lot of River imagry is used. We have a 'river image' that is part of the identity of our city. (Well all of Niagara is water-imaged to the max) This comes up a lot and I think is tied to the "in the river" theology of the "blessings movements". It is also often used for the cleansing imagery

The City Church/The Unity The purpose here is to create an authoritarian system within a unified, single-entity church. someone gets to be in charge. there is no acknowledgement that the Body of Christ is already a unified (in Christ) entity.

Boiler rooms (24/7 prayer) This is basically a Works Theology system wherein the prayers of the people will cause the ascended masters - the guys who get to be in charge - to come into being more quickly - a bit of WOF comes into this part I think. God has to obey the rules here and cause this to happen.

Five-fold ministryThis is a teaching that in the last days, God will appoint: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. (Pastors and teachers are one thing but some people can't count) This teaching is designed to give authority to leaders so that they can bring in a fresh revelation for these times - they appoint themselves as Apostles with resulting Apostolic Authority. They need Prophets for New Revelations This is just a power grab.

The New Thing This is the age-old claim that is touted when someone wants to change the Word of God. It can get intense at times.

This is a very rough understanding from experience and study. I'm sure there are some here who could explain all this much better than I can.

This is useful to me in one way as I have been requested to attend a 'de-briefing' with the pastor - he is a Godly man who depends on the Holy Spirit to get him through each day. I acquit him of being complicit but I don't think he was aware of this stuff. neither was I a couple of weeks back...

I wonder why do so many people tend to believe that worship and praise is a bad thing? What is wrong with spending an hour in the Lord's presence just adoring Him?

As I have understood it, the river is symbolic of the presence of the Lord. "Jumping into the River" is about jumping into the Lord.

Likewise, the ministries I know of that speak of "the river" in this way are anything but swimming in dough (not meaning to pun there).

There is a difference between teachers and pastors and I would honestly think that would be evident. You don't have Sunday School "pastors" now do you? I agree that there is a problem when we start seeking "new revelations" above and beyond what the Bible says. However, I do believe the office of prophet is still valid today. We read in the NT of Agabus prophecying twice and the book of Revelation is prophecy as well as given to John. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever with no shadow of turning, so I'm stumped why some would think the office of prophet is no longer valid.

There is a difference between teachers and pastors and I would honestly think that would be evident. You don't have Sunday School "pastors" now do you?

Not all teachers are pastors but all pastors are teachers.

I agree that there is a problem when we start seeking "new revelations" above and beyond what the Bible says.
