At U.N., Chavez Calls Bush 'The Devil'

Sep 20 12:06 PM US/Eastern

By IAN JAMES

Associated Press Writer

UNITED NATIONS

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush "the devil."

"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said, referring to Bush's address Tuesday. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."

The leftist leader, who has joined Iran in opposing U.S. influence, accused Washington of "domination, exploitation and pillage of peoples of the world."

"We appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our head," he said.

He also said the U.N. "doesn't work" in its current system and is "antidemocratic." He called for reform, saying the U.S. government's "immoral veto" had allowed recent Israeli bombings of Lebanon to continue unabated for more than a month.

"Venezuela once again proposes today that we reform the United Nations," he said. He drew tentative giggles at times from the audience, but also some applause when called U.S. "imperialism" a menace.

Chavez lambasted Washington for trying to block Venezuela's campaign for a rotating seat on the U.N. Security Council. He said if chosen over U.S.-favorite Guatemala in a secret-ballot U.N. vote next month, Venezuela would be "the voice of the Third World."

The U.S. government warns that Chavez, a close ally of Iran, Syria and Cuba, would be a disruptive force on the council.

GOOD GRIEF!!!!

How I wish Bush would just step down (or be ousted) and let the VP or Rice finish out his term. This country would be so much better off.

His ratings are very high right now, why should he step down or be booted out?

I don't like every thing Bush does and I liked almost nothing Clinton stood for but I feel we are very weak to allow these 2 filthy rotten America hating dictators to come in and diss any president and have a forum to spew their puke. I have changed my mind about what Pat Robertson said about Chavez. I will NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CITCO AGAIN! What were we thinking!

Dictators eh, Chavez was elected in a democratic election, a much clearer victory than Bush 2000. Ahmadinejad was also elected albeit after having been deemed eligible to stand by a panel of Mullahs, the election itself was strongly contested. Anywat the point about the UN is that whilst within the USA it is neutral territory, open to all.

Clearly your not a big fan of free speech.

So, lets give ahmedinejad and chavez a platform to speak whatever they want about America, then let them leave and go back home to their country where if you so much as look at them wrong you will lose your eyes.

I don't mind letting them speak, it shows the world how crazy those two are and it just might sober us up.

I do think it is rediculous that any dictator that violates human rights, the foundation of our country, should be allowed to speak freely. Where is our country headed? In the last 2 weeks we have had 3 of the world's worst dictators speaking in our country. Who's next? Kim Jong Il, bin laden, saddam hussein?

America needs to wake up, these people are openly calling for our destruction and genocide. Why are they even allowed to enter our country? Do you think Bush could speak badly about Chavez in Venezuela? Ahmed in Iran? Or call for the destruction of their country?

Well, because he is one of biggest threats to the security of our country for starters.

Funny thing? People said the same of Abraham Lincoln who won reelection by a narrow margin. Grant was holding his breath not sure if the Civil War would end short of victory or if he would be allowed to bring it to a proper conclusion. I for one feel safer that Bush is in offcie and am more concerned what will happen in a couple of years when we have a new administration. I hope they have the resolve and due dillegence to seek out and destrpy evil at the root.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
