Protestant Ministers who became Catholic--------->

http://www.religionnews.com/press02/PR062502.html

Not exactly. Here are a few quotes from the article. My comments are also below:

As an 'average American Catholic boy,' Jeff Cavins got caught up in many of the usual pitfalls of being a late 20th-century young Catholic. And though he knew it would hurt his family, one day he rebelled against it all. He packed up and left -- his home, the Catholic Church and his former life as he knew it. Along a 12-year, circuitous search for truth and the meaning of life, Cavins became a Protestant, and then a Protestant pastor. Life was good for a number of years, but he couldn't find what he was ultimately seeking... real truth.

First, the article does not state the age of this person, and how long he was a Catholic before leaving the RCC. Second, it toook him 12 years of basically what I would call agnosticism before finally becoming a Protestant. It does not mention which Protestant denom he was a pastor of. Perhaps this was not a strong evangelical denom. It seems like this guy wasted many years of his life searching for truth without satisfaction from anything, so he simply returned to the faith he formerly knew - the one that made him feel comfortable.

Cavins' story is dramatic, and conversion stories like his are becoming a common occurrence. In the last decade, there has been a large influx of former Protestant laypeople -- even Protestant ministers -- who have become Catholic, according to Marcus Grodi, founder and president of the Coming Home Network (CHN), a ministry which assists Protestant clergy looking to enter the Catholic Church.

Note: "According to Marcus Grodi, founder and president of the Coming Home Network..." Seems like his opinion may be a little bit bias here. For one thing, this is free advertisement for him, so why would he not say that there has been a large influx? For another, there have been polls taken since the priest scandal broke that show that the RCC has seen a 30-40% decline in membership. So where are all these droves of people fleeing to the RCC from Protestantism? Seems funny that an article which claims that there has been such a large influx of converts would not give us any kind of figures.

In fact, the article is more or less really about former Catholics returning to the RCC, not about born Protestants converting to Catholicism.

Agreed.

I hope you didn't have to RE-post that. I've been away and just skimmed through what I'd missed over the last week.

Yes, people are leaving the Catholic church in droves these day. How long can one hold onto such an outdated religion when it obviously has so many problems. I only hope they don't get totally dissolutioned and turn to athiesim because of what they've seen.

I believe that some have. When you are taught from a very young age that the RCC is the one true church, then you find out later that it isn't and leave, where do you go? Having been disillusioned, where do you turn? More importantly, where are the believers to catch these people when they fall?

It has taken me many years of studying, wondering, asking, debating, praying, but now I want nothing to do with the RCC! It is a hard thing to come to a realization that what you have been taught all your life is false! :b:

I have just started attending a Baptist Church, and what a wonderful church it is, the atmosphere ELATES me and makes me want to come back to worship!

There are many God fearing Catholic people out there, who are caught in a religion that the more you study it the less you understand!!

I have no quarrels with Catholic parishioners, but the Vatican...well that's another story!!! :x:

Tyler:

You went from rc to baptist, while Angeledei thinks she has the truth because she went from baptist to RC.

However, she REALLY went from Rc to baptist to RC. It's no big surprise that if you get dissolutioned in your current church, you'll return to the church of your childhood.

In the church of your childhood, there is no dissolutionment. Only child-like faith. (Although I don't know how one can ignore the Inquisition, fallable man-made laws that need to change with times, the widespread sexual abuse and many other problems, but oh well).

I know what your saying artsylady!

The church itself was not the problem for me...doctrine, doctrine, doctrine is what it is all about(mostly)! A scripturally based Church where the literal interpretation of the Bible was taught, was what I was looking for! I would still attend a mass now and then if needed, but as for buying into the RCC ideology... it'll NEVER HAPPEN, not at this stage of the game! :b:

Did Angeledei say why she left the Baptist church? Pressure from friends and family can have a dramatic effect on a person!

The Pope kissing the Koran, drove the final nail into the coffin for me...Was that an eye opener!!

Those who are earnestly seeking the truth will find it, those who seek glory from men will be fooled!! :o There are those that revere the RCC more than they care about finding out the truth... May God open their eyes!!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
