For years i have watched as various denominations and "TV evangelists" and the Catholic church have been hit with these scandals. The one thing that comes to mind for me, all these men called of God, have clay feet and sin just like the rest of us do.

I find no joy in anyone, much less a preacher, having immorality problems. However, i find less joy in gloating over these things. Perhaps, it might be appropriate to expose our own sin in such a manner. This would certainly give one pause for gloating.

Last, i do not disagree that false doctrine and so forth should go wihout being addressed. This is not a matter of false doctrine. More of a matter of do as i say rather than do as i do.

I'm getting a kick out of this. Not so long ago this same line of thinking was being stated about the Catholic Church, Look at all the scandals, see how this proves that the Catholic Church is corrupt. Now when this was going on how many Pentecostals stood up for the Catholic Church? Now "they" are going after the Pentecostals. I wonder if anyone will stand up for the Pentecostals, and tell them they are being ridiculous. Ok OK I will. You are being ridiculous! Now who should we go after next, Hmmmmm how about the Baptist, they are always good targets.

Waite a minute, aren't we supposed to be the body of Christ.

God Bless us, we need it,

Kansas Dad

I hope my sarcasm was dripping off of the page. all but the last sentence!

How can you get a kick out of something tragic like this? Do you realize how many lives with be ripped apart by this scandal? The man has 5 kids for goodness sakes. We aren't supposed to rejoice when our "enemies" (as they are apparently perceived) get their "due". The appropriate response is to ache over the consequences of sin...especially for those who are completely innocent, and to pray that those who are guilty will repent and be restored to God.

If there is anything more repulsive than someone claiming the name of Christ while subsequently destroying His name by their lifestyle, it's someone claiming the name of Christ who relishes in the consequences of others. We would all do well to remember that our own sins are just as vile as the sin this man is accused of. If anyone is getting a "kick" it should be in the pants for responding in such a flippant, careless way to an event that will likely devastate many many lives.

That is why I wrote the last sentence. I don't get a kick out of this at all. Sorry, sarcasm doesn't always convey in print.

I was trying to state the absurd to illustrate exactly the point you made.

God Bless,

You cannot even begin to compare the scandals of the RCC with this. In the first place, neither Haggard nor his church covered up this episode, as the RCC did for years all the way up to and including the present pope. The entire RCC heirachy knew of the pedifile priest's abuse, covered it up, and simply moved the involved priests to another parish, and allowed it to continue. And there are still people coming forward to this very day accusing catholic priests who have since fled the country, to avoid being prosecuted. Number 2, Haggard, according to his personal confession, did not engage in homosexual sex with Jones {or a child.}

I think this entire episode is nothing but a smear campaign being used by the left and the homosexual agenda to advance their cause concerning the marriage amendment, of which Haggard has taken a stand against homosexual marriage, and to smear President Bush. The left is notorious for that. When they can't find fault, they make it up. Yes, he is guilty of buying meth, by his own admission, but that is all, and it is nothing like the RCC child/priest scandal, which was and is world wide.

My Web Blog

I wasn't comparing this scandal to the scandals with in the Catholic Church, I was comparing the attitude of the posters, and the hypocrisy of dishing it out in one post and being offended when it comes full circle. You didn't get the whole point of my post. When Christians start tearing down other Christians and denominational bashing, satan smiles.

God Bless,

K.D.

The fact in this case is that Rev. Haggard is NOT a Charismatic. His church would better be described as one of those mushy 'seeker sensitive' places!

You are correct that a disproportionate number of these cases involve Charismatic churches. The reason for that is that they are ALSO "independent" churches; unaffiliated with a denominational structure. In short, they are a 'one man show' and the Pastor has virtually unlimited power and authority to do WHATEVER HE WANTS: He owns the building, he owns the corporation, and there is no denominational headship to put him in check in any way.

If you want to check the figures out thoroughly you will probably find that 'independent churches' of any theological stripe, have a disproportional number of this sort of problem............

It is fine that the pastor owns the building and creates a corporation out of it. You obviously don't understand the negative implications of being a traditional 501(3)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
