Thanks Ted.
Just introducing myself. I'm on the hunt for a place where believers and nonbelievers can come together openly and respectfully and (hopefully) learn from each other.

Have I found it? :whistling:

It appears I have found my answer. :emot-nod:
:whistling:

Welcome!

Be Blessed

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

Numbers 6:24-27

Love, Joe

Hello roselady:

I think it is a common misconception that atheists lack morals, or lack a sufficient foundation on which to base their morals. "Without absolute law, how can you know right from wrong?"

It is my testimony that belief in God is not required for me to lead a moral life. I make an effort to be loving and kind to others, and I am raising my children to think for themselves and to be loving and kind as well. What more does one need as a moral foundation?

In an atheist's worldview, there is no right and wrong nor is any action preferable to any other. According to atheists, we are just by-products of the universe's processes. One life form may not like something that another life form does, but according to that worldview, it cannot say that it is wrong, because there is no absolute standard. Therefore, how could an atheist even believe in absolute right and wrong?

The fact is that a sense of right and wrong comes from being made in God's image, and you have to go back to the knowledge of God that God Himself has given you in order to even use words such as "right" and "wrong".

I'm not sure if I can agree with statements that say that there is no right or wrong with atheists. Before I accepted Jesus into my life, I had a pretty good idea of right and wrong. I lived well enough, and didn't think that we were simply free to do whatever we wanted because I thought God did not exist.

It was still just as wrong to murder someone, cheat on your wife, rob and steal, rape, etc. All of those things were still just as wrong in my book as they are today.

I do concede that since accepting Christ into my life, I have a better understanding of why certain things are wrong. Before that, I knew that wrong was wrong, but couldn't really point to the origin of why they were wrong. Know what I mean?

To say that atheists simply do not have a value system, or that most of them live lives devoid of a sense of right and wrong is just plain, well.....wrong.

right and wrong, or morals are a survival tool, all animals have them, for example a deer will not use its antlers to kill another deer, it will only but antlers with other bucks in a mating contest that will not cause significant harm to either buck except in accidents. however when attacked by another species the deer rams its horn in the side of the attacker the most vulnerable part of most animals. because a deer killing a bear will not make survival harder for the deer species. but a deer killing a deer does

a species that helps each other, survives better and thus will pass on more genes more easily. There are species however where "morals" as defined by humans are not prevelent for example there are several species of bat where male bats who can not attract a female mate will rape one, one species has even developed a special claw designed soley for this purpose.

having said that, our society also defines morals, we are taught what is wrong and right based upon the predominant culture where we live, for example in america stoning a girl to death for sex outside of marriage seems barbaric, in the middle east it is law and normal.

Have you had a chance to view the formal debate between apothanein kerdos and ask an atheist? It's located in the Soapbox Debate thread just below apologetics. They delve into issues like this in a way I thought was pretty interesting.

Very well said. I don't believe in religions but i have a very strong moral code. AV1611 has a very one-sided view of athiests i think.

"And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."

Matthew 21:44

but i have a very strong moral code

:)

Faith

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10

Faithless

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Jeremiah 17:9

:)

Now

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:8-10

Later

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Romans 14:11

:)

Grace

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:18

Graceless

But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
Proverbs 8:36

:)

There Are No Neutrals In Spiritual Warfare

He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
Matthew 12:30

Moral Codes Do Not Substitute For The Blood

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 1:7

Moral Codes Do Not Make Stone Into Flesh

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
